Tak-ma-doon tae Kilsyth
A walk up the Tak-ma-doon Road to a viewpoint at the highest location on that road, at 322 metres above sea-level. There, we ponder the origins of the name Tak-ma-doon, known on one old map as 'Takmidown', and then head west along an ancient track to the top of the small hill of Tomtain, at 453 metres above sea-level. The signposted path from there back to Kilsyth is impossible to locate and follow, and indeed no longer exists on modern Ordnance Survey maps, but in the end we do manage back to Kilsyth. Did the sun shine? You bet. A lovely hill-walk on a little Scottish hill that offers views over a huge area of Central Scotland.

Upwey is a residential suburb in hilly surrounds 34 km south-east of Melbourne and 2 km west of Belgrave.
Until the turn of the nineteenth century Upwey did not have a separate identity. In the middle 1890s the part of the locality was divided into ten-acre blocks as part of the ‘Scoresby’ village settlement scheme, which extended northwards to Ferny Creek. Notwithstanding the Scoresby appellation, Upwey was known as Mast Gully, after several ship masts had been cut from a gully in 1850. (Mast Gully Creek and Mast Gully Road remain.)
In 1897 three sisters, the Tullidges, bought a homestead and named it Upwey, after the English village on the River Wey. They persuaded the Victorian Railways to approve a stopping place near their house, and the name Upwey was given to it. The name was adopted by common usage, the Upwey Church of England being built in 1904 (now in the neighbouring locality of Tecoma). The post office was built in 1911 in a newly constructed store.

Hiking in Melbourne - Kokoda Track Memorial Walk -1000 Steps - Dandenong Ranges
The 1000 Steps in Dandenong Ranges is a very popular trekking spot among the fitness fanatics across Melbourne. We started our trip from the Southern Cross Railway Station in Melbourne CBD and got down at Upper Ferntree Gully station at the Dandenong Ranges. You get to choose from three trails the Lyrebird Fitness Track, Kokoda Track, Ramblers Walk. We walked about 5-6KM(including the up and down distance from the railway station) and it took us around 2:30 hours in total. This vlog is about exploring the 1000 steps and the other trails in Dandenong Ranges.
The Kokoda Track in Dandenong Ranges is created in memory of the soldiers who fought and died on the real Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea, during World War II. There are plaques across the trail which contains useful information regarding the track. Do stop and read these which will help you with a better understanding as well as catch your breath.
We started our trek by choosing the Kokoda Track and then went further forward to the Picnic spot on the top before you started our descent via the Lyrebird fitness track.
