Yugoslav Spomeniks (Part 4-A): Serbia's Most Beautiful Towns & Villages
19-22. October 2022. Serbia (Србија) ???????? This video presents this first half of my 10-day Autumn round-trip drive from Vršac around the most beautiful parts of Serbia for 1,117 miles (1,978 km) looking for Yugoslav-era spomeniks (monuments). I found (26) of them. The spomeniks are mainly World War II memorial sculptures that were part of a grand project of Tito's to unify socialist Yugoslavia in the aftermath of the NOB. Estimates put the number of such spomeniks built at up to 40,000. These communist works of art are unique and beautiful and often abandoned.

This is my personal favourite video from Serbia. I started my journey from Kruševac made my way to Jastrebac mountain, stopping for a sip of spring water. I then continued my journey to Kopaonik mountain. Before reaching my final destination, I encountered unexpected interactions with a priest who fed me and a man on the street whom I gave a lift. The heat from the direct sun exhausted me so I decided to make a stop in Brus town before staying in a Ribari village. I was blown away by the accommodation Vila Djordjevic that I accidentally found on the internet:

Wow! Serbia is so much more beautiful than we thought!
And we are just at the beginning of our road trip around the country.
After our visit to Subotica, we went towards Drina river, where we stopped at a nature reserve, housing the Balkan donkeys that produce one of the most expensive cheese on earth!
We then stopped at an Etno Park for a traditional Serbian meal, and a look at a mini Serbian village. And we ended our road trip by staying at the most amazing glamping spot by the river Drina.

16. November 2022. Serbia (Србија). Vojvodina (Војводина). North Banat District. Kikinda (Кикинда). This 5th chapter video presents an emergency visit to the city of Kikinda, the Owl Capital of the World, to see a controversial monument erected in 2018, but soon to be removed thanks to the demands of its citizens. Of course, since we were in the area, we went on a short urban safari looking for the famous long-eared owls. And, naturally, I kept my eye open for Yugoslav-era spomeniks (monuments). I found (3) of them. The spomeniks are World War II memorial sculptures that were part of a grand project of Tito's to unify socialist Yugoslavia in the aftermath of the NOB. Estimates put the number of such spomeniks built at up to 40,000. These communist works of art are unique and beautiful and often abandoned, but the good folks of Kikinda appears to be taking good care of theirs under the watchful eyes of owls. Улица генерала Драпшина, входит в число самых красивых улиц мира, она была построена в конце 19 века.
Дом муниципалитета был построен в 1894 году
Это был один из самых представительных объектов Австрии. Над главным входом латинское слово ПОДОЖДИТЕ! Оно должно напоминать жителям о единстве и терпимости.
На против музея, стоит фонтан, называется семья.
Раньше в этом здании находился магистрат, резиденция Великого округа Кикинда и Королевского суда. Здание было построено в 1839 году, а музей основан в 1946 году.
В музее есть скелет мамонта, которому больше 500 000 тысяч лет, который нашли в карьере, где добывают глину. Предполагают, что во время миграции животное застряло в болотной грязи и там погибло.
Сувача это старинная сухая мельница, в которой лошади ходили по кругу, вращая ворот, и все эти механизмы
Кикинда имеет одну из двух оставшихся таких мельниц в Европе (другая находится в Венгрии).
Мельницу использовали для измельчения зерна, так же здесь перерабатывали перец и корицу.
