Palau /pəˈlaʊ/ (help·info), officially the Republic of Palau (Palauan: Beluu er a Belau), is an island nation in the Pacific Ocean, some 500 miles (800 km) east of the Philippines and 2,000 miles (3,200 km) south of Tokyo. Having emerged from United Nations trusteeship (administered by the United States) in 1994, it is one of the world's youngest and smallest sovereign states. In English, the name is sometimes spelled Belau in accordance with the native pronunciation. It was formerly also spelled Pelew.[3]

Palau's most populous islands are Angaur, Babeldaob, Koror, and Peleliu. The latter three lie together within the same barrier reef, while Angaur is an oceanic island several miles to the south. About two-thirds of the population live on Koror. The coral atoll of Kayangel is situated north of these islands, while the uninhabited Rock Islands (about 200) are situated to the west of the main island group. A remote group of six islands, known as the Southwest Islands, some 375 miles (600 km) from the main islands, are also part of the country and make up the states of Hatohobei and Sonsorol.

[edit] Climate
Palau enjoys a tropical climate all year round with an annual mean temperature of 82 °F (28 °C). Rainfall can occur throughout the year, averaging a total of 150 inches (3,800 mm). The average humidity over the course of the year is 82%, and although rain falls more frequently between July and October, there is still much sunshine. Typhoons are rare, as Palau is outside the main typhoon zone.

Consists primarily of tourism, subsistence agriculture, and fishing. Tourist activity focuses on scuba diving and snorkeling in the islands' rich marine environment, including its barrier reefs walls and World War II wrecks. The government is the major employer of the work force, relying heavily on financial assistance from the US. Business and tourist arrivals numbered 50,000 in the financial year 2000/2001. The population enjoys a per capita income twice that of the Philippines and much of Micronesia. Long-term prospects for the key tourist sector have been greatly bolstered by the expansion of air travel in the Pacific, the rising prosperity of leading East Asian countries, and the willingness of foreigners to finance infrastructure development.

In July 2004, Palau Micronesia Air was launched with service from Palau to Yap, Guam, Micronesia, Saipan, Australia, and the Philippines. By offering low fares it was planned to be a competitor of Continental Micronesia, however it ceased operations in December of the same year, mainly because of rising fuel prices. Palau Micronesia Air has not restarted operations since but has made a codeshare alliance with Asian Spirit, a carrier that operates flights between Palau and the Philippines (Davao, Cebu, and Manila). There are two flights weekly from Manila via Cebu to Palau and one flight weekly from Davao. Just after few months of service, Asian Spirit ceased its Philippines to Palau route.

Taxes are moderate, the income tax has 3 brackets with medium rates (9.3%, 15% and 19.6%), corporate tax is 4% and general sales tax is 7.5%. There are no property taxes.

Palau - Rock Island Tour (2018)

Palau Travel Video

Palau Travel Video - The Republic of Palau is inimitable. Most Travelists who come here like to spend their time underwater, for Palau is among the worlds most spectacular diving and snorkelling destinations. It features coral reefs, blue holes, wartime wrecks, hidden caves and tunnels, more than 60 vertical drop-offs to play with, and an astonishing spectrum of coral, fish, and rare sea creatures. There are also some outright miracles of evolution: giant clams that weigh a quarter of a ton, for example, and a lake teeming with 21 million softly pulsating, stingless jellyfish.

But you dont have to get wet to enjoy Palau. On land the republic embraces Micronesias richest flora and fauna: exotic birds fly around the islands, crocodiles slip through the mangrove swamps and orchids sprout profusely in backyards. The Palauan archipelago is incredibly diverse, encompassing the polyglot state of Koror; the marvellous Rock Islands; Micronesias second-largest island, Babeldaob (the land that Pacific standard time forgot); Peleliu, once war ravaged, now just ravishing; tranquil, tiny Angaur; the coral atolls of Kayangel and Ngeruangel; and the remote South-West Islands.

Toss into the mix some of Micronesias most sociable (and responsible) people, and its no surprise that parts of Palau are known as the beginning of everything, a template the rest of the world would do well to follow.

About that responsibility: Palauans love a good, socially aware acronym, and you can see them everywhere on signs and billboards, like WAVE - Welcome All Visitors Enthusiastically or STARS - Start Treating Alcohol Related Symptoms. You might find yourself playing this game, too. And perhaps youll come to the same conclusion we did, that the name of this country is itself an acronym: Palaus Archipelago: Lovely and Unique.

Enjoy Your Palau Travel Video!

Palau | Rock Islands Tour - The Island Paradise

The Rock Islands of Palau, also called Chelbacheb, are a small collection of limestone or coral uprises, ancient relics of coral reefs that violently surfaced to form Islands in Palau's Southern Lagoon, between Koror and Peleliu, and are now an incorporated part of Koror State. There are between 250 and 300 islands in the group according to different sources, with an aggregate area of 47 square kilometres (18 sq mi) and a height up to 207 metres (679 ft). They are a World Heritage Site since 2012.

Republic of Palau
Located at 7 degrees north of the equator, the Pacific island country belongs to the Federated States of Micronesia Islands, with a population of about 18,000. It was listed as a World Heritage in 2012 and is a world-renowned ocean paradise island.

In addition to the rich natural ecology, it also retains the traditional island culture. The local community inherits the eternal lifestyle of the environment with the old saying BUL. Tourism is the main economic lifeline, and the diving tourism industry is world-renowned, and has been rated as one of the must-go countries in life for many years.

The novel coronavirus Covid-19 that has swept the world has never stopped, and has now spread to 191 of 196 countries.

The Republic of Palau is one of the few uninfected countries. It is an island country with tourism as its main economic lifeline.

Is there any change in the oceans without tourists?
Is there any hope in the hearts of Palau islanders?
What changes has the epidemic brought to Palau?

Although tourists are gone, the earth was finally able to recuperate. So far we have stayed in Palau to record the epidemic, and all of stressing we’ve been facing were thrown into the sea. We just want to share what we have seen and learned, a short film record. It reflects the unpretentious natural beauty of Palau, the problems faced by the people of Palau, and the hope of the tourism industry for the future.

If you plan to travel, you might as well take a look first. If you are interested in our story, don't forget to follow us. There will be more works to share with you in the future.
