#Someshwara temple with the traditional structures of a temple includes a garbha griha, an ardha mantapa or halfway hall, a navaranga and a mukha mantapa or entrance porch.

The Nandi and Shiva Parvati idols in the temple are exquisitely sculpted. These idols are referred to as Saurashtra #Someshwara, as these idols were brought by a Shiva devotee from Saurashtra and installed at #Lakshmeshwara.
Inside the Someshwara temple complex, behind the temple, there is an open step-well. This step-well, being richly carved and ornamented, is of architectural and artistic significance.

#Shanka Basadi is one of the two historical Jinalayaa at #Lakshmeswar. #Neminath (Shankha is the symbol of Neminath), the 22nd Jain #Thirthankara, is the presiding deity of this #Jain Basadi. Basadi, which consists of a garbhagriha, a large ardhamandapa, larger mahamandapa and a rangamandapa. The rangamandapa has three entrances (south, north and west). It has a #chaturmukha structure in diminutive model, each of which carries three figures. it has a rekhanagara shikhara. The unique feature of this temple is the Sahasrakuta Jinabimba in minute form. #Adikavi Pampa wrote #Adi Purana, seated in this Basadi.

On this tour you will discover the many facets of this region: from the beautiful temples, ancient folk art with the power to be exciting, a surprisingly rich Jewish history, impressive panoramic views of lush hill stations, interactions with the locals and of course the scenic backwaters .
In this video report we share some images of our visit to Gokarna, the sea fun, fish harbor and the temple of Murudeshwar, we end in Mysore.

At the temple of Murdeshwara there is a huge Shiva statue 40 meters high. It is the second tallest Shiva statue in the world. The Murdeshwara Temple is built on the Kanduka Hill which is surrounded on three sides by the waters of the Arabian Sea. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple has a 20 storey Raja Gopura. Very impressive.
We entered the temple and received our blessing, but filming inside the temple is not allowed.
Last but not least, we will visit Mysore. We like to experience the ordinary life in India. No better place to experience that than at the local market. A comprehensive report.

Lakshmeshwara is a historical place situated about 40 Kmts from Gadag, Karnataka State.
During 1274 BC, Lakshmeshwara was known as “Puligere” which was ruled by a Mahaamandaleshwara called Lakshmarasa. He built a Shivalaya and renamed the place to “Lakshmaneshwara”, which eventually became “Lakshmeshwara”.
As per the inscriptions, Lakshmeshwara is referenced as “Puligere-Munnooru” between 7th to 16th century. This place was ruled by kings of Badami Chalukyas, Kalyana Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Kalachuryas, Yadavas, and Vijayanagara dynasties.
This place was ruled by a Mahamandalika named “Sarveshwara”. He was blessed with a baby boy after a long time. As part of the celebration, he constructed a temple during 1096, that temple in current time is called “Sri Someshwara Temple”.
Large number of Kannada literature has a mention of / references to “Puligere Sri Someshwara Swamy Temple”. Few of the references are …
Poet Harihara in his book “Harihara Ragale” mentions that a Shaiva by name “Aadayya” consecrated Lord Shiva idol in this temple.
Other mentions / references include
- Kannada Telugu Poet Palkurike Somanatha’s book “Panditaaradhya Charitramu”
- Bheemakavi’s “Basava Purana”
- Virupaksha Pandita’s “Chennabasava Purana” & “Veerashaivamruta Mahapurana”
- Lakkana Dandesha’s “Shivatatva Chintaamani”
- Raghavanka’s “Somanatha Chaaritrya”
Padmavathi took Shivadheekshe and married “Aadayya”. Aadayya brought Sri Someshwara from Sourashtra to announce superiority of Lord Shiva.
Temple is star shaped. Roof of this temple has beautiful sculptures of hindu gods Bhairavi, Shiva, Vishnu, Shakthi, Nataraja, Ganesha, Veerabhadra, Venugopalaswamy. South portion of the Shikara has sculptures of Brahma, Shiva, Yakshas. West portion has Shakthi-Saraswathi. North Portion has Lord Shiva sculptures.

Bhavi (Water Well) located in the backside of temple has been restored. It was supposed to be built during 11th century by “Gowrambike”. During the well restoration a Devi idol was found, which is installed in a nearby temple called “Lajjaa Gowri”.

This temple doesn’t have Linga and Nandi as normally found in any Lord Shiva temple, instead this temple has an idol of Lord Shiva and Parvati maata sitting on Nandi. It almost looks like Lord Shiva after marrying Parvatha Raja’s daughter “Parvathi” taking her to Kailasa by his Nandi, as narrated in Harihara Kavi’s “Girija Kalyana”.
This is a large Ekakuta temple consisting of Mukhamantapa, Navaranga, Antharala and Garbhagriha.
Mukhamantapa is large & stunning, which consists of beautifully carved pillars. During yesterday’s years most of the rituals used to happen here and was also centre for learning.
Garbhagudi has a unique idol Sri Someshwara sitting on Nandi. Parvathi maate is also sitting behind Lord Shiva.
During Magha Maasa (Jan / Feb Month), the rays from raising Sun directly fall on the idol confirming a lot about ancient technology existed back in those times.
Compound wall around the temple is built by Vijayanagara Kings using large stone slabs, South entrance is also built by Vijayanagara Kings.
North and West entrances to the temple resembles Chalukyan style architecture.
