We explore the friendly village and meet the great people, all the while on the lookout for werewolves, ghosts, black magic, a slender man, a 150-year-old well, and crispy fried chicken.
It was the first town to get a cinema in Mauritius. The people who live there are really friendly and it has a great atmosphere, but... It is also the town of the supernatural. One of the residents was a practitioner of the dark arts, a summoner of the Madagsy black magic. It is said that he would wander the streets of Lallmatie at night, naked. Those that saw him watched as he would transform into a black dog or cat and even a werewolf. He continues his teachings and there as still some of his followers living and practicing black magic in the town.
Before his arrival, there were two ghostly apparitions that would ride their horse down the streets at night, and now there is the appearance of what can only be described as the slender man. A worldwide phenomenon of watchers that can only be appeased with offerings of tobacco, rum, and sardine fish.
I found it to be a great town and I hardly saw any werewolves. It has a great street-based style that really works. The street foods and vegetable markets lining the sidewalks. Snack shops offering a wide variety of foods, including crispy fried chicken. Friendly face everywhere, always willing to help as we quested to find the 150-year-old well. Again sorry Mister Madoo.
Lallmatie is a must visit, even if you are not looking for the supernatural as it has a special quality the draws you in and makes you part of the family, and maybe that is the true magic of the place.

Thank you for tuning back. Another day, another video! Markets are a place which speaks a lot about the culture of a country, that is why, I had created a series last year, capturing the markets of Mauritius! This is the second episode whereby I tried and filmed bits & parts of the Riviere du Rempart Market fair, which is in the north of Mauritius.

So , last month I went on a road trip with my family on the occasion of my cousin's birthday. We started off with some guava picking and continued our way to one of the most beautiful sites of Mauritius - Maconde Point!
Maconde Point is set on a curved portion of the coastal road from where one can witness a stunning coastal view from up above.
It is believed that the name “Maconde” originates from the slavery period, where runaway slaves from the Makonde tribe of Mozambique came to seek refuge. Others believe that is was named after the governor Jean Baptiste Henri Conde, who built an outlook on the cliff.

Le Piment Rouge - Awesome noodles and crispy chicken
Le Piment Rouge was a great discovery. The owner and head chef worked at the Four Seasons for 14 years and he has taken all his skills and turned a simple snack shop into a delightful restaurant, with some great food. We had the crispy chicken and lamb noodles, both were made fresh to order and served with an ice-cold beer. On the edge of St Julien, near Lalmatie this is a must-visit.
The highlight of the visit for me was his ingenuity, he made his own cooking station to fit his needs, actually, the highlight was the food, it really was that good.

Curepipe Express Bumpy ride !
Rien de spectaculaire, mais ça bouge et il faut bien s'accrocher, surtout quand on est au premier rang et qu'on voit les voitures, les bus et autres arriver en face !
Nothing spectacular but a bumpy ride nonetheless, quite impressive when you're in the first row and you see buses, cars and motorbikes coming right in front !
