Lane Cove Loop Trail | Lane Cove National Park | Hiking trails in Sydney, Australia

(Watch in HD) Don't forget to subscribe! ????
The Lane Cove Loop is a 10km circular hiking trail in beautiful Lane Cove National Park in Sydney, Australia. While the park is surrounded by Sydney's northern suburbs you would never know it! Once in the park, you'll feel like you've driven entirely out of the city. We started at the Macquarie Park entrance and took the Riverside Walk 5kms down Lane Cove River, crossed the Lane Cove River, then took the Lane Cove Valley trail (section of the Great North Walk) back up the other side.

The Riverside walk is quite a bit easier than the Lane Cove Valley trail although the Lane Cove Valley Track offers some nice views and opportunity to hike past and through some awesome rock formations. Along the way, we saw a ton of birds, including Kookaburras as well as a Swamp wallaby. Overall, a great 3-3.5 hour hike - enjoy the footage!

All Trailr trail reviews feature track highlights, what to watch out for and a review at the end covering track conditions, wayfinding, lookouts, flora & fauna, and fitness intensity.

Sydney suburb tour: Lane Cove

Recorded November 2021

In this video, we check out Lane Cove, a beautiful little suburb.

Lane Cove is a suburb on the Lower North Shore of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Lane Cove is nine kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district and is the administrative centre for the local government area of the Lane Cove Council. Lane Cove occupies a peninsula on the northern side of Port Jackson (Sydney Harbour), at the opening of the Lane Cove River.

Sydney Walking Tour - Lane Cove National Park | Riverside Walk

Lane Cove National Park lies in Lane Cove Sydney, in the heart of Sydney city. But I would say that it is the lungs of this city. The vast forest along with the Lane Cove River would make you feel miles away while not venturing too far from your home. You must have heard to Lane Cove Tunnel right? It's close to that and now you can understand the proximity of this national park to the urban jungle.

There are two entrances to the national park, one from Chatswood Sydney and another close to Macquarie University

Lane Cove River Fishing and Kayaking is a very popular activity in this national park but I did something else and off-beaten. I went on the 10km circuit riverside walk that winds around the lane cove river. This walk is also known as lane cove national park mountain bike trails.

Lane cove national park picnic areas are also very good for family and friends and the canopy of trees make a perfect setting for any hot day.

There are a lot of lane cove national park walks to choose from as well and lane cove river is a beautiful spot for fishing, kayaking, swimming and just chilling.

Lane Cove National Park - Sydney

The Lane Cove National Park is a protected national park that is located within metropolitan Sydney, in New South Wales, Australia. The 372-hectare (920-acre) national park is situated about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) north-west of the Sydney central business district. The park consists of land near the banks of the Lane Cove River, which flows generally south-east into Sydney Harbour. It also extends to the outskirts of Pennant Hills and Wahroonga.
The park includes areas of land which are part of Ku-ring-gai, Ryde, and Hornsby local government areas with small areas of the park in Willoughby, Lane Cove and Hunter's Hill local government areas on the banks of the lower reaches of the river. The park is surrounded on all sides by developed suburban areas and except for the upper northwestern region is never more than a kilometre wide. Much of the park is of fairly rugged terrain on the slopes of the river valley and covered by dense bush. The characteristics of the bush vary depending upon soils and topography. Parts of the park are affected by weed infestations.

The central section of the park, between De Burghs Bridge on Ryde Road and Fullers Bridge, was set aside as a park in the 1920s and developed with picnic areas interspersed in the bush along the banks of the river. The majority of these picnic areas are located between the Fuller's Road bridge and the road that leads towards the Tourist Park. North of this point the area becomes more rugged and there are no picnic areas until the Tunks Hill (previously known as Tunks Farm) area which is away from the river behind the garden nursery on Lane Cove Road.

A weir was constructed in the 1930s near Fullers Bridge which converted the middle section of the river from tidal salt-water to a fresh-water area with constant water level suitable for recreational use in rowing boats and canoes. This area was managed by a trust and was called Lane Cove River Park. In 1982, the Government of New South Wales took over direct control of the park which was then called Lane Cove Regional Park. Various nearby areas of undeveloped government land near the river upstream and downstream from the central area including an area around Pennant Hills Park has also been added to the national park. It was then renamed Lane Cove National Park in 1992.

A fish ladder has been constructed next to the weir to enable Australian bass to access the freshwater breeding grounds upstream of the weir. Fishing is allowed in parts of the Lane Cove River as per restrictions managed by NSW Department of Primary Industries.[2]

The Lane Cove National Park is popular with walkers, joggers and cyclists. The Lane Cove River Tourist Park, operated by the NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service, is located within Lane Cove National Park.

The main walking track along the Lane Cove River forms part of the Great North Walk from Sydney CBD to Newcastle. This track incorporates a number of old tracks that were, in many cases, old logging trails.

A rare mushroom Hygrocybe aurantipes was discovered in Lane Cove National Park in 1990.

LANE COVE HUT: All you need to know! Huts of New Zealand

Lane Cove Hut is situated on the edge of the stunning Whangaroa harbour, in Northland New Zealand. Built by the Lane family 100 years ago, it was sold to the NZ government in 1971 before being converted into a serviced 16 bunk hut, and today it stands as New Zealand's northern most mainland hut. Surrounded by stunning waters, regenerating bush and towering cliffs, Lane Cove is one of the best huts to visit during the summer. Whether you visit the hut during a day walk to Dukes Nose, or take a water taxi to the cove, Ranfurly Bay Scenic Reserve is nothing short of a tropical paradise. Enjoy swimming and kayaking out on the water, or the spectacular panoramic views from the 140m Duke's Nose, and then stay the night at the hut listening out for kiwi in the bush outside. Bookings are required all year round at Lane Cove Hut. It is one of the best huts I've been to so far and I highly recommend it!
