Kashgar, Xinjiang???????? Real Ambience in Lively Uyghur Bazaar (4K UHD)

Kashgar is an oasis city in the Tarim Basin region of Southern Xinjiang. It is one of the westernmost cities of China, near the border with Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Pakistan. With a population of over 500,000, Kashgar has served as a trading post and strategically important city on the Silk Road between China, the Middle East and Europe for over 2,000 years, making it one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the World.
At the convergence point of widely varying cultures and empires, Kashgar has been under the rule of the Chinese, Turkic, Mongol and Tibetan empires. The city has also been the site of a number of battles between various groups of people on the steppes.
Now administered as a county-level unit, Kashgar is the administrative center of Kashgar Prefecture, which has an area of 162,000 km2 (63,000 sq mi) and a population of approximately 4 million as of 2010. The city itself has a population of 506,640, and its urban area covers 15 km2 (5.8 sq mi), though its administrative area extends over 555 km2 (214 sq mi). The city was made into a Special Economic Zone in 2010, the only city in western China with this distinction. Kashgar also forms a terminus of the Karakoram Highway, whose reconstruction is considered a major part of the multibillion-dollar China–Pakistan Economic Corridor.

Xinjiang Roadtrip on the Stunning Highway 216

Josh goes off the beaten path in Xinjiang, China on his trip from Urumqi to Korla, exploring the gorgeous (but bumpy!) mountain pass. Read more:

If you're looking to travel to Xinjiang in the near future, check out Josh's best-selling travel guide to the region:

*****************************

There are a number of ways to get from Urumqi to Korla in China's Xinjiang region. You can fly, take a train...or drive. Over the past few years the government has invested heavily into infrastructure, building smooth highways that go around the TianShan mountains to make the trip between the two cities quick and easy.

Before this highway, however, drivers had to take the unpaved Highway 216 which climbs over the TianShan instead of around it. It's a shorter route but it takes longer. Thankfully, the scenery more than makes up for the trouble.

Watch as Josh takes us on a drive along scenic Highway 216, exploring gorgeous mountain views, glaciers and even wildlife on the road!

Is Xinjiang China's Most Dangerous Province?

Join YPT in the deserts and oasis towns of China’s Far West!

From the ancient city of Kashgar, through small Uyghur towns on the southern Silk Road, we cross the Taklamakan Desert to Turpan, the lowest city in China at 142m below sea level.

The Xinjiang Far West tour starts in the historic city of Kashgar, closer geographically to Tehran and Damascus than to Beijing, a border town between China and the Central Asian states of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, and the site where traditional Uyghur life hits the Chinese state head-on. We visit the old town, livestock market and main bazaar and, being YPT, can’t miss out on the huge statue of Chairman Mao in People’s Square.

We check out small Uyghur towns that haven’t been developed along the Kashgar model, yet, and skirt the Taklamakan Desert as we go. On the north of the desert, we spend a day at Kuqa’s amazing Thousand Buddha caves, reminding us that before the spread of Islam southern Xinjiang was the place where Buddhism entered China.

Lastly, we hang out in the Turpan, China’s Death Valley, the lowest and hottest place in China. In the countryside outside the city, it’s surprisingly green though and we wander the ruins of ancient cities and stop in a Uyghur holy village for lunch.

If you’d like to see some more Central Asia while you’re here, you could join us for the Silk Road Summer Tour, which visits Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan as well or simply the Kyrgyzstan Independence Day and Xinjiang Combo to combine the best of these two locations and one of China’s least travelled border crossings.

Kuqa, Xinjiang???????? Ancient Uyghur City on the Silk Road (4K UHD)

Kuqa is a county-level city in Aksu Prefecture, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China. Other names and variants of spelling of Kuqa are Kocha, Kuchu, Kuchar, Kuchi, Kuchel, K'u-ch'e-chen, K'u-ch'e-hsien, Kuga, Kucha and K'u-ch'e. It was once the homeland of the ancient Buddhist Kingdom of Kucha.

Geography
The city is located at the southern periphery of the Tian Shan range, the northern portion of the Tarim Basin, and the centre of the autonomous region. It occupies part of the northeastern portion of Aksu Prefecture, bordering Xinhe County, Xayar County, and Luntai County, Heiing County, and Lopnur County in Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Region.

????Climate
Kuqa has a continental desert climate (Köppen BWk), with an average annual precipitation of 74.6 millimetres (2.94 in), a majority of which occurs in summer. The monthly 24-hour average temperature ranges from −7.2 °C (19.0 °F) in January to 25.3 °C (77.5 °F) in July, and the annual mean is 11.29 °C (52.3 °F). The frost-free period lasts for 266 days on average.[citation needed] With monthly percent possible sunshine ranging from 54% in March to 69% in September and October, sunshine is abundant and the city receives 2,712 hours of bright sunshine annually.

????Subashi Temple
The Subashi Temple is a ruined Buddhist temple near Kucha in the Taklamakan Desert, on the ancient Silk Road, in Xinjiang, Western China. The city was partly excavated by the Japanese archaeologist Count Otani.

Other famous sites nearby are the Ah-ai Grotto, Kizilgaha caves, the Kumtura Caves, the Kizil Caves and the Simsim caves. These sites and others along the Silk Road were inscribed in 2014 on the UNESCO World Heritage List as the Silk Roads: the Routes Network of Chang'an-Tianshan Corridor World Heritage Site.

A sarira, a Buddhist relic box of the 6th–7th century, discovered in Subashi shows Central Asian men in long tunics, reminiscent of other friezes which have been called Tocharian.

The Witch of Subashi is another famous archaeological artifact, the mummy of a woman with a huge pointed hat, thought to be a representative of early Caucasian populations who lived in the region around the beginning of our era.

????Kizil Caves
The Kizil Caves are a set of Buddhist rock-cut caves located near Kizil Township in Baicheng County, Aksu Prefecture, Xinjiang, China. The site is located on the northern bank of the Muzat River 65 kilometres (75 km by road) west of Kucha. This area was a commercial hub of the Silk Road. The caves have an important role in Central Asian art and in the Silk Road transmission of Buddhism, and are said to be the earliest major Buddhist cave complex in China, with development occurring between the 3rd and 8th centuries CE. The caves of Kizil are the earlier of their type in China, and their model was later adopted in the construction of Buddhist caves further east. Another name for the site has been Ming-oi, although this term is now mainly used for the site of Shorchuk to the east.

The Kizil Caves were inscribed in 2014 on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the Silk Roads: the Routes Network of Chang'an-Tianshan Corridor World Heritage Site.

Beijiang | Journeys on the Silk Road | 梦境北疆 | Xinjiang, China 新疆 - A Cinematic Experience

Beijiang 北疆 Our journey on the Silk Road, a cinematic experience.

In the ancient world, the Silk Road was a network of trading routes that connected Asia and Europe. At its peak, the journey stretched from Japan to the Mediterranean Sea. Although our methods of transportation have modernized since then, the majestic wonders that were part of the Silk Road can still be experienced today.

This was a 11 days journey through China to walk through the footsteps of history. From Urumqi to Yining, our minds was blown off by the amazing sunset and magnificent landscape awaiting. Beijiang borders the countries of Mongolia, Russia and Kazakhstan while the Karakoram, Kunlun, and Tian Shan mountain range occupy much of it's region. If you are intending to visit somewhere tranquil and dreamy with cool weather, Beijiang is the trip for you. The cool weather allows you get to wear your beautiful long red dress or manly suit while you trek along Kanas Lake via the boardwalk.

逛喀什古城,千万别错过新疆学生的放学场景,太热闹了 | 喀什旅游 | 新疆旅遊 | Travel in China
