Kaunas, Lithuania is an amazing place to visit in Lithuania . If you want to know top 10 what to do in Kaunas or you need a travel guide, please keep watching.

#5. Visit Kiemo Galerija
Kaunas has a plethora of Street Art and even its own street art festival. But, if you're on limited time and just want to get a flavour then stop by the Kiemo Galerija or the Court Yard Gallery.
This Street Art Yard was one of my favourite places in the whole city and really defies the concept of a traditional gallery or reality itself!
It was originally set up by Vytenis Jakas when he moved into the area and was annoyed about the lack of community spirit.
He felt that modernisation is alienating neighbourhoods and so asked his neighbours for their stories and photos of residents who used to live there.
#4. Star Seeder
This was originally an illegal piece of artwork, made on a statue outside of the Kaunas War Museum. But, it won a competition and was loved so much it was revived!
Star Seeder sees the statue of a man sowing seeds also become a star seeder by night. You have to check it out after the sun goes down.
#3. Visit Christ's Resurrection Church
Once you reach the top of Žaliakalnis Hill on the Funicular, you must head on over to the Resurrection church.Or, if you're feeling like some exercise you can climb up here the traditional way by the steep stairs.
This Roman Catholic Church is the largest Basilica church in the Baltics. As well as its architecture the church has a colourful story.
The construction started in 1934 and was declared a masterpiece of modern architecture. Approximately 1 million litas were spent to build the church.
Unfortunately, in the Soviet Era it was confiscated by the government. Stalin decreed that it would be used as a factory and the crucifix and any religious parts of this building were taken down.
It was then used as a radio factory until Lithuanian independence. Once the awakening happened it then switched hands back to a church.
Funding was brought in to reconstruct it to its original glory and it was then consecrated in 2004. As well as being a religious house today, it's used for community gatherings.
#2. Take a bus to the Pažaislis Monastery
I was gutted that I didn't have enough time to see the Pažaislis Monastery. But, it closed early on a Saturday and it was going to take me another 45 minutes to reach there by bus! So, I put it on the list for next time.
The famous Pažaislis Monastery is the largest monastery complex in Lithuania and was originally founded in 1662. It is also one of the finest examples of Italian Baroque architecture in the country.
It was originally built as a Roman Catholic church for the Order of the Camaldolese Hermits by Krzysztof Zygmunt Pac who was a nobleman of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
#1. The hidden Church of St. Gertrude
As you're wandering through the Old Town, you may stumble across the Church of St. Gertrude. It can be found through a gate on Laisves aleja.
The style of this church reminded me of the Church of St Anne in Vilnius as it was built in the same Gothic brickwork style. I later found out it is one of the oldest Brick Gothic churches in Europe.
The exact date of the church is unknown but historians believe it was built in the early 15th century and it was decreed by the Grand Duke of Lithuania Alexander to be the parish church of Kaunas.
Many people visit to look upon the ancient The crucifix, one of the most valuable monuments in the city. It's a little bit hard to locate but when you do find it, it's spectacular! Our tip is to visit Kaunas with a guide. The guide will take you in 2 hours and show you all the highlights of Kaunas. You can book your tickets for a reduced rate via the link in the description. Tickets can be canceled up to 24 hours in advance.

Visiting Kaunas, Lithuania | Travel guide from a local

Hello everyone and welcome to Kaunas - the second largest city in Lithuania. I'm so exited to make this video because I grew up in Kaunas and want to show you all what the city has to offer.

Some of the famous places are: Kaunas gothic old town and centre, Pažaislis monastery and Kaunas reservoir with a yacht club, old city funiculars, numerous museums and galleries including museum of Lithuania's most famous painter and composer M. K. Čiurlionis, and a quirky Devil's museum. In Kaunas you can also learn a lot about soviet past from its unique shops and cafes still left in the centre, and 9 fort museum which is infamous for its role in the second world war.

There is so much more in Kaunas, see the video to find out!

I'm Justina and I'm travelling around all 60 municipalities of Lithuania, a small country in the north east of Europe.

I had the opportunity to visit Kaunas in Lithuania, albeit only for a short amount of time, but I jumped at chance! Kaunas is Lithuania's second largest city, and it's where I started my journey on exploring the country. I arrived late at night on a coach from Warsaw, so woke up early the following day to explore this beautiful city.

Unfortunately both the weather and the attractions were not on our side as a lot were closed due to either holiday/lunch/weather but I was sure to make the most of the time I had. I will definitely be returning in the near future to see more of this great city. Remember to tune in again soon for the Vilnius segment of this trip!

How Much Can I See On A Dull November Day? My Flying Visit To Kaunas, Lithuania...

This one isn't how it was meant to be. I had originally planned a good day and a half here, but my itinerary was broken by a non-existent train so I had to dash around this cool city with much less time than it deserved. It was still fun though and I'm happy with how much I ended up seeing. I hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching!

I don’t pretend to be a travel expert, but I love what I do and would be honoured if you came along with me. My channel focusses on the wide-eyed wonder and excitement of finding somewhere new, and my genuine reaction to it. You might not get a history lesson in my videos, but who knows, you might pick up some useful travel tips along the way, add a few destinations to your bucket list and hopefully be entertained by what you see. Thanks for watching, it means a lot to me :)

I do ALL of this myself. Planning, filming, editing, promoting, all with a weekly upload schedule, so please understand not every video will be an epic adventure. But my pledge is to always do my best in any situation.

FAQs:
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I was born in Glasgow but have lived in Carnoustie, Dalgety Bay, Stonehaven, Edinburgh, Montrose, and further afield (Salamanca, Spain & Devonport, New Zealand)
WHEN DO YOU UPLOAD?
Saturdays at 10am Scottish time. Occasionally a bonus midweek video will pop up.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
I film with a GoPro11 and my iPhone12. I edit on iMovie and use epidemicsound.com for music. I also use canva.com for thumbnails etc.
WHY DON'T YOU SPEND LONGER AT DESTINATIONS?
The usual suspects I'm afraid - time and money! Hotels especially these days make my eyes water like a true Scotsman.
WHERE'S ALICJA?
Alicja will feature whenever possible, but she has her own life and a proper job so it can take a while for our schedules to match up. Trust me though, I prefer it when She is there too!
DO YOU PAY FOR YOUR OWN TRAVEL?
Yes I do. I've only ever accepted a complementary ticket as compensation for a previous problem. All my opinions are frank and honest reflections of travel as I experience it.
WHY THE ADS?
It's my income, I can't do this for free.
CAN I CONTACT YOU?
I used to list my email address but felt bad not having the capacity to respond to everything so took it down (and I got a LOT of spam so missed many genuine messages along the way).
HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE CHANNEL?
Watching my videos is of course support enough, but if you'd like to support further, I'll pop links below for Paypal and Patreon. All kind donations are super-appreciated and will go 100% towards future filming trips.
DO YOU ACCEPT SPONSORSHIPS?
I don't like to upset the flow of my videos, so I don't even include mid-roll ads anymore (at significant loss of income to myself), so I prefer not to include sponsorships either. I'm open to a small slide at the start/end of each video, but I don't want to get into talking about products, it's something I don't like as a viewer myself (especially as a viewer who pays for YouTube Premium). So it's probably a polite no, although all of this goes out the window if you offer me something which can give me the chance to make a video for my audience that would otherwise be impossible.

Is Kaunas worth visiting? - Kaunas, Lithuania 2022 ????????

On a 7 hour layover in Kaunas, Lithuania on my way to Bergen, Norway, I decided to take the bus into the city centre and have a look round. I had the following recommendations, so decided to vaguely follow it:
Transport: You can take the bus 29G to get from the airport to the city centre and back. I suggest to get off the bus at the stop Gedimino g. (here is the route).

The walk from Soboras to Kaunas castle is very nice (see map), you will find a lot of cafes and bars on the way. Sights on the way or nearby:

Laisvės avenue
Vienybes square
M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum (if you like art. Čiurlionis is one of the most famous Lithuanian painters, symbolist)
Yard gallery
Historical Presidential Palace
Kaunas Parochial Archcathedral Basilica
Kaunas town hall
Valančiaus street – many boutiques and small art galleries
Santakos park
Church of St. George
Kaunas Castle (and museum)

When you reach the town hall, I suggest going to the Church of Vytautas the great and crossing the bridge. On the other side of the river, you will find Aleksotas Funicular, which will take you up the hill to the nice viewpoint.

You can take the bus back to the airport from this bus stop.

Places to eat and drink:

Višta puode
Holas
Nuogas
Piano piano
Kultūra
Hop doc
Spurgine (more about it)
Agave
Vingiu dubingiu pub (for bear)
Genys Taproom (for bear)

I really enjoyed my brief layover and would fully recommend this city for a longer visit!

15 Basic Things To Know Before Visiting Lithuania

Unfortunately most people around the world don’t know much about Lithuania. In some ways this is a blessing - since the beautiful old towns and city centres of the country are never too busy in the same way as perhaps London, Paris, and Amsterdam. While its nice for residents and the tourists that DO know about Lithuania, I’m sure the country’s tourism organizations would love to change this.

Lithuania is a lively and interesting country that has changed quickly since it broke away from the Soviet Union in 1990. You'll find a lively nightlife in Vilnius and on the coast, a lot of space for outdoor activities in the national parks that haven't been spoiled yet, and a number of good beaches.

There's also a big difference between life in the city and poverty in the countryside. Lithuanians are fiercely proud of their country. They are also more outgoing and friendly than their Baltic neighbors, and you are likely to meet them everywhere.

Where to go in Lithuania?
Lithuania is small, so getting around is cheap. Even in popular tourist spots, there aren't many people, so you get the feeling that there's still a lot to discover here. Vilnius, with its Baroque Old Town, is the most beautiful Baltic capital in terms of architecture, and it also has a lively nightlife. Kaunas, the second largest city, also has a beautiful center, a few interesting museums, and some great restaurants and bars.

The port city of Klaipda is a good place to stay the night on the way to the resorts of Neringa (the Curonian Spit), a unique strip of sand dunes and forest that protects Lithuania from the Baltic Sea, or to Palanga, Lithuania's party town, where everyone goes in the summer to have fun.
