Welcome to an immersive travel experience from Kanyakumari to Rameshwaram, a sacred pilgrimage to this hallowed destination. This journey commenced with a scenic train ride, offering picturesque coastal vistas, culminating at Mandapam station. From there, I utilized local transportation to reach Rameshwaram bus stand. Serendipitously, my visit coincided with the auspicious Amawasya of Saawan, drawing thousands of devout pilgrims to the Rameshwaram temple.
In order to manage the surging crowds, the authorities temporarily halted private and public vehicles near the temple, necessitating a 4.5-kilometer trek to my hotel.
After settling in, I set out to explore the mystic beauty of Dhanushkodi on a rented scooty, relishing the breathtaking landscapes and the intriguing allure of the ghost town. My next destination was the House of Kalam, the childhood abode of India’s revered former President, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. Additionally, I procured a traditional dhoti to adorn in preparation for my visit to the Ramanathaswamy temple, an emblem of devotion and spirituality.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting an enchanting glow over the town, I made my way to the Ramanathaswamy temple, after a purifying dip in the sacred 22 Theerathams, each imbued with distinct purifying properties. Following a change into traditional attire, I ventured into the temple for the highly anticipated darshan. The ambiance exuded reverence and an ineffable spiritual aura, culminating in a profoundly divine experience.
Join me on this transcendental odyssey to Rameshwaram, where spiritual sanctity and natural splendor converge, etching indelible memories in the sands of time.

The temple was built even before the appearance of the Navagrahas. The temple dates back to four eras. The temple was built by a thousand Shiva servants who attained Moksha at the same time.

Kilakarai is an eastern coastal town and a port, located in southern Tamil Nadu. It was a flourishing seaport and a gateway to places as far as Madurai until the early 20th century. The famous pearl belt known as the Gulf of Mannar in the Bay of Bengal is dotted with small islands Appa Tivu, Nallathanni Theevu, Shuli Tivu, Uppu Tanni Tivu, Talari Tivu and Musal Tivu.
The coastal line of Kilakarai is formed by a series of small bays and coral reefs sheltering the town from the ocean. Kurusadai is one of the many islands within gulf of mannar which recently has been opened by the government of
Tamilnadu for tourism.
You can reach kurusadai Island by boat from pamban bridge with cost you around
300 bucks per person. You may have to wait till the boat fills up or you should be paying the entire cost of the boat's capacity which is 12 members. Kids until the age of 8 can have a free ride.
A fores gaurd/guide will escort you through the island showing around. You can see all the ruins from the British
Era and the specimens of few marine lives.
Plan accordingly since boat availability isn't much at the moment. But witnessing
the white sand beach with little to no tides, beautiful fishes and tiny crabs,coral reefs will make it worth while.There is a good chance of you riding along the dolphins.
