Last week, I had a trip to one of the southernmost provinces in the Philippines, Tawi-Tawi. It was in deed a beautiful place. The people are friendly. It is a very peactful, contrary to the negative stigma of war and terrorism attached to the place.
I did climb (Mt.) Bud Bongao and enjoyed feeding the friendly monkeys along the trail. The summit rewards you with a magnificent view the ocean, Bongao town, and the neighboring islands.
I did roam around their town including the historical chinese pier where the Chinese traders visited the Philippines more than 500 years ago. Food was also amazing. Tawi tawi is rich in food that you haven't tasted before.
Unfortunately, I wasnt able to visit the neighboring islands of Bongao due to constraints of time. Ill promise to get to the other islands when I get back ti this beautiful Island.

Is It Safe to Travel to Tawi-Tawi? | A Beautiful Pearl in Sulu's Waterworld
Tawi Tawi, island, southwestern Sulu archipelago, Philippines, lying between the Celebes Sea (southeast) and the Sulu Sea (northwest). Tawi Tawi's westernmost tip is a scant 40 miles (64 km) east of Borneo.
The Sama are the original inhabitants of the Tawi-Tawi archipelago. The term sama is derived from the word sama-sama meaning togetherness. They are a cohesive and peace-loving people.
It is safe but like many unexplored places, it's not a travel destination where you can just take a spontaneous trip to one island. Ask help from the tourism office and follow their advice. This will make your trip in Tawi-Tawi safe and fun! Tawi-Tawi is a part of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
How to go to Tawi Tawi: Fly: Take direct flights from Manila to Zamboanga by Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific. Then from Zamboanga, take the direct flight to Tawi Tawi by Cebu Pacific. Alternatively, from Zamboanga, you can take the 18-hour ferry ride to Bongao
