You NEED to Visit Puglia Italy ???????? The Next Amalfi Coast? Monopoli + Polignano a Mare (Travel Guide)

Travel to Puglia Italy. In this week's video we're visiting one of the less known regions of Italy, Puglia. Puglia is almost a secret in Italy, situated in the boot of Italy, it isn't as famous or as visited as some other regions of Italy.

We start the video in the town of Polignano a Mare. The town itself is very famous for a beach called Lama Monachile. We start off the video with a great view overlooking the beach and eventually make our way down to it to check out the pebble beach surrounding by dramatic cliffs.

We then head into the old town of Polignano a Mare and explore the small streets, squares and look off points. We stop at a restaurant called Il Grottino to try a local pasta dish called Orecchiette alla Pugliese.

We then make our way to the train station and take a 5 minute ride to the town we're staying, Monopoli.

In Monopoli we stop for a delicious Cafe freddo at Iridium Café.

We then take you on a tour of our apartment rental. Book it here:

Lastly we take a walk around the old town of Monopoli, stopping at the beach just outside the old walls and walking around the walled city.

We end the video from our room on a ferry going to our next country!

THIS IS THE OLDEST CITY IN EUROPE!

We knew a 7000BC city like Matera would be a nice city and it's on a lot of 'Hidden Gems of Europe' and 'Hidden gems of Italy' lists. But WOAH! we didn't expect to be amazed at every turn!
This might be Italy's best kept secret.

These steep winding streets lined with some of the oldest dwellings in Basilicata and the world are just beautiful. Its like a different city in the morning sunlit compared to the day time and then at night it's taken to a whole new level. Seriously, Matera at night is a must see.
Not bad for a place as old as 7000BC and THIS IS THE OLDEST CITY IN EUROPE!

Thanks for watching our Matera Vlog from Basilicata Italy

Castello di Melfi (Melfi) Basilicata - Italy????????/Potenza/4K/Maluphotography16/Cinematic/Aerial.Shots

We'll take you to beautiful Melfi and bring you a little closer to the Castello di Melfi and its treasures! But now to the facts:

The Castello di Melfi (Castle of Melfi) is one of the most important medieval fortresses in southern Italy. It is owned by the Italian State. Its foundation, as far as can be deduced from the extant remains, dates back to the Norman conquest of southern Italy. The castle has undergone considerable changes over time, most notably during the Angevin period and under the Aragonese crown.
During the reign of the Angevins and later also under the influence of the Renaissance, the castle underwent major changes. Today the National Archaeological Museum can be found in the rooms of the castle.

The whole building, founded directly on the rocky bank, clearly visible in the deposit on the second basement floor with a rocky outcrop, is characterized by a supporting structure made of local stones of medium and large dimensions, connected with cement mortar. Extensive consolidation measures carried out in recent years (2000s) following the damage caused by the 1980 earthquake have led to the use of concrete in the basement levels to support the structures above.

The floors of the exhibition rooms are all in terracotta, with the exception of the Sala Doria and the adjoining rooms, which have a marble gravel floor. The ceilings are coffered, vaulted or flat ceilings made of wood. The Sala Doria preserves an 18th-century boiserie with gilded details.

The museum exhibits a large collection of finds from the Vulture-Melfese area (Lavello, Banzi, Ruvo del Monte, Rionero, Ripacandida and the town of Melfi itself) relating to a chronological arc of the 7th century.

Of particular note are the numerous funerary objects, characterized for the most ancient phases by refined Daunian pottery with geometric decorations, bronze armour, shields, helmets and weapons, as well as the unique examples of floats from the Chiuchiari necropolis of Melfi; of precious ornaments made of silver, gold and amber and of vases and bronze tools of Greek and Etruscan production. Characteristic of the phase of the 4th-3rd century B.C. The ceramics of Magna Graecia with red figures and the monumental vases with polychrome decoration and with superimposed figures of Canosine production are mainly found in Lavello (the ancient Forentum).

On the ground floor, the Roman period is represented by the sarcophagus of Rapolla, an exceptional Roman-era sculptural work that identifies the entire municipality and is named after the place where it was found in 1856. The sarcophagus is a fine example of 2nd-century marble sculpture of Micro-Asiatic production. AD The lid depicts a sleeping female figure, while the case depicts various gods and heroes and the paraphrased story of the Trojan War.

Hiking Italy: Convento Di Cospiti - San Lazzaro on the Amalfi Coast

Join us as we hike the Amalfi Coast on a hazy sunny day. This hike is in San Lazzaro on the Amalfi Coast. The trailhead is surrounded by numerous Air BnBs and agriturismos to stop by for a drink and a meal if desired. The vista at Castello Lauritano is near the trail as well (shown at the end). The trail is lightly travelled, but that does mean it is somewhat overgrown in areas. The highlights were an overlook with a rusted out Fiat and teepee and the convent itself. Above the convent is another overlook with a wooden cross. There are a few steep parts on the hike where you should leash your dog if you are concerned. Water can only be found just prior to the start of the hike so make sure to hydrate and fill up because most of the trail is sunny.

Giovanni Boccaccio, Decameron, Seconda Giornata, Quarta Novella.

FORRE DI LAVELLO - Trekking fluviale a Cusano Mutri (BN)

A splendid excursion in the heart of the Matese Regional Park.
Along the course of the Titerno creek, on the provincial road that connects Cerreto Sannita to Cusano Mutri, it is possible to visit the Forre di Lavello, one of the most enchanting places in the Matese area. The Forre di Lavello are a real canyon carved by the erosive action of water on the limestone rock, over millions of years, in some parts of the Titerno. In some places, they reach a depth of thirty meters.
The pathway that runs along the creek, retraces an ancient mule track from the Samnite era. This road was an important communication route for all the inhabitants of the valley who went towards the mountain. Along this beautiful path, there are some deviations that lead to very suggestive places, such as caves and bridges and viewpoints, all of great beauty.

???????????????????????????????????? ???????? ???????????? ????????????????????????, ???????????????????????????????? ???????????? ???????????????????????????? ???????? ????????????????????????' ????????????, ????????????????????????????????, ???????????????????? ???????? ???????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????????? ???????????? ???????????????? (???????????????????????? ???????????? ???????????????????????????????? ???????????????? ????????????-????????????????, ???????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????????????? ???????? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????? ????????????). Another legend attributes the foundation to one Tusco, son of Hercules and Araxes.
Evidence of human presence in the area dates from the Neolithic age, but probably the city proper was founded in the 7th century BC when the acropolis on St. Peter's Hill was surrounded by a line of walls. In the 5th century AD (or earlier, depending on the source), Tuscania became one of the first bishopric sees in Italy.

There is no record of Tuscania being involved in the battles that led to the Roman conquest of the Etruscan northern Lazio (280 BC), as the city probably entered into the Roman orbit peacefully. The agricultural development and construction of the Via Clodia further boosted the economic situation of the city. It became a municipium in 88 BCE.

In the 5th century AD (or earlier, depending on the source), Tuscania became one of the first bishopric sees in Italy.

After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, it fell to the Lombards in 569 or 574. In 781 it became part of the Papal States. In 967–1066 it was a fief of the Anguillara family and then of the marquises of Tuscany. In 1081 it was besieged by Emperor Henry IV.
