Travel Malaysia: Terengganu, Gem Of The East Coast (ep 16)

Our road trip continues as we drove along the coastal line of the East in Peninsular Malaysia in Terengganu. There were so many beautiful spots in this state that we had fun soaking in the scenery while we flew our drones over the pristine beaches and beautiful monuments in the city.

Ternyata Begini Bandar Kuala Terengganu

Bercuti di Kuala Terengganu pada 8-10 April 2021. Kami dari Kerteh mengambil masa selama 2 ½ jam perjalanan untuk sampai ke homestay kami yang terletak di Seberang Takir. Kami lalu ikut highway tadi san turun ikut tol Bukit Payung, ingatkan dekat rupanya jauh lagi.

A Malaysian Roadtrip

The year 2020 has gone just like that. I took a break of work to return home to Malaysia for a holiday and between that I had motorcycle rides planned in the Himalayan region of Nepal and India. Due to the pandemic, I have been stranded here in Malaysia unable to return to Australia. In addition to that my planned motorcycle road trips had to be cancelled.

IN spite of current situation, I had an opportunity that I have been longing for which is to ride a loop around west Malaysia that I never found time to do. Malaysia had tight border restrictions in place since March, but were relaxed at about the month of August.

So I took this opportunity and off I went on my Royal Enfield 500 classic

The catch of this ride was to not use highways but only old roads and I rode without the use of a GPS. Solely relying on signboards and help from locals.

The Itinerary

Day 1: 10th Sept
Subang Jaya - Putrajaya - Sepang - Port Dickson - Tanjung Tuan - Melaka

Day 2:
Melaka - Muar - Batu Pahat - Simpang Renggam - Skudai - Johor Bahru

Day 3:
Johor Bahru - Mersing - Endau - Kuala Rompin - Tasik Chini - Gambang - Kuantan

Day 4:
Kuantan - Teluk Cempedak - Cherating - Kerteh - Rantau Abang - Kuala Terengganu - Merang - Besut - Bachok - Kota Bharu

Day 5:
Kota Bharu - Tumpat - Rantau Panjang - Jeli - Gerik - Kulim - Bukit Mertajam - George Town

Day 6:
George Town - Gelugor - Sungai Jawi - Kamunting - Taiping - Changkat Jering - Kuala Kangsar - Sungai Siput - Ipoh

Day 7: 16th Sept
Ipoh - Menglembu - Batu Gajah - Tanjung Tualang - Teluk Intan - Sekinchan - Kuala Selangor - Shah Alam - Subang Jaya

This seven day itinerary consist of approximately 2000 kilometers covered with a riding time of about over 40 hours. I visited as many tourist spots on the route possible as I had to ride about 7-8 hours daily to reach my destinations.

The only state I was unable to ride into was Perlis, and also the capital of Kedah which is Alor Setar. These areas were still hotspots for Covid-19. Therefore I opted to leave them out.
