We did an Albanian food tour here in beautiful Korca, Albania.
Albania has THE BEST FOOD...
There is an incredible array of restaurants and dishes to choose from here in this city. The places we went to are listed below!!

Traditional Food of Albania
The dishes of Albania have most of their roots with the ancient Ottoman Empire. The combination of super fertile land, proximity to the sea, and blurred cultural lines with their neighbours have culminated in a modern cuisine that is both diverse and simple. Modern day influences include Greece, Italy, and Turkey.
Meat and vegetables are the staples, along with stews, pickled cabbage, feta cheese, breads, rice, and smoked meat. The most popular veg grown are eggplants, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, olives (which accompany most meals), and legumes. Very Mediterranean indeed! Vegetarians be wary. There are a lot of salads in your future – luckily, there’s plenty of fresh produce to enjoy.
Regional Differences
When talking about food, travellers can divide the country into three regions. In the north, the staple is ground corn. Not only is it used for most breads, it’s also versatile enough to make both sweet and salty dishes. The climate is good there which means there is a variety of fresh vegetables and fruit. You’ll see mostly potatoes, carrots, cabbage, kidney beans, onions, garlic, and walnuts. Traditional dishes in the north include meat and vegetable casseroles, pasta, chicken, rice, sujuk (similar to salami), and petula (fried dough made sweet or savoury).
Central Albania has the kind of soil that can grow just about anything. Poultry features heavily in dishes here – duck, goose, chicken, and turkey are all raised here. Fishermen catch flounder, perch, gray mullet, and sole in the Adriatic Sea. You’ll find egg, spinach, or cabbage cakes, nettle cakes, liver, and curd. Tav elbasani is a highlight you don’t want to miss. It’s made by baking meat into yogurt.
Most of the cattle are raised in the southern region of Albania, which means that dairy products often take centre stage in dishes. It’s well known for fantastic hard and soft cheeses, as well as kefir so thick that you could cut it with a knife. The climate is warmer here and so you’ll find citrus and olive growth throughout the area.
Other regions worth mentioning are the Berat region where you’ll find the Balkans largest fig plantations. The fig jam and dried figs always make popular presents. Myzeqe produces turkey and Albanians say the turkey and mash (a kind of stew) is the best here. All along the Albanian Riviera you’ll find fantastic seafood options year round. Whatever you’re in the mood for, you can be certain it was caught fresh that morning.
It’s worth mentioning that most of Albania is very mountainous – about 70% in fact. The villages located in the higher elevations make use of animal organs. In many places, intestines and the head are considered delicacies.
We love Korce so much that we have booked an apartment here for the MONTH! So expect a lot more content from Albania!

Life in Albania 2021..
Life in Albania is.. different.
Life in Albania is.. GREAT..
We have been living in Korçë, Albania now for 3 weeks and we will be here until October 4th when we plan to leave to a new continent!
We take you in this video on a walking tour of the most interesting parts of Korçë city and show you what exactly we do, most days while we live here.
Korçë is packed full of amazing restaurants, cafes and historic museums & monuments.
We started our day off at the gym. We use the gym named Power Gym here in Korçë, because it is very cheap to use and has all the equipment that we need.
Next up, we go for coffee and a healthy juice in the Earth Bar which you can find on the Pedonale or the main street in the centre of Korçë. This bar has smoothies, juices and great coffee for very cheap prices.
Then we head to the Red Tower, which is a central monument that gives its users a spectacular 360 degree view of Korçë and the beautiful mountains that surround the city. It only costs 50 LEKE per person to head up to the top, which is around 30 cents (euro)
Next we decided to grab some food in the Grill Vasport which is a local grill & fast food restaurant that is located right next to the Pedonale or main street of Korçë. This restaurant has tons of grilled meat options for very little cost and the taste is amazing.
Finally we then took a stroll down Bulevardi Republika which is a key street to know when you come to Korçë as it connects most of the main attractions of the city itself. This stroll lead us to continue towards the hillside neighbourhoods of Korçë where you will find the wealthier end of the population. We then hiked our way up to the Martyrs Cemetery which is located atop a hill overlooking Korçë city and is a monument and mural for fallen Albanian heroes and soldiers throughout World War 2.

The cultural capital of Albania in the southeast, Korçë is completely off the tourist trail with no hostels available yet for backpackers to stay in.
The European Union has recently declared Korçë as an important future economic center and tourist destination so it will be interesting to see how this authentic Albanian town develops over the next 10 years...

Renting a car in Albania is the best way to discover what this beautiful country has to offer! Distances are not long and you can literally be enjoying the beach one day, and go rafting in the mountains the next day.
Another reason why an Albanian roadtrip is a great idea is because there's not much to do in the little towns, so spending two nights at each is the perfect way to see a lot in little time and have all kinds of different experiences. Trust us, you will not be bored!
And don't forget that the bus system in Albania still has a long way to go, so better to have your own private transportation if your budget allows!

Road trip to Korca Albania (Trying some interesting food along the way.)
WE KNEW WE WERE GOING TO LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!!We finished our time in Tirana and headed on a road trip to Korca to see the eastern part of Albania. We stopped in a few places and had one of the interesting food. It was clear that this was a start of a awesome road trip and we could not wait to see what is next. Follow us along as we go into the lesser known parts of Albania.
Korce Albania - Only a few Tourists Visit this Great Town
In this video we take a quick look around the Albanian town of Korce.
Korçe has a brewery that serves a great lunch together of course with some beers.
In high season you can get a guided tour every hour on the hour.
The bazar has recently been completely renovated and now consists of approximately 80% restaurants and cafes and 20% souvenir shops.
On the main square is a watch tower, which is open to the public (admission 50 Lek).
The tower offers great views of the city, which can be extra nice during sunset.
