La Tour-de-Peilz, and Le Locle Switzerland - Horse steak on the menu and a 400 year old cave mill
In the spring of 2023 Duke and I took an eight and a half week trip. We started in Morocco and ended in the Czech Republic. In this video we are traveling with our friends Rick and Elaine from Chamonix, France to Le Locle, Switzerland.
In La Tour-de-Peilz on Lake Geneva (Lac Léman) we stayed at Hôtel Bon Ravage. The next mornings we watched rowers from our window.
From La Tour-de-Peilz we drove to Le Locle where we stayed at Guesthouse Le Locle. We had drinks at Café Marché and dinner at Au Moka. Au Moka had horse steak on the menu.
We went for a drive in the countryside around Le Locle and stopped for coffee at Champ du Moulin in Areuse Gorge. Then we went to the Farmers and Crafts Museum in La Chaux de Fonds. I was able to try lace making. The last thing we did near Le Locle was visit the underground mill and factory at Col des Roches. We got to go down in the caves and see the restored mill. For dinner we went to Crêperie Le Lion d'Or and had galettes.

In this video, we start in Le Locle on a line completed in 1860, connecting Neuchâtel with France via La Chaux-de-Fonds, however in La Chaux-de-Fonds, we will deviate onto the line to Biel, which was completed in 1874. Normally the line to Le Locle is served by trains from Neuchâtel, but due to construction work, the trains from Biel were operating all the way to Le Locle.

Before the opening of the Grenchenberg line in 1915, that we've looked at previously (link: • ★ 4K ????????Tilt train Biel - Moutier - De... ), the part of the line between Biel and Sonceboz-Sombeval served as the international connection between Biel - Moutier - Delémont - Delle - Belfort. Afterwards, it was downgraded to a branch line.
Enjoy the scenery as we descend close to 600 metres on our journey through the Jura mountains from the French border to the city of Biel. We will change from Summer to winter in La Chaux-de-Fonds.

La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland
La Chaux-de-Fonds is a city in western part of Switzerland. The city has a population of 37.000. The elevation is about 1.000 m. La Chaux-de-Fonds is an important city of the watch-making industry. A part of the city was destroyed by a fire in the year 1794. It was rebuilt following a grid street plan.
La Chaux-de-Fonds has a UNESCO World heritage status.
The famous architect Le Corbusier and the carmaker Chevrolet were born in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
Don’t miss Place de l‘Hôtel-de-Ville in the old town.
There are many modern buildings like the Espacité Tower along Avenue Léopold Robert.

La Chaux-de-Fonds is a Swiss city of the district of La Chaux-de-Fonds in the canton of Neuchâtel. It is located in the Jura mountains at an altitude of 1000 m, a few kilometres south of the French border. After Geneva and Lausanne, it is the third largest city located completely in the Romandie, the French-speaking part of the country, with a population (as of December 2013) of 38,699
The city was founded in 1656. Its growth and prosperity is mainly bound up with the watch making industry. It is the most important centre of the watch making industry in the area known as the Watch Valley. Completely destroyed by a fire in 1794 La Chaux-de-Fonds was rebuilt following a grid street plan, which was and is still original among Swiss cities. Karl Marx said about the very special urban design of the city that it was a city-factory. The famous architect Le Corbusier, the writer Blaise Cendrars and the car maker Louis Chevrolet were born there. La Chaux-de-Fonds is a renowned centre of Art nouveau.
In 2009, La Chaux-de-Fonds and Le Locle, its sister city, have jointly been awarded UNESCO World Heritage status for their exceptional universal value.
