Western Sahara | Worldtripco | Laayoune | North coast in West Africa | Top places in Western Sahara|

Western Sahara is a sparsely-populated area of mostly desert situated on the northwest coast of Africa. Western Sahara is virtually all desert and is very sparsely inhabited. The Kasbah and mosque in the town of Semara are among the major Muslim monuments in Western Sahara. The principal city is Laayoune, the old colonial capital. There is little agriculture in the region; camels, goats, and sheep are raised, and dried fish is exported to the Canary Islands.

Laayoune City Tour l Kitesurfing And Desert Tour in Morocco【4K Drone】 ????????

For travelers looking for an adventure off the beaten path, Laayoune makes a wonderful choice. The city is only about an hour and a half long flight from Casablanca yet has a feel all of its own. People who live in Laayoune are a mix of Moroccans and Saharawi. Women in Laayoune wear a brightly colored dress called a melafa. A melafa is most similar to an Indian sari and is often worn with a long sleeve shirt and leggings underneath. The language also changes. Like the north, Spanish is widely spoken as a second language and most people speak either Moroccan Arabic or Hassaniya.

DISCOVERING A RIVER IN THE DESERT! EXPERIENCING LAAYOUNE! ????????

Welcome back to another video everyone, today we find ourselves in Western Sahara or Moroccan Sahara as some may call it. Western Sahara is a region thats been in contention between 2 forces, the moroccan forces, and the polisario (or the native saharan people's liberation army) This territory is classified as a UN conflict zone, one of 30+ conflicts recognized by the UN today.

The region hasn't experienced any fighting since a cease fire which took place over 40 years ago. The purpose of this video was to explore Laayoune, the capital city in the Western Sahara territory. I never thought I would experience such a place, and I got to do so with a friend of mine I randomly met while exploring Morocco.

Everyone in this region was extremely hospitable, kind, and caring- the saharans, and moroccans alike. This is one of multiple videos I'll release regarding my experience here in Western Sahara.

I hope you all enjoyed!

WESTERN SAHARA to MAURITANIA: from Dakhla to the most dangerous border of the world // EPS.2

Three months after we drove the motorcycles to Dakhla, we continued our journey in the desert of Morocco/Western Sahara. We had heard many nightmare stories about the border of Mauritania ahead (it was supposed to be the most dangerous border in the world with a lawless No Man's land with landmines and small sandy tracks). But our first obstacle when returning to Dakhla was to find a motorcycle garage for changing the tires of our bikes before we could enjoy the oasis of Dakhla for Kitesurfing. A little break before we really started our adventure ride south through the desert on the westcoast of Africa. On the way through Morocco/ Western Sahara we came across many checkpoints, beautiful dunes and amazing landscapes before we finally hit the border of Mauritania...

// Check out my friends from Dakhla Wind Paradise if you plan to visit Dakhla for desert excursions or kitesurfing.

// Welcome to the journey! I am Lea, a journalist and author and I want to take you with me on a motorcycle overloading adventure to all the wild and beautiful places in the world!

//Join the first stage of my trip around Africa along the coast of Westafrica through 12 countries: Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Cote D’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin.

// I circumnavigated the world solo from 2016-2017 and now I am going to all other places I have not seen yet. Now on the channel: my motorcycle trip around africa/ the first stage of the journey through westafrica.

About Laayoune: Laayoune or El Aaiún is the largest city of the disputed territory of Western Sahara and de facto administered by Morocco. The modern city is thought to have been founded by the Spanish colonizer Antonio de Oro in 1938. In 1940, Spain designated it as the capital of the Spanish Sahara. Laâyoune (El Aaiún) is the capital of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region administered by Morocco under the supervision of the UN peace-keeping mission in Western Sahara (MINURSO). The town is divided in two by the dry river of Saguia el-Hamra. On the south side is the old lower town, constructed by Spanish colonists. A cathedral from that era is still active; its priests serve this city and Dakhla further south. Most people in Laayoune have Moroccan heritage. // Western Sahara (Arabic: الصحراء الغربية‎‎ aṣ-Ṣaḥrā al-Gharbiyyah; Berber languages: Taneẓroft Tutrimt; Spanish and French: Sahara Occidental) is a disputed territory on the northwest coast and in the Maghreb region of North and West Africa, partially controlled by the self-proclaimed Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and partially occupied by neighboring Morocco. Its surface area amounts to 266,000 square kilometres (103,000 sq mi). It is one of the most sparsely populated territories in the world, mainly consisting of desert flatlands. The population is estimated at just over 500,000, of which nearly 40% live in Laayoune, the largest city in Western Sahara. [Source: wikipedia // Google]

Follow us on our Grand Moroccan Roadtrip!
From sweeping sand dunes to desolate highways of emptiness, bustling cities, and snow-covered peaks, we explored Morocco from north to south and east to west. Driving more than 10,000 km in eight weeks, our roadtrip included many unforgettable adventures. Watch as we explore remote landscapes, climb high peaks, battle breath-taking dust-topias (double pun, yeah!), and navigate the hectic bustle of Morocco’s major cities.

Thank you:
A big THANK YOU goes to Saloua Dabhi who helped tremendously with pronouncing Moroccan names. Real Talk:
Despite our attempt at keeping our Morocco Travel Documentary as authentic as possible, you are still watching a highlight reel. When editing, we naturally tend to choose the most exciting videos. What you don’t see are the hours spent driving through less spectacular landscapes or some of the unpleasant challenges we faced.

Did we like everything about Morocco?
Far from it. As mentioned in the video, the huge amount of trash definitely dampened our experience. Additionally, we were surprised by the sheer number of begging children. During our trip, we counted a minimum of 500 children asking us for money or sweets. While Morocco undoubtedly has to combat poverty, this behavior often seemed less dictated by need and more by opportunity. Stopping and giving is an individual choice, of course, but when we didn’t we were regularly flipped off, kicked after, or hurled insults at.
In general, though, we perceived most Moroccans as extremely friendly and helpful. The best example is the three local men who selflessly helped us to change our ruptured tire. We cannot thank them enough.

Full Disclosure:
This trip was entirely self-funded. However, we did enjoy a two-night complimentary stay at La Sultana Oualidia and a two-night complimentary stay at La Sultana Marrakech.

Cities

Rabat – The capital of Morocco; very relaxed and hassle-free, highlights include a 12th-century tower and minaret.
Casablanca – This modern city by the sea is a starting point for visitors flying into the country. If you have the time, both the historical medina and the contemporary mosque (the third largest in the world) are well worth an afternoon
Fez – Fez is the former capital of Morocco and one of the oldest and largest medieval cities in the world.
Marrakech (Marrakesh)– Marrakech is a perfect combination of old and new Morocco. Plan to spend at least a few days wandering the huge maze of souks and ruins in the medina. The great plaza of Djeema El Fna at dusk is not to be missed although the sheer number and concentration of tourists may be off putting for some.
Meknes – A laid back city that offers a welcome break from the tourist crush of neighbouring Fez. Was once an imperial capital and retains its extensive walls and an old city smaller yet similar to that of Fez. There are a number of vineyards in the area around Meknes.
Ouarzazate – Considered the Capital of the South, Ouarzazate is a great example of preservation and tourism that hasn't destroyed the feel of a fantastic and ancient city.
Tangier –Tangier is the starting point for most visitors arriving by ferry from Spain. An enigmatic charm which has historically attracted numerous artists (Matisse), musicians (Hendrix), politicians (Churchill), writers (Burroughs, Twain) and others (Malcolm Forbes).
Taroudannt – A southern market town.
Tetouan – Known for its peaceful beaches and is the gateway to the Rif Mountains.
Al Hoceima – Beach town on the Mediterranean coast.
Laayoun One of the most beautiful cities in the Western Sahara, filled with ethnic Berber history and culture.
Dakhla One of the most beautiful cities in the Western Sahara, it is known for its serene beaches and seas, and for its delicious sardines.

Main Destinations

Agadir – Agadir is best-known for its beaches. The town is a nice example of modern Morocco, with less emphasis on history and culture. Take the local bus for MAD5/10 to the north town of Auorir and Tamri where there are great beaches
Amizmiz – With one of the largest Berber souks in the High Atlas Mountains every Tuesday, Amizmiz is a popular destination for travelers looking for a day trip that is easily accessible (about an hour) from Marrakech
Chefchaouen – A mountain town just inland from Tangier full of white-washed winding alleys, blue doors, and olive trees, Chefchaouen is clean as a postcard and a welcome escape from Tangier, evoking the feeling of a Greek island
Essaouira – An ancient sea-side town newly rediscovered by tourists. From mid-June to August the beaches are packed but any other time and you'll be the only person there. Good music and great people. Nearest Coast from Marrakech
High Atlas
Imouzzer a traditional Berber town perched in the Atlas mountains, beautiful scenery and a wonderful waterfall. Excellent handicrafts, argan oil and berber jewellery.
Merzouga and M'Hamid – From either of these two settlements at the edge of the Sahara, ride a camel or 4x4 into the desert for a night (or a week) among the dunes and under the stars
Tinerhir – This town is the perfect point of access to the stunning High Atlas
Archaeological sites
Volubilis – 30km North of Meknes, biggest Roman ruins in Morocco, next to the holy town Moulay Idriss
