Top 10 Things to do in Monaco 4k | Must Do Travels

Monaco is a tiny independent city-state on France’s Mediterranean coastline known for its upscale casinos, yacht-lined harbor and prestigious Grand Prix motor race. Monte-Carlo is its major district and has many luxury hotels, boutiques, nightclubs and restaurants.

10. Port de Fontvieille

Fontvieille is the southernmost part in Monaco. It was developed by an Italian architect, Manfredi Nicoletti, between the 1970s and the 1990s. Today, it hosts the Monaco Heliport which has flights to Nice, New York, Dubai, London and other major cities in Europe. Fontevielle is also the home of Monaco’s automobile museum that displays the world famous Monaco’s top cars collection.

9. St Nicholas Cathedral

Saint Nicholas Cathedral, but known to be called The Cathedral of Our Lady Immaculate, is a Roman Catholic cathedral, where many of the Grimaldis were buried, including Grace Kelly. Each year on December 6th, the people of Monaco gather at the cathedral for a joyful remembrance of St. Nicholas' life.

8. Oceanographic Museum

The Oceanographic museum is home to exhibits of starfish, seahorses, turtles, jellyfish and so much more. There are over 4,000 species of fish that represent the Mediterranean and tropical sealife. The building is part of the Oceanographic Institute which is committed to globally sharing its knowledge of the oceans.

7. Larvotto Beach

Larvotto Beach is known to be one of the most glamorous beaches in the world. The beach is a free-to-the-public shore located just a short walk from Monte Carlo. But like many French Riviera beaches, this one has pebbles rather than sand - so be sure to come prepared! It’s also important to note that this beach is really popular, so getting there early is critical to getting a good spot.

6. Jardin Exotique

The Jardin Exotique de Monaco is located on the Mediterranean coast between Nice and Menton. It is a stunning garden with fabulous sea views. Travelers come from all over the world to see the mature exotic garden which grows along the edge of a cliff overlooking the bay of Monaco. The view over Monaco and the French and Italian Riviera is simply breathtaking.

5. Monaco Grand Prix

The Monaco Grand Prix is a Formula One motor race held each year on the Circuit de Monaco. The race is considered to be one of the most important and prestigious car races in the world since 1929. The Grand Prix brings tourists from around the world and is famous for being a destination for glamour and prestige.

4. Monte Carlo Harbor

Monte Carlo Harbor stretches almost the entire length of the principality and includes some of the most impressive landmarks that the small country has to offer. The Harbor showcases an impressive selection of luxury yachts, restaurants, and cafes for you to explore. This is the perfect place to have a coffee, beer, or glass of wine as you watch the boats go by.

3. Monaco Ville (Le Rocher)

Monaco Ville, also called Le Rocher, is the only part of Monaco that has kept its original old town, complete with small, windy medieval lanes. There are plenty of staircases up to Le Rocher; with the the best route being up via Rampe Major, which starts from Place d'Armes near the port.

2. Monte Carlo Casino

The Monte-Carlo Casino is an integral part of Monaco and is a must-do when you go visit this small but glorious country. Known for its iconic casino rooms and for its beautiful decor, the casino has played a large part in how Monaco has evolved and adapted since the 1920s. The best part: the casino accepts currencies from around the world so anyone can be part of the fun!

1. Prince’s Palace

This lavish Monaco-Ville palace is home to the prince and has been the home of the Grimaldi family in the 13th century and Prince Rainier III and Princess Grace in the 20th century. Today, Rainier’s son and heir, Prince Albert II, calls this palace home. The palace also features a changing of the guard every morning at 11:55. If you’re not up for a tour of the rooms, just going to visit the exterior of the palace is a must-do in Monaco.

Monaco, Monte Carlo, Condamine and the Rock

travel videos & photos at: with text, maps & links.
We are visiting Monaco, a very small and very rich country. It's just over half the size of New York's Central Park, and every third person here is a millionaire, but you don't have to be rich to visit, as we'll show you.
See more of our Provence movies here:
Nice and Monaco
Aix-en-Provence and Marseilles

Saint-Rémy, Les Baux, Pont du Gard, Uzès and Nimes

Arles

Monaco's nearest big city is Nice, just thirteen kilometers away along the French Riviera, and it's connected by direct train service that just takes 1/2 an hour to get here. There are three main exits from the train station. If you walk out at Ste Devote it will bring you pretty quickly right to the waterfront and the downtown Condamine neighborhood. It's a short easy walk. It's quite level and attractive as you see, and right away you'll be getting into the town itself.
However, I'll suggest, and be showing you here, the upper exit that will put you out in the direction of Monte Carlo, heading for the casino, which everybody wants to see.
After exiting the upper level of the train station, walk along Boulevard Princess Charlotte which has a wide sidewalk, busy traffic, upscale apartments, and Hotel Novotel, which would be an excellent place to stay.
And there are some shops and offices mixed in along this grand boulevard, and which is leading us in the direction of Monte Carlo and the casino, but along the way we first want to stop off at the Tourist Information Office.
So we stopped in, had a nice talk with Margie, who showed us some brochures and a map, told us about what to do, providing very useful information. You can also download the map and several brochures from the Tourist Information Office website, visit Monaco.com, which also has a lot of information about hotels, restaurants and things to do.
From here, you walk a block and then cross the street to the Pavilions Monte Carlo. This is a brand-new shopping complex that looks like it's dropped out of a Mars expedition, avant-garde styling with pedestrian lanes weaving through it.
Next we walk in the French-style garden featuring little landscaped valleys, waterfalls, streams and ponds, populated with exotic trees and colorful flowerbeds. Along with several other gardens, Monaco has Europe's second-highest percent of urban land in greenery.
We have a lot more to see and show you in Monaco.
La Condamine is a wonderful district in the center of Monaco, with the casino district to the east and the Old Town up on the rock with the palace to the west. La Condamine sits in somewhat of a valley between the two. It's fairly level, as you can see, there's a slight slope to the street but no big hills to climb or staircases necessary in this part of town.
It is pure pleasure to spend some time here, and a perfect place for a meal, as you'll see, lunch or dinner or a snack even breakfast, what have you. There are so many food choices here ranging from the supermarket we will get to, with simple take-out foods, or you might want to sit down and share a pizza with some salad, as my travel companions from Hawaii thoroughly enjoyed, with his outdoor ambience, good service, reasonable prices, delicious food and a view of all the people passing by – perfection.
Like most Monaco neighborhoods, this is fairly small area. Rue Princesse Caroline, the main street, is just 250 meters long, and has several attractive side-streets with more restaurants and shops. So you can easily cover this in a couple of hours – enough time to eat and have a look around.
It is such a charming section and yet many visitors never even get here in their eagerness to see the casino, and the shops around the casino, and the gardens, which are very beautiful. And then they want to go up on The Rock, where we're going soon, to see the palace and the Old Town. They kind of overlook this middle part of the country.
And there's more to see right here beyond Princesse Charlotte Street. At the north end of the pedestrian zone you'll find the main street of downtown Monaco – it's rue Grimaldi, with a whole lot more shops that will keep some people very busy.
We've had a good look at the casino area and this downtown, and now we're visiting the other most important part of Monaco, the Old Town up on the hill, called The Rock.
The Old Town is just as attractive in its walls and buildings as any of the other rock villages of the Riviera. There are three main pedestrian streets that run in parallel out from the Place du Palais, and they are crisscrossed by some narrow alleys that tie it all together, all around the Cathedral.

Monako (Monaco-Ville, Monte Carlo, La Condamine)

Monaco is the second smallest country in the world; only Vatican City is smaller. Monaco is also the world's second smallest monarchy, and is the most densely populated country in the world. The state consists of only one municipality. There is no geographical distinction between the State and City of Monaco, although responsibilities of the government and of the municipality are different. According to the constitution of 1911, the principality was subdivided into three municipalities: Monaco-Ville, Monte Carlo, La Condamine.

Visit La Condamine in Monaco, The French Rivera

One day in Monaco - Top Attractions - Places to visit

One day in Monaco - Top Attractions - Places to visit
Monaco may be the world’s second tiniest independent city-state on France’s Mediterranean coastline, but that doesn’t stop it from being a great place to visit. Long considered the playground of the rich and famous, Monaco is best known for those huge yachts in the harbour, the glamorous casinos in Monte-Carlo, the royal heritage of the Grimaldi family and its position on the annual Formula 1 race circuit. Yes it is expensive so base yourself outside of Monaco and visit on a day trip from more budget friendly locations, such as Nice and Menton in France, and San Remo in Italy. There’s plenty to see and do in Monaco with a good blend of historical sights and modern culture.

A tasty trip to Monaco's historic market

The beating heart of the Principality, located on the Place d'Armes, the Condamine market is a friendly place where life is good. Let's meet its customers and shopkeepers.

Jardin Exotique de Monaco in La Condamine, Monaco

Major tourist attraction, the course of the Exotic Garden is dotted with information that allows neophytes to become familiar with the plants present, often poorly known to the general public. It also offers an exceptional panorama of Monaco and the Côte d'Azur and spectacular blooms practically all year round. From June to September exhibitions are held in the Marcel Kroenlein hall and a sculpture exhibition is held outdoors each year.

This garden was inaugurated in 1933 by Prince Louis II and enjoys an exceptional microclimate with 2400 hours of annual sun. There is a wide variety of plants from South America , the West Indies, Africa and Mexico , some of which can reach astonishing sizes. The greenhouses of the Botanical Center are home to a large collection of succulent plants, particularly from the cacti family. In the spring and summer, you will be able to admire all sorts of cactus flowers in the garden paths, which will give way to Euphorbia in autumn and Aloe in winter. Built on the side of rock faces, this garden also offers a magnificent panorama of the Principality of Monaco. It also houses the Cave of the Observatory and the Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology . The latter presents the major stages of the history of humanity in the Albert I Hall and collections from local excavations in the Rainier III Hall. To see: The cacti in bloom in the spring. The panoramic view of the Principality. The Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology. The Cave of the Observatory.

The Exotic Garden - in the sense of distant - Monaco was inaugurated in 1933. It is one of the most prestigious of the Côte-d'Azur. The garden is organized into a series of terraces and brings together outdoors a large variety of so-called succulent plants such as cacti or cactus.United States , Mexico, Central and South America, South Africa, Eastern and Arabian Peninsula. Despite their extravagant forms, all these cacti are fully-fledged plants that regularly produce flowers to reproduce. In addition, the garden offers a beautiful opening on Corsica , there in the distance.

Tour the terraced Jardin Exotique de Monaco atop the town's steep hill on a clear day to see a large collection of succulents and cacti. With extensive views over Monaco that can be seen from many vantage points, the garden offers more than botanical attractions. Broken up into smaller gardens, each terrace contains plantings that group similar plants together. Key attractions include the giant flowering succulents--spectacular even when not in flower--a shady area with a pond and waterfall, and the underground cathedral--a large, underground cave filled with stalactites and stalagmites.

Monaco sits on the glamorous French Riviera and is known for being a small principality headed by the Prince of Monaco. The principality stretches for two square kilometers but what it may lack in size it certainly makes up for in style. This is one of the most affluent spots in the world as well as being blessed with an abundance of nature.

Welcome to Things To Do Channel your online travel guide, we’re happy to help on your travels around the globe so be sure to subscribe and don't forget to ring the bell to be updated on our latest videos.

Here are 5 things to do in Monaco

Tour the Prince's Palace of Monaco
Monaco is known for being a principality and you can see this first hand at the Prince's Palace of Monaco .
The palace sits high above Monaco and dates from the 13th century when it would have been a Genoese fortress. You can visit the palace when the Prince is not in residence, and an easy way to tell is to look for the flag in the main tower. If it is raised then it means that the Prince is at home. Some of the highlights of a visit include the gallery modeled in the Italianate style, as well as the Blue Room which is known for its blue and gold decorations. There is also an ornate Throne Room and a Palatine Chapel.

Visit the Monte Carlo Casino

The Casino de Monte Carlo is one of the most famous casinos in the world, particularly as it was built in the flamboyant Beaux Arts style in 1893. The marble atrium is similarly lavish in style and you will find 28 onyx columns that welcome you to the Gaming Rooms. Fans of James Bond are certain to enjoy the scenery, as this is said to have been the setting for the James Bond novel Casino Royale. There are different gaming rooms here that are decorated in a variety of themes, but make sure you look up and take in the chandeliers and the stunning artwork as you try your luck.

Walk around Jardin Exotique

Located in Fontvieille just outside of the city center is the Jardin Exotique. This garden sits high on a towering bluff that looks out over the ocean and you will find lush surroundings coupled with stunning vistas. The garden first opened its doors in 1933 and you will find a surprising mix of plants including African and Latin American species that grow here due to the warm weather. Tour Monaco Harbor

Located at the base of Monaco’s famous blustery cliffs is the main harbor of Monaco. Yachts bob on the water and the harbor, which is also known as Port de la Condamine, dates from 1901. The Prince’s main yacht is located here as well as those of many moneyed Monaco residents, so this is a top spot to check out these amazing vessels, even if you don’t get to go aboard. There are also a range of eateries and cafes here which mean that you can have a snack while enjoying the vistas over the water.
