Gurudongmar Lake from Lachen / Exploring Kala Patthar / North Sikkim / Gurudongmar Lake Tour Plan
This video will take and guide you, how one can plan to visit the majestic Gurudongmar Lake in North Sikkim in a cinematic style.
This road trip begins from Gangtok and the day 1 ends in Lachen exploring different waterfalls and new places on the way with the whole different North Sikkim vibe. The best part was, that one has to put all their plastic waterbottles (Bisleri kinds) in the dump before entering the North Sikkim on the check post. DO NOT LITTER!!!
Day 2 morning starts with the views of the beautiful snow peaks in Lachen. At 5 am, one has to get ready to begin one of the most beautiful journeys in the North East to Gurudongmar Lake. The altitude slowly goes up on the way and leads to the No Greenery zone. The oxygen issues are common here, so make sure you drink a lots of water on the way.
One can also visit to Kala Patthar, which is again a tourist point for snow lovers with some extra cost (apart from Gurudongmar Lake package).

TOUR ITINERARY:
DAY 1: NJP/BAGDOGRA TO GANGTOK
Our representative will Meet and Greet on arrival at NJP Railway Station/Bagdogra and transfer to Gangtok (5,480 ft.) 124 km (77 mi). The drive will take you through a bank of river Tista with a beautiful view of mountains and river. On arrival Check-in to hotel and rest. Overnight stay at Gangtok.
DAY 2: TSOMGO LAKE & BABA MANDIR (Optional: Nathula Pass)
After Breakfast will have a Full day Excursion OF Tsomgo Lake. The water in this lake has been accumulated from the melting snow on the mountains located nearby. Post covering Tsomgo Lake we will proceed to Baba Mandir, which is a distinguished sightseeing place of Sikkim. This “Mandir” or shrine is dedicated to “Baba” Harbhajan Singh, who was a soldier of the Indian Army.
*Optional:* Nathula Pass on direct payment basis (3500-5000) depending on the permit.
DAY 3: GANGTOK TO LACHEN
In the morning after breakfast, we will pick you up from the hotel and transfer to Lachen. En-route, we will visit Singhik View Point, Seven Sister Waterfall, Naga Waterfall and later arrive at Lachen by evening. Enjoy dinner followed by an overnight stay at the hotel in Lachen.
DAY 4: LACHEN TO GURUDONMARG LAKE - LACHUNG
After breakfast in the morning, we will proceed to Gurudonmarg Lake which is (17800 Ft). Later return back to the hotel and post lunch leave for Lachung. An overnight stay at the hotel in Lachung.
DAY 5: LACHUNG – YUMTHANG VALLEY EXCURSION - GANGTOK
After Breakfast go to Yumthang Valley, spend time in this beautiful and peaceful Valley, you can also visit the Yumthang Hot Spring. Later return to Lachung, Post Lunch get transferred to Gangtok and overnight stay at Gangtok.
Optional: Zero Point will be on direct payment basis (3500)
DAY 6: GANGTOK TO DARJEELING
After having breakfast move towards Darjeeling which is a beautiful hill town set in West Bengal which is known for its tea plantations. The place makes one experience the most breath-taking views of the Himalayas. on the way visit to Triveni viewpoint. After reaching Darjeeling, check-in to the hotel and after fresh up can have a Toy Train ride (BY OWN) free to roam Darjeeling market in the evening.
DAY 7: TIGER HILL & DARJEELING SIGHTSEEING
Early Morning at 04am will move towards tiger hill. It is famous for its panoramic view of Mount Everest and MT Kanchenjunga together and early morning sunrise. On the way back to hotel visit the famous Ghoom Monastery and Batasia Loop. After breakfast will have sightseeing which includes, Japanese temple, Peace pagoda, Ava art gallery, Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (Closed on Thursday), Darjeeling Ropeway, Tenzing Gumpo Rock, Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre (Closed on Sunday). Overnight stay at Darjeeling
DAY 8: KURSEONG VISIT & DROP TO NJP/BAGDOGRA
After breakfast, check-out from the hotel and back to NJP/Bagdogra via Kurseong.

Gurudongmar lake is a sacred lake located amidst the magnificent Kanchenjunga and is a once in a lifetime experience! That’s if you can make it there. Oxygen levels are low here. Every taxi has to have an oxygen tank and cans.
Generally 2N/3D is sufficient for Lachung and Lachen.
The best season to visit Lachen is the onset of summer season which is right now!!! You see snow but it’s not as cold as winter. If you’re going, go soon before it melts!
They oxygen level is very low but not so low that it will kill you instantly. Be careful!
You can barely spend 10 mins at the lake, without feeling nauseous.
I’m so thrilled that Sikkim has banned plastic ❤️???????? or it would become like Ladakh ???? it’s so much cleaner thanks to their government that is very strict on littering ❤️❗️

North Sikkim is a district of the Indian state of Sikkim. Its district headquarters is Mangan. It is the seventh least populous district in the country (out of 640).The district is the largest in four districts of Sikkim. The landscape is mountainous with dense vegetation to the alpine height before the southern tundra, before leaving the desert. Many waterfalls surrounded by the main road make visit to this district very beautiful.

The landscape is mountainous with dense vegetation all the way up to the alpine altitude before thinning out to desert scrub towards the northern tundra. Numerous waterfalls astride the main road make the trip to this district extremely picturesque.
The most prominent effect of the steepness of the valleys is the prevalence of landslides that at times drop to anything between 3000 and 5,000 ft (1,500 m) carrying devastation along their course. Most of them are caused either by the melting snow beds on top of the mountains or by erosive action of the rains.
Most of the people of the state reside near Mangan, the district headquarters which is about 2,000 feet (610 m) above sea level. Further north the elevation increases with the vegetation turning from temperate to alpine to tundra. Temperatures range from about 25° to below −40° in the extreme high reaches where the altitude is in excess of 6,000 metres. Kanchenjanga is the highest peak at over 8,000 m, straddling its western border with Nepal and can be seen clearly from the town of Singhik.

17,800 feet pe Gurudongmar Lake ke darshan ke baad next day bhi sab usi ke hangover me hi the. Par aaj baari thi humare next destination Lachung ki. Lachen se nikalte hue aisa laga ki isse better views toh kya hi milenge but we were so wrong! Thand badhti gai, aur snowclad peaks humare aur nazdeek aate gaye. Journey to Lachung was nothing less than another fairytale. To top it all, halki halki snow flakes bhi gire. Overjoyed by this, hamari khushi ka ko koi thikana nahi tha. Ab ye toh hume pata tha ki Lachung ke raste me kayi waterfalls bhi padte hain par ye nahi maalum tha ki waterfalls ke sath highway par hume milega ek karaoke junction. Sikkim me Karaoke culture itna popular hai ki Bhim Nala waterfall ke paas ek fully setup karaoke stall tha right on the highway. Yaha kuch der gaane aur masti ke baad hum pachuche Lachung. Lachung me humara stay tha - Bayul Homestay me, jo main town se dur, yahan ke almost highest point pe tha. And to say we were blown away by the location is an understatement. Is stay aur views ke baare me to aapko tassalli se batana padega aur uske lie kal phir milte hain to continue our journey of 20 DIN IN SIKKIM.
