Ep 7 Exploring Rajahmundry | Papikondalu, Cotton barrage, Sitara hotel, kadiyam nursery | AP tourism
This video is about the 7th and 8th days of our Andhra tour. In this video you will see places to visit in and around Rajahmundry (Rajamahendravaram), following are the activities which we had done throughout these 2 days.
Day 1 - 16th Jan 2023
On this day we traveled from Rajahmundry to Papikondalu which is about 40 km away. We did this tour with Punnami Tourism.
We went boating here.
Ticket: Rs 1300 including meals plus To and Fro travel on bus.
This was the full activity. On the boat ride there were many activities going on to keep the tourists engaged.

Day 2 - 17th Jan 2023
Pushkar Ghat: We started our day 2 from here. From the ghat one can also see the Rajamahendravaram Godavari Arch Bridge. Boating activities are also done here in the evening.
Ticket: Rs 70 per person.
RK Tiffins: We had breakfast here.
Meal: Rs 40
Unlimited Meal: Rs 90
Timing: 6 am to 11 am
5 pm to 11 pm
CocoTime Juice Corner: It is near the Jagruthi pathology. You can see many coconut juice shops here.

Sri Kandukuri Veeresalingam House: Sri Kandukuri Veeresalingam Pantulu Garu (16 April 1848 - 27 May 1919) was a social reformer who encouraged the education of women and the remarriage of widows which was not supported by society during his time. He is often considered Raja Ram Mohan Roy of Andhra.
Timing: 10:30 am–5:30 pm
Friday is closed.
Sitara Coffee House: We had lunch here. They serve good andhra food.
Meal: Rs 179
Cotton Museum: The Museum narrates the construction of the present Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage constructed with the advanced engineering skill. It shows how the great Engineer Sir Arthur Cotton during those olden days constructed the mighty anicut across Godavari river and converted the lands of East and West Godavari Districts as very fertile which helps a lot of farmers.
Timing: 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
Cotton Barrage: It was constructed by British engineer Sir Arthur Cotton in 1852. The plan was to divert the flood water of the Godavari to irrigation canals for crops in the delta.
Sri Satyadeva Nursery: Kadiyam Nursery is one of the best places to find unique plants because it has a wide variety of species and varieties that are not available anywhere else. We also saw a variety of plants here like - Bougainvillea Multicolor plant, Black Alocasia, Aralia Nuda Dwarf, Lucky Ficus and many more. My tourists come here and purchase plants too.
Pushkar Ghat Arti: In the evening we returned to the Pushkar Ghat and enjoyed a boat ride then attended the Ghat Arti there and ended our day.

Kotilingeshwara Temple - Rajahmundry
This is the point where people catch a ferry to cross the mighty Godavari River. It also has steps that provide access to the bathing ghats, which dot the banks of the river. Kotilingalarevu is home to the Kotilingeshwara Temple, which was constructed between the 10th and 11th centuries.
According to local legends, when Lord Indra was cursed by Gautama, a sage, he made a Shivalinga and anointed with the waters from ten million rivers to free himself from the curse. This is the reason why the temple is known as Kotilingeshwara Temple.
Another legend claims that the site of the temple used to home to 10 million Shivalingas; while one more legend says that the temple site was the place where Ravana, the demon king, used to pray to Lord Shiva.

We started Andhra pradesh tour from Visakapatnam and moved towards Araku, Lambasingi then Annavaram, kakinada and finally reached Rajahmundry.

This video was shot on 18th Jan 2023, below are the activities we did throughout the day.
Vijayawada Hotel in Rajahmundry - we had 3 items here for breakfast - Rs 45 - Aaviri Kudumu, Idly, Onion Bhaji.
Then proceeded for Atreyapuram - which is 25 km from Rajahmundry.
Enroute to Atreyapuram, we passed by this barrage.
Cotton Barrage: It was constructed by British engineer Sir Arthur Cotton in 1852. The plan was to divert the flood water of the Godavari to irrigation canals for crops in the delta.
Atreyapuram - This village is known for Poothraekulu, there are about 1000 to 1500 ladies who makes & about 4000 sells Pootharekulu. When I visited Hyderabad 4 years ago, since then I was very curious to see the making of the Pootharekulu. After seeing & tasting it, Single sheet pootharekulu - Rs 15 & Double sheet - Rs 25
If you want to order, they also have a website.
Vindu Restaurant - We proceeded to have the pot biryani in Ravulapalem, They are specialize in pot biryani, if you want to have Chicken pot biryani - Rs 900 & Mutton Pot biryani - Rs 1100, you need to tell them 45 min in advance or another option is to have Dum biryani which is served in Pot - Rs 270 for chicken biryani.
Haritha Coconut country resort in Dindi - They have different rooms, we book the double occupancy at Rs 3840. Boating charges - Rs 80 per person. This resort is run by Andhra Pradesh government.

This video is about how one day trip for Rajahmundry. Rajahmundry also known as as Rajamahendravaram is a city in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is the seventh most populated city in the AP. The city is known for its floriculture, history, culture, agriculture, economy, tourism, and its heritage. It is known as the Cultural Capital of Andhra Pradesh.
The city's name was derived from Raja Raja Narendra, the ruler of Chalukya dynasty of 11th century who ruled over the city. In 2015, the city was renamed to Rajamahendravaram from the earlier name of Rajahmundry.
PS:- if you are coming from Vijayawada side then come by Train it takes 2.30 hr.by bus it takes 4 hrs
How to Reach Rajahmundry
By Rail
Indian Railway Runs Major trains through Rajahmundry. It is located on the Howrah-Chennai main line of South Central Railway zone. Godavari and Kadiyam, Kovvur are other railway stations serving the city.

Rajahmundry is very well connected to the state and the rest of India with a network of state and national highways. NH 16 passes through the city. APSRTC,TSRTC runs buses from Hyderabad, Tirupathi, Kurnool and Majority of Cities in AP and Telangana.

Rajahmundry Airport is situated at Madhurapudi, in the outskirts of the city.Currently, Rajahmundry airport serves direct flights to and fro the destinations namely Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Tirupati and Visakhapatnam. There is a demand for direct flight services to Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata.
How to Plan Rajahmundry Trip
Reach Rajahmundry by 5.30AM if you are planning to visit Papikondalu. from Rajahmundry AP Toursim Operates Boats for Papikondalu. Buses from Rajahmundry starts at 7.30AM and reach Gandipochama by Bus from there via Boat.
Budget for Papikondalu trip:
Rajahmundry to Papikondalu round trip - Rs.1200(with Breakfast and Lunch)
Gandipochamma to Papikondalu round trip - Rs.1000(with Breakfast and Lunch)

On Day 2 or Day 1(those not visiting Papikondalu)
Start your Trip with Darshan of Lord kalabhairava temple which is located in Kotilingala Revu on bank of River Godavari. Please note that kalabhairava temple is not open for all days. Kalabhairava temple opens on Sunday, Full Moon day, Half moon day and kalabhairava temple timings are 7.30AM to 11.45AM.
kalabhairava temple is located at 2KM from Railway Station and 1 Km from Godavari Railway Station. Auto Fare is Rs.20.
A fact about Kotilingala Revu Rajahmundry is it is lengthiest Ghat in India with 1.3KM
After visiting kalabhairava temple visit Kovvuru or Godavari Road Cum Railway Bridge which is 3rd longest and largest bridge in India with a distance of 4.2KM
After that move to ISKCON which is South India's 2nd largest temple then Kailsagiri which is biggest graveyard in India.
From there take a Auto to dowleswaram barrage which was built in 19th Century. next to that dowleswaram museum or cotton museum there
After covering the places in Rajahmundry you have two options either to visit Koringa or Korangi Mangroove forest or Annavaram Temple.
At the time of shooting this video i prefer to visit Annavaram Temple and Korangi Mangrooves does not have any Birds or Species so better to skip this and Catch a bus to Annavaram.
From Rajahmundry to Annavaram distance is 60KM and journey time is approx 3hrs.
annavaram satyanarayana swamy temple closes by 6PM so reach as early as possible.
annavaram satyanarayana swamy temple can be reached via Auto or by walk from Bus Station.If you reach annavaram satyanarayana swamy temple by Auto it takes 5 min and by walk there are around 400 steps which takes 30 minutes.Auto fare is Rs.20 pax one way.

Papikondalu Part 1, Rajahmundry
Best time to visit Papikondalu is October to January. Bangalore to Rajahmundry is about 900 km. Papi Hills is a scenic gorge located on a section of the Godavari river in the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, India.
Rajahmundry, originally known as Rajamahendri, is a pilgrimage place in Andhra Pradesh. The destination offers number of sightseeing options to tourists including temples, museums, hills, bridges and many more. Various temples can be visited while in Rajahmundry such as Markandeya Temple and Iskcon Temple. Markandeya Temple was earlier a mosque but archaeological surveys proved that it is a Shiva Temple. Iskon Temple is another famous temple, which is situated on the banks of Godavari River and was built by the Iskon group. Tourists can also plan a visit to Pattiseema and Papi Hills(Papikondalu) that are the popular picnic spots in Rajahmundry. These sites have beautiful waterfalls and thick forests that attract visitors in large number. Besides this, Papi Hills is thronged by tourists as boat rides are offered through the narrowest width of river Godavari.
Besides these temples, Kotilingeswara Temple and Sri Sarangadhareswara Swami Temple are prominent religious sites. There are many bathing ghats located near Kotilingeswara Temple that attracts many devotees.
It hosts holy congregations called Pushkaram held once every 12 years and considered auspicious to take sin-ridding holy dips.
Papi Kondalu is a hill range in Khammam district of Andhra Pradesh India. Papi kondalu are distributed among Khammam East Godavari and West Godavari districts. The entrance of Papi kondalu can be seen from Koruturu (West Godavari District). The original name for this hill range was ‘Papidi Kondalu’. Papidi is a rough translation for partition in Telugu. Since this range looks like a well designed partition that splits river Godavari, this name was coined. There is also another idea that the range looks like a partition of a typical Indian Woman's hair line. In due course, it settled for ‘Papi Kondalu. Papikondalu hills are one of the most visited tourist attraction in Andhra Pradesh. Punnami Tourism and many other private tourism corporations operate boat tourism corporations operate boat journeys on the Godavari river which passes through Papi Hills. There is also a night stay facility in Kollur village which is in the mid of hills completely covered by forests. The scenary, including the waterfalls at Munivaatam, and the peaceful atmosphere at this tribal area make this area a tourist attraction. The idol of Shiva under serpent shade was installed in Munivaatam of Khammam district. The village Perantala palli is in this area. Early summer months i.e. March and April are the best times to visit this place. .Papi kondalu has a wide varieties of natural vegetation and wildlife, that spreads across the three districts of Andhra pradesh. Papi hills lies in Eastern Ghats. Papi kondalu wild life sanctuary is shelter for animals including tigers, panthers, antelopes, hyenas, jackals, spotted deers and many types of birds.

As the hills become closer and closer to the visitor, the width of the mighty Godavari becomes narrower. In accordance with this view resembling the middle partition of a woman's hair, it was initially named as 'Papidi' Kondalu- Paidi in Telugu means the middle partition of a woman’s hair. Later, it came to be known as Papikondalu in the local language. The river narrowing, its twists and turns along with the Papi Hills form a breathtaking visual experience.
Its beauty is often compared to that of Kashmir as the area around the ranges is quaint and bountiful with nature. The ranges also boast of waterfalls at Munivaatnam.
The best time to visit Papi Kondalu is from October to January while the Peak Season is from November to December. Usually Papikondalu is visited from Rajahmundry as a day trip or two day trip with night stay at Kollur Camp.
The driving distance or the travel distance between Bhadrachalam to Papikondalu is 198 KM and 236 meters. The mile based, road distance between these two travel point is 123.2 miles.
