Embarking on a journey to the Komodo Islands had been a dream of mine for years, and Labuan Bajo served as the perfect getaway for this adventure. We allocated a week for our trip, with three full days dedicated to a boat excursion around the islands and the remainder of our time spent exploring Labuan Bajo's offerings and indulging in some well-deserved relaxation.
Our adventure began the moment we landed at Komodo Airport, where we were greeted by our local tour guide and a luxurious Toyota Alphard which transferred us to our accommodation. Our hotel of choice was the exclusive Plataran Komodo Resort & Spa, a secluded haven featuring just 18 luxurious villas, promising an intimate and serene getaway. The warm welcome from the local staff upon our arrival at the resort set the tone for our stay. We were escorted to our two-story villa, which boasted its own private pool, offering a haven of privacy and luxury amidst the natural beauty of Labuan Bajo
Located approximately 30 kilometers east of Labuan Bajo, Cunca Wulang Waterfall is an exquisite natural marvel that in case of no traffic can be accessed within an hour's drive. This site features a crystal-clear river valley nestled amidst majestic rock formations. The name Cunca Wulang translates to waterfall and moon, aptly capturing the ethereal beauty of this location. Situated 200 meters above sea level, the cool atmosphere here offers a refreshing escape from the tropical heat.
Arrival in the Cekondo area marked the start of a roughly 4-kilometer trek to this secluded wonder of Flores Island. The path to Cunca Wulang is not just a journey through nature but also a cultural exploration, as hiring a local travel guide is mandatory. The trek culminates in the stunning view of the waterfall, which cascades over rocks and flows through gaps in the stone, creating a mesmerizing spectacle that leaves visitors in awe of nature's artistry.
We were leaving the place in total darkness surrounded by sounds of nocturnal animals. This thrilling feeling of adventure, potential danger excited me a lot. Pure adventure in Julius Vern style. After such an intense but enjoyable day it was extremely nice to come back to the comfort of our villa.

Known for its plethora of ancient ruins, whitewashed villages, sunny beaches, tasty cuisine and friendly atmosphere, it is no wonder that Greece ranks among Europe’s top travel destinations. But the reason that tourism exists in the first place is that it’s just so beautiful here. Often, you’ll find that beauty on the many scattered islands, lying like little gems in the seas surrounding the Grecian peninsula. Each one offers its own share of stunning landscapes, historic sites, nightlife scenes and cultural delights. There’s a wealth of these to explore. From the Ionian islands in the west – including Kefalonia and Corfu – to the Aegean Sea, boasting Mykonos, Santorini, Kos, and Rhodes, amongst others. Then there’s the pre-Hellenic Minoan culture of Crete to the south. Back on the mainland, there’s scenery worthy of the gods all over the place. The monastery of Meteora, the ruins at Delphi, and then, most famously, the capital of Athens and its iconic Parthenon. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in Greece:
10. Cape Sounion.
Situated at the southernmost tip of the Attica peninsula, Cape Sounion is best known as the site of the ruins of the ancient Greek temple of Poseidon, the god of the sea. The remains are perched on the headland, surrounded on three sides by the sea. The site is a popular day-excursion for tourists from Athens, with sunset over the Aegean Sea, as viewed from the ruins, a sought-after spectacle.
9. Thessaloniki.
Thessaloniki is Greece’s second-largest city and the capital city of the Macedonian region of Northern Greece. Lively festivals, social events and a buzzing nightlife make this city the cultural capital of Greece.
8. Zagori.
Zagori is a region of great natural beauty, with striking geology and two national parks, in northwestern Greece.
7. Halkidiki.
Halkidiki is a trident-like peninsula near the city of Thessaloniki, sporting excellent beaches. The three separate peninsulas can be roughly summarized as follows: Kassandra has the nightlife, Sithonia has the beaches and Athos has the monks. Being closest to Thessaloniki, Kassandra is more built-up, while the more quiet Sithonia has campgrounds, hidden coves and clear waters. Both are popular with Greek and Eastern European tourists.
6. Peloponnese.
Shaped much like a large leaf, Peloponnese was traditionally called Morea, which means mulberry leaf. Located in the southernmost region of both Europe and Greece, Peloponnese is a wide peninsula connected to the mainland by the Rio-Antirrio bridge

Second to the Acropolis in Athens, Delphi is Greece’s most popular archaeological site. The Greek word meteora means suspended in the air, and this phrase aptly describes the spectacular cliffs that rise more than 1,200 feet (366 meters) into the air overlooking the villages of Kalambaka and Kastraki in the north central mainland of Greece.

The largest of the Greek islands, Crete is a spacious land of pleasing contrasts where landscapes range from stunning coastline to rugged mountains and rolling countryside dotted with olive trees.

The landscape is incredibly beautiful, you can climb volcanoes and there are some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. In this episode I take you along the most beautiful places of Komodo National Park and show you how you can make this trip yourself from Bali or Flores. From the place Labuan Bajo we go on various tours, we see the Komodo dragons and we swim with giant manta rays!
We are visiting Indonesia during a one year world tour and maybe we will even continue to travel indefinitely. On New Year's Day we started in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, the Canary Islands. Then you saw us in Oman, Cape Verde, Martinique, Saint Lucia, Tobago, Grenada, Bahamas, United States, Mexico, Ecuador, Galapagos Islands, Brazil, Qatar and Thailand. Our first destination of today is Komodo National Park, a realm where unique creatures reign supreme—the Komodo dragons, the world's largest lizards, standing at an impressive 3 meters (9.8 feet) and weighing 70 kilograms (150 pounds). These apex predators showcased their dominance, allowing us to witness wildlife in its natural habitat.

Returning to our ship, we relished a simple yet joyous itinerary. My daughter, playing the role of a capable captain, navigated the speedboat with precision, delivering us back to the ship right on schedule.
