We Traveled to LIMA, PERU | Interesting Things To Do & See and What We Learned

Peru Guide ( con subtitulos)
*NOTE & Correction - Pisco Day is the 4th Sunday of July and it happens to fall on July 28th this year.
In our visit to South America, our travels takes us first to Lima, Peru. It's our first time in Lima and it completely did not disappoint.

⭐⭐ LIMA HIGHLIGHTS⭐⭐

1. Since Peru is known for its food, take a cooking class or a food tour with a local. There are several you could book online. This was on our list, but unfortunately due to bad weather on our trip into Lima we missed a day and missed our cooking class.

2. Definitely visit Parque del Amor. A gorgeous park is in the Miraflores neighborhood. Excellent spot to catch a sunset, soak up the positive energy and even capture some incredible photos.

3. Take a nice drive ( 4 hours) to Huacachina and experience the incredible Sand Dune buggy and Sand Surfing. Great little shops in the area and wonderful spots to eat lunch.

4. If you're going to be in Huacachina, stop at a the restaurant/winery called El Catador in ICA. The food and drinks are delicious. We tried a native dish Carapulcra Sopa Seca and Carapulcra Arroz Verde.

5. Boat Tour to the Ballestas Island to see the Penguins and incredible birds and wildlife. ( VERY touristy and can get VERY busy so get there early.

6. In Miraflores, the malecon runs along the coast for miles. You'll see many people out either running, walking, biking. There's even a dog park and playgrounds. So something or everyone.

7. Visit Plaza de Armas both during the day and at night. The churches and other buildings are spectacular. You can also visit the San Francisco Church and the famous catacombs there.
At night Plaza de Armas is stunning visual treat.
See the oldest fountain in Lima, Peru there and if yo ugoing to be traveling to Lima in July..on July 26th they fill the fountain with Pisco for everyone to drink. ( BONUS)

8. The place in Lima we had Ceviche was called Sabor a Peru in the City Center..not our favorite but we did have it at night, and apparently you should have Ceviche during the day and certainly by lunch time. We weren't impressed with the restaurant but that's just our opinion.

Our first impressions visiting Iquitos, Peru

We've done a lot of travel in Peru; however, we've yet to visit the Amazon basin jungle area up in the north. With an opportunity to take a river cruise in the Amazon we flew from Lima to Iquitos. Visiting Iquitos, the largest city in the region, was a place we stayed for two nights. Our first impressions of the city were favorable as we had an opportunity to take a tuk-tuk ride (known locally as motocar), explore markets, enjoy local delicacies and visit the Belen water stilt village and pet friendly cats and dogs. Come join us as we pound the pavement giving you a tour of Iquitos, Peru.

Our first impressions visiting Iquitos, Peru Travel Guide Video Transcript:

After spending some time in Lima, we flew into Iquitos for the final leg of our Peruvian adventure. The landscape changed from arid deserts to mountains and finally to jungle as our flight crossed the country, and once we arrived, the first thing we did was hop into a tuk-tuk to take us into the city.

So we have made it to Iquitos. We had some lunch, we had a nap. It is now time to explore but first up we have to show you our hotel. It is called Hotel Epoca and it is super cool. It is a colonial building with a cute terrace and you just have to see it. So let's go. I know.

Iquitos is a really fascinating city. It is the largest city in the world that cannot be reached by road, which means that if you want to visit, you either have to take a plane or a boat to get there.

For many, Iquitos is just a quick stopover en route to an Amazon river cruise or a jungle stay, however, we were pretty excited to get to explore this colonial city.

So favorite part of the city so far is walking along the riverfront. We've got the Rio Amazonas just over there. And it is a really scenic walk. It is, it reminds us so much of Luang Prabang in Laos. Yes. Like it is bringing us right back. So similar.

Rrrrrr. We can hear those engines purring. Yes, something that also reminds us so much of Southeast Asia is all of the tuk-tuk. It is a city of tuk-tuk. You see motorcycles and rickshaw drivers everywhere.

It is an Iron House and that was built by Gustav Eiffel and brought piece by piece all the way from France in 1890. Wow! Or so rumor has it! There is little evidence tying Eiffel to this building, but the mystery keeps people visiting .

We spent the rest of the afternoon just wandering around Iquitos on foot. We didn’t have a map and we didn't have a guide, but we somehow managed to hit a lot of the main landmarks and then some.

Well I would say it has been a pretty fun first half day of exploration. We're really enjoying the town so far. Yes. This is a place I have wanted to visit for such a long time because my Grandma is actually from this area. Not from the city but from like a tiny little colony in the middle of the jungle that no longer even exists. I know. So it is pretty cool here. I feel like we have a much greater appreciation of where she is from and the kinds of food she has been eating because if you stay tune to our channel we're going to be filming a lot of food vlogs of all the regional cuisine from the Amazon.

Okay, so we made it to Belen which is the little village on water stilts. We ended up in the more residential area of Belen, however, there is a more touristy area where you can hire a peke-peke boat to take you out on the water. While we didn’t get to experience this, it could be a cool way to see the village from a different vantage point.

So Audrey, what are you seeing so far? Mostly fresh produce. Fruits and vegetables. Lots of colorful fruit. And I can smell cilantro in the air. So we just went through a really busy market. Now we're heading back into a different section of the water stilt village.

So that is a wrap from Iquitos. Tomorrow we are off to stay in a tree house lodge in the middle of the jungle. And from there we're going to be cruising down the Amazon. Yeah. Can't wait for that. So the adventures continue and we'll have many more videos to come. Ciao. Ciao.

This is part of our Travel in Peru video series showcasing Peruvian food, Peruvian culture and Peruvian cuisine.

Is the most BEAUTIFUL BEACH IN COLOMBIA a tourist trap? ???????? COLOMBIA TRAVEL

Playa Blanca is the most popular day trip from Cartagena. And while it undoubtedly is the most beautiful beach on mainland Colombia, it is also controversial for its well documented scams.
I stayed on Isla Baru, just down the beach from Playa Blanca on Playa Tranquila and was able to see how to beach changed as tourists flooded it each day and have advice on how to avoid scams, the price for things and where to eat the best coastal food.

5 Things American Tourists Shouldn't Wear in Europe

Grab some of our gear

Please Note: Young People Wear Many of These Styles Throughout Europe. These tips are geared toward 35+ year old travelers. Thanks for watching!

Grab a Wolters World Shirt

Heading to Europe & Not Sure What to Pack? Here are a few things that my fellow US travelers may want to avoid packing if they are traveling to Europe.
1. Baseball Caps: Europeans in general do not wear baseball caps, especially backwards. You would be better served to wear a more traditional hat. You will see an occasional NY Yankee hat, but why not buy the fancy hat you always wanted instead?
2. Athletic Wear: Europeans tend to wear athletic wear to do sports, not to wear around town. There is a trend of more athleisurewear in Europe, but it is not to the extent that there is in US.
3. Khakis: the omnipresent US male pant choice is not something you will see too often in Europe. Go for colored pants or jeans. If you want khaki like pants wear Chinos instead of Dockers. The pants you will see are a thinner cut or skinnier fit than in the US.
4. Oversized US University Sweatshirts.
5. Sport Shoes or High Heals: US sport shoes and white socks are not quite as popular in Europe as they are in the US. You may be better off with Urban Street shoes like Vans instead. Also, women should be careful with high heels as with all the cobblestone it is easy to hurt your ankles.

We travel with a Microsoft Surface everywhere we go. I edit my videos on it & use it to backup my pictures and vides while we travel. It’s light and the best travel laptop on the market in my opinion.

We use Sony Alpha series cameras to film our videos. They are compact so you don’t look like a super tourist when you take great pictures and videos while you travel.

We use Manfrotto Tripods. They are compact, travel well, and honestly I would not use another tripod for my nice cameras.

Travel Plug that works in pretty much any country & has four USB ports. A must for any traveler.

Want to grab some great gear? We have used Osprey Packs for years & swear by them. Check them out here

Need some clothing for your next adventure? Patagonia has some pretty good stuff for all kinds of travelers.

Discovering Nazca | Top Places to Visit in Nazca, Perú | Archeological Sites of Nazca

Discover the mythical and mysterious Nazca, where the enigmatic Nazca people lived thousand of years ago. See the world famous Nazca lines from a plane and marvel at its other archaeological wonders.

For a guide to bring you around Nazca, we suggest to contact Señor Elvert (+51 956 849 794), a kind and knowledgeable guide that can drive you to the archeological sites.

Places to visit in Nazca:
-See Nazca lines from a small plane
A true wonder of the world, carved by ancient Nazca people thousands of years ago and no one knows how they actually managed to draw such huge images on the desert.
-Pyramid of Cahuachi
A mysterious site where the high priests of the Nazca civilization lived.
-Aquaduct of Cantalloc
An engineering marvel by the Nazca people, a thousands-years old aquaduct system still functioning until today, irrigating the surrounding farms in the desert.
-Necropolis/Cemetery of Chauchilla
Tombs of the Nazca people scattered over an area in the arid desert. Much of the tombs have been raided in the past hundreds of years but several remain, complete with the mummified bodies of the Nazcans.

Tips for your visit:
-Take an early morning flight to see the Nazca lines when the wind is calmer. Skip breakfast to lessen the effect of the motion sickness on the plane.
-You can of course pre-book your Nazca lines flight to guarantee seats on the plane. However, during the low season, you could probably get a cheaper ticket by showing up at the airport one day before to choose your flight.
-You'll need a car to visit the pyramid of Cahuachi and Cemetery of Chauchilla from Nazca town. Going on a tour is advisable, since there is zero explanation at the sites and your guide would be able to explain the history and mysteries of each site.
-You can take a short taxi ride from Nazca town to Aquaduct of Cantalloc. Ask the driver to wait, since there is hardly any taxi going around the area.
