Best Places to Visit in Russia 2021 - Part 1

Great places to travel around Russia, where everyone should visit one day!

✦ Kazan (Republic of Tatarstan) / See How East Meets West!
- The most beautiful places in Russia are not necessarily hard to reach. A couple of hours by plane - and you are walking through the impressive Kazan

✦ Lake Baikal (Eastern Siberia) / Energize the world's deepest lake!
- Baikal is one of the best ideas where to relax in Russia in winter: at this time, the blue of the lake is almost more impressive than in summer!

✦ Khibiny (Kola Peninsula) / Cross the Arctic Circle!
- Khibiny is irresistible in the warm season. But in winter and early spring, there are all conditions for skiing and every chance to see the northern lights!

✦ Church of the Intercession on the Nerl (Bogolyubovo village, Vladimir region) /Swim up to the white stone church by motorboat or drive up by carriage
- The Church of the Intercession on the Nerl is one of the most beautiful holy places in Russia. Experienced travelers advise to come here both in winter and in summer: it is impossible to choose when the temple is more beautiful!

✦ Ergaki Natural Park (Western Sayan, Krasnoyarsk Territory) / Climb rocks without a special training
- Ergaki is a great place for hiking and recreation at any time of the year

✦ Lena Pillars (Banks of the Lena River, Yakutia) / To find trilobites!

✦ Plyos (Ivanovo region) / Wakes up the artist inside you!

✦ Mount Belukha (Altai Republic) / Find a place of power

And ... So many other amazing places which we will mention in our next videos

You CAN walk from US to Russia! The Diomedes, in the Bering Straight Alaska is rarely talked about.

Original vid posted to TikTok: @map_nerd - 20M liked it so figured I'd share with you too!...

You probably know that Alaska and Russia are relatively close – with just the Bering Sea between them, they’re only about 55 miles apart.

But there’s an American town that is much closer, just a couple miles from Russia. And In winter, they can actually walk there, but they don’t… I don’t think.

Diomede is an American town of about 100 people on a small island in the Bering Sea called Little Diomede Island.

It is one of the two Diomede Islands that sit about halfway between mainland Alaska and mainland Russia.

The western island – Big Diomede – is Russian. The eastern island – Little Diomede – is American. They are 2.5 miles apart. The only thing between them is water. In winter, the notoriously cold water freezes up, creating a 2.5 mile ice bridge that’s walkable. (I’m told it takes about a half hour). So technically you CAN walk from the US to Russia.

If you do, you also instantaneously step into the future bc Big Diomede is 21 hours ahead of Little Diomede. The international date line falls right smack between them so you can literally step a whole day ahead.

I like finding interesting things on maps. Hope you do too.

Murmansk (Russian: Му́рманск; IPA: [ˈmurmənsk]; Kildin Sami: Мурман ланнҍ; Northern Sami: Murmánska; Skolt Sami: Muurman) is a port city and the administrative center of Murmansk Oblast, Russia, located in the extreme northwest part of Russia, on the Kola Bay, an inlet of the Barents Sea on the northern shore of the Kola Peninsula, close to the Russia's borders with Norway and Finland.

Despite its extreme northern location above the Arctic Circle, Murmansk is in many ways similar to other Russian cities of its size, with highway and railway access to the rest of Europe, and the northernmost trolleybus system on Earth.

???????? TERIBERKA Tour: Arctic Edge of Russia (Budget Travel Russia) Murmansk World's Largest Arctic City

Known as the Edge of Russia, Teriberka is Russia's farthest north town accessible by vehicle. Its remoteness and accessibility makes this Barents Sea village intriguing to explore.

With its isolation and Arctic weather, Teriberka has economic and social challenges. Recent attempts are seeking to turn the village into a year-round tourist destination.

When much of Europe suffered through an unbearable heat wave in late August 2019, even the far reach of Russia's Arctic was not immune to this climate phenomenon. In Teriberka though, residents embraced summer's last golden rays of sunshine.

Embarking on a walking tour of Teriberka and its two villages, stroll with Matt as even in this desolation, he finds off-the-beaten track areas. On the road between Old and New Teriberka, the coastline contains a ship graveyard and the skeletons of many abandoned boats.

With the glorious weather, Matt observes locals at work, rest and play.

Questions Answered:
- where is the most accessible northern village in Russia?
- how warm does it get in the Russian Arctic?
- what activities are there in remote Russia?
- are there hotels in Teriberka?
- how to visit Teriberka?
