Finland Small City Walks: Wealthy Enclave City Kauniainen

Kauniainen (Swedish: Grankulla) is a relatively small city (approx. 9000 inhabitants) completely surrounded by the City of Espoo. Kauniainen was founded by a corporation in 1906, AB Grankulla. It appeared originally as a small private villa community, when a few investors bought a large plot of land and began splitting and selling it for villas, and building infrastructure. The beautiful Villa plots were quite large and built by the best Finnish architects. Today, Kauniainen has the lowest tax percent of all the cities in Finland.

Helsinki Travel Guide - Finland Magical Moments

Helsinki Travel Guide - Finland Magical Moments

Helsinki (Finnish) or Helsingfors (Swedish) is the capital of Finland. Founded in 1550, the Daughter of the Baltic has been the Finnish capital since 1812, when it was rebuilt by the tsars of Russia along the lines of a miniature St. Petersburg, a role it has played in many Cold War movies. Today, Helsinki pulls off the trick of being something of an international metropolis while still retaining a small-town feel. The best time to visit is in summer, when Finns peel off their overcoats and flock to outdoor bars and cafes to enjoy the sunshine.

Helsinki was founded in A.D. 1550 by King Gustav Vasa of Sweden as a trading post to compete with Tallinn to the south in Estonia, which was Danish at that time. Its growth was slow until the establishment of Sveaborg (nowadays Suomenlinna) Maritime Fortress in the front of Helsinki in the middle of 18th century.

The county of Helsinki forms the core of Finland's largest urban area, known in Finnish as the capital area (pääkaupunkiseutu). Helsinki is bordered by the Gulf of Finland to the south, while the suburban municipality Espoo, with the embedded tiny enclave town of Kauniainen, is to the west. The more industrialized municipality of Vantaa is to the north and east. Beyond these three the suburbs rapidly give way to small towns, farms and forests, most notably Nuuksio National Park at the intersection of Espoo, Vihti and Kirkkonummi.

Within Helsinki itself, the city center is on the southern peninsula at the end of the city's main thoroughfare Mannerheimintie (or just Mansku). Both the central railway station and the main bus terminal are in the city center. Shopping streets Aleksanterinkatu (or Aleksi for short) and Esplanadi (or Espa) connect to Senate Square (Senaatintori), the historical center of the city.

Helsinki has a humid continental climate, with significant moderation from the sea and it's the coldest major city in Scandinavia and one of the coldest cities in Europe. Winters are damp, snowy and cold and temperatures usually stay below freezing and temperatures can fall down to -7°C (18°F) in February (the coldest month).

Central Helsinki is rather compact and can be explored on foot by energetic visitors. A combination of walking and public transportation might be most convenient to cover the sights in Helsinki. A metro line runs from the Matinkylä suburb in Espoo in the west, through the city center, and then to the eastern suburbs. Apart from the metro stops at the shopping centers of Iso Omena (Matinkylä), Ainoa (Tapiola) and Itis (Itäkeskus), the Rastila camping site and Aurinkolahti Beach, few places along the line are of interest to tourists. After Itäkeskus in the east, the line splits in two, with one line going to Mellunmäki and the other to Vuosaari. From the city center, the travel time to the ends of each of the lines is about 20 minutes.

Surrounded by sea and a vast archipelago, Helsinki is at its best in the summer when the dialogue between the city and nature is at its fullest. Classical Helsinki's sights can be divided into an eclectic set of churches and a wide variety of museums. For a coastal amble past some of Helsinki's minor and major sights, see the itinerary A seaside stroll in Helsinki.

Kalajoki sandbars are a nature destination and tourist center in Kalajoki, a province of Northern Ostrobothnia on the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia. The Kalajoki sandbars are located along Highway 8, about ten kilometers south of the Kalajoki city center.

There are many stories about the birth of Kalajoki sandbars. Formerly known as the Bolsheviks, the place was a destination for the local population at least as early as the 1890s. The first kiosk in the area began in the 1920s. Launched in 1931, the so-called Hilman Hotel was for a long time the only host company. In 1964, the State Hotel was built in the area, which was visited by, among others, President Urho Kekkonen and his Russian guests. In the 1960s, a dance floor and a holiday union hotel became an area. The municipality of Kalajoki (a city since 2002) maintained the campsite, which was transferred to private ownership in 2004. The determined development of the tourist area began in the 1960s, after which the number of companies in the area increased. The municipality of Kalajoki built Spa Sanifani in 1990. A significant growth leap was experienced in the first years of the 21st century, when a new hotel was added to the area (Santa's Resort & Spa Hotel Sani, originally Spa Hotel Sani and Metsähallitus Marine Nature Center in 2007). 2008. In the late 2010s, the number of holiday home construction in Hiekkasärkki has grown greatly, and in 2017 there are about 12,500 beds in the area, compared to only about 3,500 in the early 2000s. In May 2018, Ostoskylä Raitti was opened near Hiekkasärkkä.

Kauniainen is a city Finland

Kauniainen is a Finnish town located in Uusimaa province. Kauniainen is clearly the smallest of the four cities in the capital region in terms of population and the smallest municipality in Finland in terms of surface area. Kauniainen is part of the Helsinki urban area. Kauniainen is known to be bilingual. Kauniainen had 10,300 inhabitants.

Remember to order a channel. I will put more new videos about the country and the city on YouTube.

【4K】Wandering around Kauniainen , Finland

Not a Vlog, just Finland without talking. Enjoy the walk.

Hold on, this isn't Helsinki. What's going on here...
Welcome to Finland's smallest municipality ( only 6km2 ) Kauniainen a small town surrounded by Espoo, about 20ish minute train ride from the central railway station in Helsinki.

I was there to go and see the ruins of Stockmann and Finland's very first Pizza vending machine ????
We're currently in the in between season, which I've never been too much of a fan of. Roads tend to get a bit slippery / icy during that season.

Starting off from the train station and zig zagging towards the ruins. The later half is a bit rushed , was running very low on battery and had to pick up the pace ( had about 5ish% battery life left when I got to the ruins ) . Will definitely go back and make another walk in Kauniainen either in spring or summer. Seems like a town which is better experienced during those seasons.

Thanks for walking with me, see you next time.

Helsinki, Finland, Top 5

travel videos & photos at: with text, maps & links.

1:21 Esplanade
5:39 Market Square
10:39 Old Market Hall
12:15 Senate Square

20:02 Suomenlinna

We are visiting the beautiful capital of Finland, Helsinki, with a look at my favorite top-five visitor attractions. Of course, there are many more things to see and do here,
Be sure to see our other Helsinki movie Esplanade Park and shopping district, Market Square with its food and crafts on the waterfront, number three, Senate Square with its historic buildings and cathedral, four, you'll want to do some shopping and people-watching in the vibrant downtown center. The streets here are mostly for locals. It can get pretty busy, but has a relaxed pace and authentic atmosphere. Finland is located between Scandinavia and Russia. And you'll see a lot of blond hair in this city, which is the second-most northerly capital in the world, after Ridgeview in Iceland, And rounding out our top-five activities -- It's fun to take a boat ride out to the nearby islands, including an old fortress called Suomenlinna where we'll get off the boat and take a walk around.
Helsinki's downtown is rather compact, making it quite easy to walk to each of our main sites in just a few minutes. we'll start out with the Esplanade, then the food market and Senate Square, saving the shopping and boat ride for later.
The Esplanade is one of those great city parks. In English, it's pronounced Esplanade. In Finnish, Esplanadi. But the locals just say espa, and it runs from the market and waterfront all the way to the busy commercial streets of town. There's beautiful greenery all around you, especially in the summertime, and you can bring your own food into the park if you like, have a picnic on the lawn.
And there's some very comfortable benches here. The park was designed in 1818 by Carl Engel, and it took a few decades to develop with extensive landfill and landscaping. You could even take a horse carriage ride, if you like, or just pet the horses. This park is very much the heart of town, and it's not just for tourists.
This is one of the favorite spots for locals to come and relax and enjoy the environment. There are many fine restaurants around the outside of the park, and an excellent choice inside, the famous Kapelli cafe. Kapelli has a dining terrace that faces a stage and outdoor performance area popular with musicians, and today, a gymnastics family, who also put on a performance with their trained cats. Can you believe that? Is it possible for cats to perform an orchestrated routine. Just watch. Well, yes.
The cats can jump through a hoop, climb a pole, fly through the air, jump into a basket with her young daughters supporting the action. It's very common to run into the street musicians playing rock or classical, all kinds of music. But to see a family performing with trained cats is most unusual. This video was photographed during several different tours, all of them in the month of July.
July is a great time to be here because the weather is very mild. It doesn't get hot or cold, and the town is not crowded because locals tend to leave to go on vacation. The streets on each side of Esplanade host a main concentration of stores selling Finnish-made goods such as wooden toys for the kids and Marimekko fabrics, especially along the North Esplanade. These shops are all noted for their world-famous Finish design, a sleek, modern functionalist look.
The Marimekko shop is part of the stylish Kamp Galleria. This upscale shopping mall, right in the middle of Helsinki, brings top international brands and high quality Finnish fashion designs, providing a luxurious shopping experience in this unique center.
The Finns are proud to be a major creative force in the development of the Scandinavian design movement, whose roots stretch back to the Art Nouveau period of the early 1900s and have continued evolving into our postmodern world.
There are several stylish restaurants on this block, including Brasserie Kemp, whose food philosophy is a combination of French cuisine and Finnish food culture. My friends enjoyed a deluxe seafood platter The restaurant is open for breakfast right through late dinner, located right along the Esplanade, with seating indoors and outside. Another popular and more casual restaurant here is the Cafe Strindberg.
Great spot for a pot of tea. Maybe some pastries or a light meal, perhaps sitting at an outdoor table watching the passing parade of people. At the top of the Esplanade there is an interesting restaurant complex, the territory, and includes the Theater Gril, Theater Bar, a Clock Bar, club and a deli. Walking back through the lower end of the Esplanade, which will bring us down to the food market at the South Harbor Market Square.

MAP OF FINLAND

hello hello my friends. this is a map of beautiful finland. Finland has about 168,000 lakes. Its largest lake, Saimaa, is the fourth largest in Europe. The Finnish Lakeland is the area with the most lakes in the country; many of the major cities in the area, most notably Tampere, Jyväskylä and Kuopio, are located near the large lakes. The greatest concentration of islands is found in the southwest, in the Archipelago Sea between continental Finland and the main island of land.

Much of the geography of Finland is a result of the Ice Age. The glaciers were thicker and lasted longer in Fennoscandia compared with the rest of Europe. Their eroding effects have left the Finnish landscape mostly flat with few hills and fewer mountains. Its highest point, the Halti at 1,324 meters, is found in the extreme north of Lapland at the border between Finland and Norway. The highest mountain whose peak is entirely in Finland is Ridnitšohkka at 1,316 m , directly adjacent to Halti.

There are some 187,888 lakes in Finland larger than 500 square meters and 75,818 islands of over 0,5 km2 area, leading to the denomination the land of a thousand lakes.
The retreating glaciers have left the land with morainic deposits in formations of eskers. These are ridges of stratified gravel and sand, running northwest to southeast, where the ancient edge of the glacier once lay. Among the biggest of these are the three Salpauselkä ridges that run across southern Finland.

The landscape is covered mostly by coniferous taiga forests and fens, with little cultivated land. Of the total area, 10% is lakes, rivers, and ponds, and 78% is forest. The forest consists of pine, spruce, birch, and other species. Finland is the largest producer of wood in Europe and among the largest in the world. The most common type of rock is granite. It is a ubiquitous part of the scenery, visible wherever there is no soil cover. Moraine or till is the most common type of soil, covered by a thin layer of humus of biological origin. Podzol profile development is seen in most forest soils except where drainage is poor. Gleysols and peat bogs occupy poorly drained areas. thanks for listening. if you made it all the way until the end you will probably be the first. hahaha. hehehe. don't laugh. if you laugh you must subscribe to this channel for the best maps, and for the love of finland. Finland , officially the Republic of Finland (Finnish: Suomen tasavalta; Swedish: Republiken Finland is a Nordic country in Northern Europe. It shares land borders with Sweden to the northwest, Norway to the north, and Russia to the east, with the Gulf of Bothnia to the west and the Gulf of Finland across Estonia to the south. Finland covers an area of 338,455 square kilometres (130,678 sq mi) with a population of 5.5 million. Helsinki is the capital and largest city, forming a larger metropolitan area with the neighbouring cities of Espoo, Kauniainen, and Vantaa. The vast majority of the population are ethnic Finns; Finnish, alongside Swedish, are the official languages. Finland's climate varies from humid continental in the south to the boreal in the north. The land cover is primarily a boreal forest biome, with more than 180,000 recorded lakes.

Finland was first inhabited around 9000 BC after the Last glacial period. The Stone Age introduced several different ceramic styles and cultures. The Bronze Age and Iron Age were characterized by extensive contacts with other cultures in Fennoscandia and the Baltic region. From the late 13th century, Finland gradually became an integral part of Sweden as a consequence of the Northern Crusades. In 1809, as a result of the Finnish War, Finland became part of the Russian Empire as the autonomous Grand Duchy of Finland, during which Finnish art flourished and the idea of independence began to take hold. In 1906, Finland became the first European state to grant universal suffrage, and the first in the world to give all adult citizens the right to run for public office. Nicholas II, the last Tsar of Russia, tried to russify Finland and terminate its political autonomy, but after the 1917 Russian Revolution, Finland declared independence from Russia. In 1918, the fledgling state was divided by the Finnish Civil War. During World War II, Finland fought the Soviet Union in the Winter War and the Continuation War, and Nazi Germany in the Lapland War. It subsequently lost parts of its territory, including the culturally and historically significant town of Vyborg, but maintained its independence.

Finland largely remained an agrarian country until the 1950s. After World War II, it rapidly industrialized and developed an advanced economy, while building an extensive welfare state based on the Nordic model; the country soon enjoyed widespread prosperity and a high per capita income. Finland joined the United Nations in 1955 .

Description
Helsinki, or Helsingfors in Swedish, is the vibrant capital and largest city of Finland. Nestled in the south, along the Gulf of Finland, it forms the urban zone with Espoo, Vantaa, and Kauniainen, totaling a population of 1,159,211. Despite its size, Helsinki is bustling, particularly in summer, exuding both Nordic charm and European flair. Approximately 10% of the population is of diverse nationalities, contributing to its cosmopolitan atmosphere. In 2016, Culture Trip ranked Helsinki among the top ten most modern cities globally.

Helsinki, along with neighboring regions like Vantaa, Espoo, and Kauniainen, houses over a million residents. This area accounts for 29% of jobs and one-third of Finland's GDP. The city serves as the governmental hub, hosting cultural, educational, and research institutions. Surrounding regions boast eight universities and six technology parks. Notably, 80% of foreign companies' headquarters in Finland are situated in Helsinki and nearby areas. The urban population surge is fueled by rural-to-urban migration.

Featuring one of Finland's major airports, just 40 minutes from the city center, Helsinki connects directly to global cities. The Helsinki-Tallinn route takes approximately 1.5 hours by sea and 18 minutes by helicopter, ranking as the busiest route. Distances to cities like Tampere and Turku can be covered in 1.5 to 2 hours by train and 1.5 to 2.5 hours by car.

VIRTUAL TOUR OF KAUNIANEN-1

For the third time in a row, Finland has been named happiest country in the UN World Happiness Report. Kauniainen with almost 10,000 residents are most satisfied city in Finland. This means that, this small city is the happiest city in the world. I have been living in this lovely and beautiful city since 2011.

???????? Helsinki, Finland city tour ????????

There are slides of Helsinki Cathedral, Kiasma contemporary art museum, Suomenlinna fortress, Uspenski Cathedral, Helsinki Harbour, Helsinki Music Centre, Kamppi Chapel, etc.

Helsinki is the capital and largest city of Finland. It is in the region of Uusimaa, in southern Finland, on the shore of the Gulf of Finland, an arm of the Baltic Sea. Helsinki is located some 80 kilometres north of Tallinn, Estonia, 400 kilometres north east of Stockholm, Sweden, and 388 kilometres west of Saint Petersburg, Russia. Helsinki has close historical connections with these three cities.
The Helsinki metropolitan area includes the urban core of Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Kauniainen, and surrounding commuter towns. It is the world's northernmost metro area of over one million people, and the city is the northernmost capital of an EU member state. The Helsinki metropolitan area is the fourth largest Nordic metropolitan area after the metropolitan areas of Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Oslo, and the City of Helsinki is the third biggest Nordic city after Stockholm and Oslo.
Helsinki is Finland's major political, educational, financial, cultural, and research center as well as one of northern Europe's major cities. Approximately 75% of foreign companies operating in Finland have settled in the Helsinki region.
