Entre las fascinantes encantos del departamento de la Libertad, en la ciudad de Trujillo se encuentra uno de los restos arqueológicos más impresionantes de todo el norte del Perú: las Huacas del Sol y la Luna. Estas construcciones, son el legado de la cultura moche, fueron dos centros de gran importancia que hoy en día tienen sus puertas abiertas para mostrar la grandeza de la cultura Moche.
Cuenta la leyenda que la Huaca del Sol fue construida por 250 mil hombres en 3 días y que se necesitaron más de 140 millones de adobes para terminarla. Y que en la Huaca de la Luna se realizaban sacrificios humanos… ¡hasta 40 guerreros fueron encontrados en su interior! Estas dos imponentes construcciones de adobe se miran una a la otra en medio del arido desierto del norte de Perú.
Hoy en día, tenemos el privilegio de poder visitar la Huaca de la Luna y admirar los coloridos murales que cuentan la historia del dios Aiapaec.

TRUJILLO DAY TRIP | Huanchaco, Huacas de Moche & Chan Chan, Peru | Northern Peru Travel
We finally left Cusco for Trujillo, the third-largest city in Peru, located in Northern Peru.
In this vlog, we take you on a day trip from Trujillo to three different sites:
1. Huacas de Moche (Temples of Moche)
2. Chan Chan Peru
3. Huanchaco

Our first stop was the Moche Temples, which consists of the Moche Museum (Museo Huacas de Moche), Temple of the Sun (Huaca del Sol) and Temple of the Moon (Huaca de la Luna). It was the city of the Moche civilization, which was developed around year 600 - a few hundred years prior to the Inca civilization.
Our second stop was the Chan Chan Ruins, which are one of the most endangered UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The ruins of Chan Chan also includes the Rainbow Temple (Huaca del Dragón), as well as the main Chan Chan Archaeological Zone. Chan Chan is a pre-Columbian city in the Americas. This Chimu Kingdom was the largest adobe city in the world with around 10,000 buildings. It was the capital of the Chimú civilization.
We ended our day in Huanchaco, a coastal town that used to be a sleepy fishing village. The waves here make the Huanchaco surf popular with the locals.
We're so glad we did this tour. It was a definite Northern Peru Travel bucket list item, as this is one of the least visited regions of Peru. Northern Peru receives less than 10% of International visitors to Peru.
