Staviteľmi a prvými majiteľmi hradu boli bratia Imrich a Štefan Zápoľský. V 2. pol. 19. stor. sa objavili prvé snahy o opravu hradu a zriadenie múzea v ňom, no k uskutočneniu tejto myšlienky došlo až v 1. pol. 20. stor. Prvé expozície tu boli otvorené v roku 1931. V súčasnosti sú v ňom sprístupnené historické expozície, dokumentujúce vývoj Kežmarku a okolia.

Slovakia Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Slovakia.
Slovakia has a long and varied history and contains Europe’s youngest capital city and also its highest mountain range, as well as cultural masterpieces and unspoiled nature. Bratislava is located in the heart of Europe and is the capital of Slovakia. Surrounded by the City Hall and several palaces, it is like being taken back in time into a rich and glorious past. On the Danube’s Slovakian side, and to the east, is the town of Komárno. In the old urban market square a Miniature Europe with forty five buildings has, in recent years, come into existence. Towers, domes, arcades, half-timbered buildings and woodcarvings frame the square at whose centre is the Millennium Fountain. It is a unique mixture of architecture that signifies the common culture of European countries. Seven hundred metres above sea level, herds of sheep graze peacefully on the slopes of the Great Fatra, the location of the almost hidden and forgotten Vlkolĺnec, a unique village in the heart of Slovakia’s Liptov region. Today it is tantamount to being an open-air museum. Further north is Terchová, birthplace of Slovakia’s national hero, Juraj Jánošík. The legendary robber chief has an exhibition dedicated to him in which the living conditions and customs of that time are on display. The High Tatra is the smallest high mountain range in Europe. A magnificent mountain landscape with rocky mountains and many lakes. In 1947, the National Park of the same name was founded. Slovakia is a land of fortresses, castles and cities that date from the Middle Ages and, despite its many mountain regions, a southern-influenced way of life.

#TravelSlovakia #Dumbier #Chopok

It is time to Travel Slovakia and after Klak we decided to hike two highest peaks of The Low Tatras. Dumbier 2043 and Chopok with altitude of 2042m.

Slovakia is a beautiful country to visit and it is worth to travel here at any time of the year. You can decide whether you go for easier trips or you can choose very hard hikes.

This time we choose to travel to central part of Slovakia to The Low Tatras mountain range.

My main task was to catch sunset on the top. I did, and here is what I captured.

Our year 2019 spent almost the whole in Eastern Slovakia!

One dumb Slovak politician once said There is nothing in eastern Slovakia Well... since then I've seen so many wonderful places here that it's impossible to put them all into one short video. :) Here is just a short preview of our adventure in 2019 taken almost the whole in eastern Slovakia (with 3 exceptions: Boldog castle and Baradla cave in Hungary and Prague in the Czech Republic). Here is what you can see in this video (Ordered chronologically from January to December 2019):

Kezmarok (Slovakia) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Kezmarok in Slovakia.
Kežmarok is located in the north east of Slovakia in front of the fabulous scenery of the High Tatra. The town’s fifteenth century Gothic castle is located at the edge of the Old Town and its external walls form some sections of the city wall. At the beginning of the sixteenth century it was owned by the Thököly family and was given its present day splendour in full Renaissance style. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, Kežmarok was a centre of rebellion against the Viennese Emperor. Its Baroque castle chapel is a fine building and was renovated in 1658 at the time of the Protestant Oppression. The castle survived the changing times and is one of the town’s main attractions. In the centre of the old town is the Roman Catholic Holy Cross Basilica with its white façade and tall church tower. Gothic and Renaissance dominate its rich interior. The altars and murals, with figures of the story of the Passion, are one of Slovakia’s most valuable works of art. The highlight is the basilica’s main wing altar that features Christ. The town’s Evangelical-Lutheran congregation had the New Protestant AB Church built between 1872 and 1894. Later followed the annexing of a mausoleum for Imre Thököly, who stood up for religious freedom. It was built according to an unconventional design by Danish architect, Theophil Hansen, who featured Byzantine, Romanesque, Moorish and Oriental elements. Next to it is one of the most beautiful articular churches in Slovakia. The churchs’ treasures include one of the oldest wooden pipe organs, a baptismal font, and splendid altar. These were the directives issued within the framework of the Counter-Reformation of 1681: the Articularies. Built at their own cost, completely made of wood, without a stone foundation and within twelve months, this extraordinary building is one of Kežmarok’s most prized buildings.

A walking tour recorded in the charming town of Kezmarok in Slovakia with a rich and magnificent history and many monuments that have been the center of education in Spis and the gateway to exploring and studying the High Tatras since ancient times. Thanks to this, the city has favorable conditions for the development of tourism. The town of Kezmarok is located at an altitude of 626 meters above sea level and was founded by combining three estates into an urban complex and obtaining city rights from the Hungarian King Béla IV in 1269. It is worth mentioning that the name of the city comes from the German word Käsemarkt, which means cheese market.
The main and most recognizable monument in the city is its Kezmarok Castle, which is also the only completely preserved castle in Spis. It is located directly in the city to protect against potential enemies, and the first mention of the castle dates back to around 1463.

Táto dominanta mesta Kežmarok leží pod Zámockým kopcom v okrajovej časti historického centra a je súčasťou mestskej pamiatkovej rezervácie.

Pôvodný gotický zámok vznikol na mieste kláštora na prelome 14. a 15. storočia. Neskôr prešiel viacerými renesančnými a barokovými prestavbami.

– 20. stor.

Prehliadka hradného komplexu trvá 80 minút a je ju možné absolvovať len so sprievodcom.

One of the important cultural and historical monuments of the Podtatra basin is the Kežmar Castle, also called the Kežmar City Castle. It is the only comprehensively preserved castle area on Spiš. This landmark of the city of Kežmarok is located below Zámocký hill in the outskirts of the historic center and is part of the city's historic preservation.

The original Gothic castle was built on the site of a monastery at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. Later, it underwent several Renaissance and Baroque reconstructions. A characteristic element is the prismatic entrance gate, towers and fortification bastion with graphite decoration.

At the Kežmar Castle, visitors can currently view permanent exhibitions, portraits, historical vehicles and historical collections documenting the development of Kežmar and its surroundings, the prehistoric and medieval settlement of Kežmar, and the Kežmar Rifle Association.

As with all castles and chateaux, many rumors, legends and superstitions circulate about Kežmarské. The guides will tell you in detail about the black and white lady, secret passages with treasures or a brave soldier, wives and daughters walled up, but it is up to you which of these superstitions you believe.

The Museum of Residential Culture is also located in the castle grounds. It is an original Gothic-Renaissance burgher's house, where an exhibition has been open since 1994, which includes the development of furniture from the 17th-20th centuries.

The tour of the castle complex lasts 80 minutes and can only be completed with a guide. In addition to the normal visiting hours for the public, important events and exhibitions are also organized at the castle throughout the year.
