Notodden is a city and municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Øst-Telemark. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Notodden.
Kongsberg is a historical mining town and municipality in Buskerud, Viken county, Norway. The city is located on the river Numedalslågen at the entrance to the valley of Numedal. Kongsberg has been a centre of silver mining, arms production and forestry for centuries, and is the site of high technology industry including the headquarters of Norway's largest defence contractor Kongsberg Gruppen.
Notodden was separated from the municipality of Heddal in 1913 to become a separate city and municipality. On 1 January 1964, the rural municipalities of Heddal and Gransherad were merged into Notodden to form a new enlarged municipality.

Kongsberg Norway - City Tour & Drone, 4k
The town of Kongsberg is comfortably located among the mountains of the picturesque Norwegian region of Buskerud, on the banks of the turbulent Numedalslågen River.
The town was originally called Konningsberg, meaning King's Mountain, and was founded in 1624 by King Christian IV for ore mining. Kongsberg Silver Mines (Kongsberg Sølvverk) is Norway's oldest and most famous mining company.
Mining stopped only in 1957, and during that time about 1,350 tons of silver were mined. In 1770, about four thousand people worked in the mines, that is, then Kongsberg was the second most populous city in Norway after Bergen.
Also in 1686, a mint was established in Kongsberg, which to this day is the only enterprise minting Norwegian coins.
Later, after the decline in silver mining and the devastating fire of 1810, in 1814 the government decided to locate the arms industry in Kongsberg, which is still the main enterprise in the city.
And just outside the city, there is a ski resort. Here you can ski on 10 slopes with a total length of about 10 kilometers. Also at the foot, there are 55 kilometers of prepared trails for cross-country skiing.
We went for a walk into the city before Catholic Christmas. By the way, December 19th was the winter solstice, that is, the shortest daylight hours! Which greatly limited our shooting time, but at the same time gave the film a nice warm tone even in the middle of the day!
The city is located on two banks of Norway's second-largest river, Numedalslågen. And every time we crossed the bridge, we admired the stormy streams bursting out from under the openwork ice with a roar. Within the city limits, there are 3 waterfalls on the river, one of which has a hydroelectric power station (Gamlebrofoss kraftverk). Its height is 14 meters and construction was completed in 1971.
Also walking along the river bank, we came across beautiful sculptures: the Glass Tree (Glasstreet av Vincent van Leeuwen) and the Mirror Church (Glasskirken) in winter they have a special magic and fit perfectly into the frozen nature.
The bright spot of the city is the Clarion Collection Hotel Kongsberg, built in 2022, as well as a shopping center and apartment buildings. Kongsberg railway station has been in operation since 1871 and from here you can take a direct train to Oslo in 1 hour and 20 minutes!

A trip to Kongsberg, Norway! ++Nybrufossen hydropower plant, Lågdalsmuseet, etc | Pinayodyssey
It was a short trip to Kongsberg, but was a good one! Visited the Nybrufoss hydropower plant which uses water from the 3rd longest river in Norway, the Numedalslågen. Then, we visited the Lågdalsmuseet, an open-air museum with 33 traditional houses and farmy animals to pet! The Silver Mines was closed, so I only have a pic of the facade.
Kongsberg is a lovely and lively city!

Kongsberg (originally Konningsberg ) is a city municipality and historic mountain town in the Buskerud landscape in present-day Viken county . It is located at the top of Lågendalen and at the bottom of Numedal . It borders Flesberg in the north , Øvre Eiker and Holmestrand in the east, Skien , Siljan and Larvik in the south, and Notodden and Midt-Telemark municipalities in the west. Kongsberg has 27,013 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2016). The neighboring towns are Rjukan ,Notodden , Hokksund and Drammen .
Kongsberg was established as an industrial town based on silver mines that were established in 1623; from 1683 Kongsberg was one of two mountain towns in Norway (next to Røros ). Kongsberg was incorporated into Buskerud county in 1760. Kongberg was Norway's largest mining community and the country's oldest industrial town, and was Norway's second largest town in the middle of the 18th century. The traditions from Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk have given the city significant professional environments in the production of high-tech weapons, car parts and equipment for shipping, aviation and the oil and gas industry. The Kongsberg industry has an annual turnover of close to NOK 40 billion . The largest companies are Kongsberg Gruppen( Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace and Kongsberg Maritime ), FMC Technologies and Kongsberg Automotive .
Jonsknuten , locally known as Knuten , is the highest mountain in Kongsberg municipality. It measures 904 meters above sea level. Jonsknuten is a popular hiking destination. At the Sølvverket by Saggrenda , west of the center of Kongsberg, there is a road to Knutehytta . From here you go to the end of the dirt road, where a steep and rocky path takes you up to the top. There is also a cable car from the end of the road to the top. The cable car is used for maintenance of the antenna system. There is also a fluorspar mine here .
Around the top on the north, west and south sides is the Barmen nature reserve , established in 2005.
At the top stands the 92 meter high television tower Jonsknuten main transmitter , which was built in 1960-1961, with transmitters for, among other things, FM and DAB radio, TV , GSM and health radio.

The church was built with galleries, a chancel and cross naves – an architectural style that was unique in Europe during the Middle Ages. This style has come to be known as Nummedals-type. Decoration are from different periods. Nore is decorated with tendril and animal carvings. Animal characters featured include dragons and lions.
The church has a central mast, that was originally the support for a tower, mostly likely containing church bells. The walls and ceiling of the interior are decorated with murals, among them scenes from the Bible presented as riddles. The church has been remodeled several times, with many original parts are preserved. The church was partly rebuilt in the 1600s and 1700s. The chancel was replaced in 1683 and the spokes of the nave in the first half of 18th century. The church received a new roof in 1730. Comprehensive repair was carried out in 1927.

(EN) The silver mines of Kongsberg, in Buskerud county in Norway, constitute the largest mining field in Norway, with over 80 different mines. It was the largest pre-industrial working place in Norway, with over 4,000 workers at its peak in the 1770s and supplied over 10% of the gross national product of the Danish–Norwegian union during its 335-year-long history: over 450,000 man-years were expended in the production.
The town of Kongsberg houses the Norwegian Mining Museum, which houses collection of silver, tools, and machinery utilised by the miners, engineers, and doctors. Silver was first discovered between the 1 July and 5 July 1623. The story says that two small children - Helga and Jacob - were out shepherding their cattle at the top of Gruveåsen hill. They had an ox with them which scraped on the side of the mountain. They could see something shining and glimmering, and they picked it up and took it home to their father. Recognizing it as silver and quite valuable, he melted it and brought it to the town of Skien in Telemark county to sell it. In Skien he was arrested, the police finding it suspicious that someone would attempt to sell silver at such a low price.
Being convinced that he was a thief, he was given the choice between telling where he had found the silver, or being sentenced to hard labour. He chose to tell the authorities he had found the silver in Southern Sandsvær, which was the old name for Kongsberg. The king of Norway and Denmark at the time, Christian IV, came to Norway the following year and founded the town of Kongsberg in 1624.(Wikipedia).
