Underrated town in Bavaria: Landsberg am Lech - Travel Cubed, Germany 4K

When you travel to Bavaria, you can find many beautiful places there. But some of them not too famous for the tourists. One of those places - an underrated town in Bavaria Landsberg am Lech, about 65 kilometers west of Munich.
Landsberg is situated on the Romantic Road and is the center of the Lechrain region, the boundary region between Swabia and Bavaria. It is noted for its picturesque historic center.

Landsberg am Lech developed were a major historic salt road crossed over the Lech. To protect the bridge, Duke Henry the Lion ordered a castle to be built, Castrum Landespurch, incorporating an older settlement and castle named Phetine. Soon a greater settlement evolved, which received its town charter as early as the 13th century.

In 1315, the town burned down but was rebuilt because of its important location. In 1320, Landsberg was permitted to collect salt duties, bringing considerable wealth to the town. In 1419, a river tax added a further source of income.

The town is noted for its prison where Adolf Hitler was incarcerated in 1924. During this incarceration, Hitler wrote/dictated his book Mein Kampf together with Rudolf Hess. His cell, number 7, became part of the Nazi cult and many followers came to visit it during the German Nazi-period. Landsberg am Lech was also known as the town of the Hitler Youth.

My Visit to Landsberg am Lech in Germany

We decided to stop in Landsberg am Lech on the way to Neuschwanstein Castle as part of our trip along the Romantic Road.

The town is about an hour away from Munich and only 30 minutes from Augsburg, which is another cute little small town in Germany that you should check out.

The town of Landsberg is most well known for the Landsberg Concentration Camp from World War II.

I didn't get a chance to visit the camp but I did explore the wonderfully preserved historic Old Town Square. The architecture is picturesque with lots of brightly colored buildings throughout the town center.

Getting caught in the rain we stopped to get ice cream at one of the cafes in the old town. The rain didn't let up so we made our way back to the car and continued on with the trip.

I was only in Landsberg for about an hour. I hope to return in the future and spend more time exploring the town. Looks like such a beautiful place!

Thanks for watching! Don't forget to subscribe to keep up to date with all of my latest travel videos.

What to visit in Bavaria: Seefeld, castle and Pilsensee - Travel Cubed, Germany 4K

Bavaria is really rich in wonderful tourist landmarks. If you wondering what to visit in Bavaria, check our videos, you will find many interesting places.
Seefeld is a municipality in the district of Starnberg in Bavaria, Germany. The town lies on the western shore of the Pilsensee (Pilsen Lake). It is connected to the Bavarian capital city of Munich by the S-Bahn line S8. Seefeld is notable for the Seefeld Castle (c. 1302), a seat of the Toering noble family of Bavaria.
Seefeld castle lies on the east shore of the Pilsensee. It is entered by a massive brick bridge over the Höllengraben to the fountain courtyard, built-in 1674 after a wooden bridge had collapsed. The gate was built in 1736 in rococo style, with a gable that holds an impressive stone carving of the arms of the counts of Toerring-Jettenbach. The courtyard, with its 1733 fountain, is framed by strong 18th-century farm buildings designed for stabling and brewing. A second bridge leads into the inner courtyard. Built on 10th-century foundations, the donjon was mainly built in the 13th century and renovated in 1500
The domain of Sevuelt am Pilsensee (Seefeld) was owned by the lords of Seefeld. In 1150 Count Berchthold von Andechs obtained part of the forest from the Benedictine abbey. In the 12th and 13th centuries, the lords of Seefeld acquired large estates. The castle is mentioned for the first time in 1302. The keep was built in the middle of the 13th century on a rocky spur above the Pilsensee. The small tower in the southwest of the castle shown on Michael Wening's 1700 drawing was probably older, as was the old north building. The Gothic hall and curtain wall were probably built at the same time as the keep.
The first chapel was built in the mid-14th century, first mentioned in 1365. In 1479 this chapel was replaced by the new one built between the keep and the curtain wall by Seyfried von Toerring and inaugurated on 28 December 1479. Also in 1479, a fortified tower was built in the southeast of the castle complex. In 1500 the tower and the donjon were restored. A brewery was built at Seefeld in 1601. The bridge collapsed in 1674 and was rebuilt at a high cost in brick.
The Counts of Toerring-Jettenbach, followers of the Wittelsbachs from the 14th century, were very influential at the court of the Electorate and Kingdom of Bavaria. In 1730 Count Ignaz Felix von Törring-Jettenbach was made field marshal of Bavaria. Extensive construction was undertaken from 1730 onward, including a new brewery, cowshed, and barn, an upgrade to the sawmill, replacement of the inner castle bridge, erection of a fountain in the outer courtyard, and reconstruction of the gatehouse. The chapel also received much of its present furnishings in this period. In 1766 an extension was added on the east side. The chapel was rebuilt in 1775–76 and a French roof replaced the older steep gable roof of the castle. The lodge to the southwest was built by Gabriel Seidl in 1897.

Walking in KAUFBEUREN / Germany ????????- Old Town in Allgäu - 4K 60fps (UHD)

Kaufbeuren is a town in Bavaria. Surrounded by the district of Ostallgäu the old town has the typical Bavarian flair with winding alleys.

We start our tour (October 2020) in the old town near the salt market and circle the St. Martins Church. We walk a bit towards the eastern edge of the old town with larger streets with more traffic. There we get to the Art Hall (Kunsthalle) with the Sywollenturm. We walk a bit further north along the old city walls, which was built in around 1200. We slip right through a small door in that wall back into the old town.

We check out more streets around the fruit market (Obstmarkt) and are back at the Kaiser-Max-Straße which leads us to the town hall. The Fünfknopfturm - a major attraction of Kaufbeuren on a hill - was closed so we have to skip the climb for another visit. The main parts of the old town however were now all visited so as an extra we once again head out of the city center. This time walk south .. to get back to the city hall once more from a different direction.

At last we leave the old town behind. On our way back to the train station we basically head for the city park. We reach that nice little park after a few minutes, where we end our Kaufbeuren tour.

Landsberg am Lech, Germany Walking tour 4K. September 5, 2022.
Landsberg am Lech is a city in Germany, on the Lech River, a district center, located in the state of Bavaria. The settlements on the site of today's Lansberg are first mentioned in the chronicles of 1135. The fortress on the Castle Hill was founded in 1160. The settlement of Landesperch gradually grew up around the fortress. In the XIII century it received the status of a city. The city of Landsberg stood on the famous salt road from Italy towards Augsburg. In 1320, the city authorities received the right to open customs posts and collect duties from carriers. Active trade, customs duties and the right to mint their own coins led to the rapid flourishing of the city. The city is home to Landsberg Prison, famous for serving Adolf Hitler's sentence and for executing Nazi criminals sentenced to death at the Subsequent Nuremberg Trials.

The European Holocaust Memorial (Kaufering VII) near Landsberg am Lech, Bavaria, Germany.

A slight Band of Brothers link here: the European Holocaust Memorial was made in the ruins of the German Kaufering VII concentration camp. The camp liberated by Easy Co. and the 101st was Kaufering IV, about 5 miles north and part of the same group of camps.

There are a few remaining camp buildings (no barrack buildings) and a memorial consisting of headstones from various countries. I didn't explore the surroundings as unfortunately I had run out of time (also the reaon why I didn't visit the Kaufering IV cemetery or a group of Jewish mass graves about 10 miles away).

Landsberg am Lech | Visiting the Nazi Cemetery

Landsberg am lech is a town full of surprises and a must visit location when touring Bavaria. As you leave the railway station, the sound from the weir soon becomes audible and the view looking across the river is amazing with all the town's buildings visible behind. The town centre wasn't to disappoint either, with so many shops and cafés along with some great architecture. The main reason I visited Landsberg, was to visit the church of St. Ulrich and the Landsberg Spottinger Friedhof or cemetery, where Nazis shot at the prison are buried. It's also the town where Adolf Hitler was imprisoned and I walked past the prison on the way to the cemetery. I did enjoy my walk around the town of Landsberg am Lech and Visiting the Nazi Cemetery.
