Vandalur also has a rehabilitation centre that takes care of confiscated, caught, and abandoned wild animals. It is currently known as India's largest zoological garden, as well as one of the largest in the world.

Attractive Unique temple near chennai,
Bhairava Temple is located at Thiruvadisoolam village near Chengalpet in Kanchipuram District of Tamilnadu. The temple is under construction in a round shape facing east. The inside shape is like Siva Lingam and bright lights were installed around the ceiling. The ten storey tall structure with the main and sub shrines completed in five and a half months. The circular sanctum sanctorum is in two levels. Twelve steps each were representing a sign of the zodiac (the twelve Raasis) lead to the higher level where the main deity of the temple - Sri Kshetra Paala Bhairava stands in all his glory.
Enshrined in a transparent glass enclosure, with strands of Rudrakshas on either side of the opening, the Bhairava can be approached from the stairs behind. In olden days, there were entrances on either side of the sanctum sanctorum so that visitors enter and exit the temple without showing their back to the deity. The construction of the stairs behind the deity ensures that visitors come around and pray and are able to descend without showing their backs to the deity.
Beneath the Bhairava, in the lower level are installed the Ashta Bhairavas, Saptha Rishis in the form of stones, and Saptha Kannis in the form of brass lamps. There are a number of little blue and white lights in the ceiling that is shaped like a dome which give an ethereal atmosphere when switched on. The steps represent the twelve signs of the zodiac and when one steps over them to reach the sanctum sanctorum all the doshas pertaining to the horoscope are cleared once and for all. A special “Padi Pooja is performed on Chitra Pournami day which falls on the 14th of April every year.

Vandalur Zoo, Chennai | Vandalur Reserve Forest
Vandalur Zoo formally called Arignar Anna Zoological Park, is located on the outskirts of Chennai at about 30 km from the city. Vandalur Zoo is one of the most famous tourist destination in Chennai. The Zoo is a portion of the Vandalur Reserve Forest which is spread across nearly 1,500 acres of land. Zoo includes a safari park and houses more than thousand animals and birds. The Lion Safari is one of the best attractions here. For those don't want to walk around the zoo, which may take a few hours to finish the round, there are battery cars, bicycles etc. The zoo is pretty crowded on weekends and holidays.
If you are in a hurry, take a Rs 30 ticket and get on the safari. They will show you the most important parts of the zoo and all the animals within an hour or so. But if you are a leisure trip, just rent a bicycle and roam around everywhere until you are tired.
I would recommend you eat breakfast/lunch in the Sangeetha restaurant located outside the zoo. Once you enter the Vandalur zoo, there are not many options for food except a very poorly maintained restaurant with very limited options.

Reptile house/serpentarium
The reptile house or the serpentarium is built, at the cost of ₹ 0.4 million, in a twining snake-like model with entrance and exit points in the snake's mouth and tail, respectively. The house was opened to public in the year 1989 and has 24 enclosures exhibiting 4 species of poisonous and 10 species of non-poisonous snakes. It contains a total of 104 snakes, including 41 Indian pythons, 21 Burmese pythons and four cobras. The park has initiated controlled breeding programme for Indian rock python. Each vivarium has been renovated by changing substratum and providing perch and hide outs. The top of the opening in RCC roof is closed with transparent acrylic sheet to avoid rain and the walled enclosure enables the snake to exhibit all natural behaviours. The king cobra is scientifically kept and maintained in constant temperature by providing air conditioning and hot spot.

Arignar Anna Zoological Park, also known as the Vandalur Zoo, is a zoological garden located in Vandalur, is in the southwestern part of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, about 31 kilometers from the Chennai Central and 15 kilometers from Chennai Airport.
Ever since it was opened for the public in the year 1985, Vandalur Zoo or Arignar Anna Zoological Park has been one of the famous places for relaxation in Chennai. in this annual summer vacation, the Vandalur Zoo is visited by many people and that is a fantastic.
It is now said that visiting this Vandalur Zoo with family would cost very less when compared to going out with family for a movie. Vandalur zoo in this summer vacations would remain open on all the days in this month.
