Aurangabad is an important city in the state of Maharashtra, India. It sees a lot of international tourist traffic due to world heritage sites, Ajanta & Ellora caves. Aurangabad, a dream destination of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, founded in 1610, is known today, as one of the four important cities in Maharashtra. The city is heading towards rapid industrial growth, but retains its past glory and charms, heritage and traditions. Conspicuously seen on the Deccan plateau, it has a rich culture and a plethora of magnificent arts on display.
This city is the administrative headquarters of the Marathwada region and is known as the ‘City of Gates’. Of the 52 gates that dotted the medieval city only four major ones and nine subordinate ones survive today. While the city changed several hands, it finally got its current name when Aurangzeb took over the Deccan kingdoms and named it after himself in 1653.For the Mughals, Aurangabad was an important town since it served as a strategic point to suppress the rising power of Shivaji. Aurangabad was taken over by the Nizam of Hyderabad after the death of Aurangazeb in 1707 and was part of the Princely State of Hyderabad during the British Raj. It was annexed into the Union of India after 1947 and was part of Hyderabad until 1956 when it was merged with the Bombay state and eventually the state of Maharashtra in 1960.

Aurangabad is a city in the Aurangabad district of Maharashtra state in India. The city is a tourism hub, surrounded by many historical monuments, including the Ajanta Caves and Ellora Caves, which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, as well as Bibi Ka Maqbara and Panchakki. Aurangabad was a part of the Princely States of Hyderabad during the British Raj, until its annexation into the Indian Union after the Indian independence in 1947, and thereafter a part of Hyderabad state of India until 1956. In 1956 it became a part of newly formed bilingual Bombay state and in 1960 it became a part of Maharashtra state.

Aurangabad is an important city in the state of Maharashtra, India. It sees a lot of international tourist traffic due to world heritage sites, Ajanta & Ellora caves. Aurangabad, a dream destination of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, founded in 1610, is known today, as one of the four important cities in Maharashtra. The city is heading towards rapid industrial growth, but retains its past glory and charms, heritage and traditions. Conspicuously seen on the Deccan plateau, it has a rich culture and a plethora of magnificent arts on display.
This city is the administrative headquarters of the Marathwada region and is known as the ‘City of Gates’. Of the 52 gates that dotted the medieval city only four major ones and nine subordinate ones survive today. While the city changed several hands, it finally got its current name when Aurangzeb took over the Deccan kingdoms and named it after himself in 1653.For the Mughals, Aurangabad was an important town since it served as a strategic point to suppress the rising power of Shivaji. Aurangabad was taken over by the Nizam of Hyderabad after the death of Aurangazeb in 1707 and was part of the Princely State of Hyderabad during the British Raj. It was annexed into the Union of India after 1947 and was part of Hyderabad until 1956 when it was merged with the Bombay state and eventually the state of Maharashtra in 1960.

In 1819 British officer captain John Smith , accidentally discovered on a tiger hunting party. Ajantha is actually a village name nearby caves .
BIBI KA MAQBARA is a tomb located in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. BIBI KA MAQBARA actual meaning in English is Tomb of the Lady. It is also called mini Taj Mahal. It was commissioned in 1660 by the Mughal emperor Aurangazeb in the memory of his first and chief wife Dilras Banu Begum, also called Rabia ul Daurani. As per another theory Azam shah, son of Aurangazeb built this BIBI KA MAQBARA as a gratitude to his mother Rabia ul Daurani, in between 1651-1661AD. Due to strong resemblance, it is also called theDaccani Taj( Taj of Deccan).
