DruPal this time is off to a place that is yet untouched and trodden less. Saranda-the land of 700 hills is such a beautiful place located in Singbhum of Jharkhand. Asia's largest Sal forest comprising almost 820sq km Sarada is gifted with serenity.
To witness a red world within a world you have to come to Kiriburu and Meghataburu iron ore 200sq.km. wide. These places are under SAIL(Steel Authority of India Limited).

On day 3 of our Keonjhar tour we started from Keonjhar Panthanivas, on the way to Khandadhar nature camp we visited Sana ghagra waterfall then we visited Gonasika after that we visited Kanjipani Ghati of Eastern Ghat. Then we reached Khandadhar Nature camp. Khandadhar Nature camp is a beautiful place situated inside Unakoti Wildlife Sanctuary, Next day we visited Khandadhar Waterfall of Sundargarh then we visited Darjing. From Darjing we reached Barbil to catch our train Barbil Jan Shatabdi Express to reach Howrah.

The word ‘Kiri’ means ‘Elephant’ and ‘Buru’ means ‘Hill’ which rightfully describes Kiriburu as the ‘Hill of Elephants’ as it provides shelter to an enormous number of wild elephants.
Meghahatuburu, on the other hand, derives its name from the word ‘Meghata’ which means ‘Clouds’ thus citing it as a ‘Hill of Clouds’, as it remains covered under layers of clouds most time of the year. Meghahatuburu is also often addressed to as ‘Cherrapunji of Jharkhand’.

How is the weather at Kiriburu and Meghahatuburu?
Kiriburu and Meghahatuburu have mainly three seasons, winter, summer, and Rainy.
Winter stretches over the months of November to February and the temperature varies from 10 to 15-degree centigrades, making the months of December and January extremely cold.
Summer ranges between March to June with a temperature rising from 30 to 40-degree centigrade. The month of April and May are the hottest.
The rainy season starts from the month of July and prevails till the month of August with an average rainfall of 200-350 millimeters.

Saranda, the largest Sal (Shorea robusta) forest in Asia, stands proudly in the West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand and also stretches a little into the state of Odisha.
The forest covers an area of 820 sq km and is home to a huge variety of wild animals. A large part of the forest is under the iron ore mining project. Saranda forest remained out of the tourist limelight for long, irrespective of nurturing many amazing places of tourist interest within its belt. Saranda is said to be the land of seven hundred hills.

The Kiriburu Iron Ore Mines are owned by the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and are one of the largest iron ore mines in India. The village has a population of around 5,000 people and is surrounded by lush green forests and hills. The Kiriburu National Park is also located nearby, which is home to a variety of wildlife such as tigers, leopards, elephants, and deer.
