Карабаш. Медный город ⁴ᴷ
Карабаш — город в Челябинской области Российской Федерации. Административный центр Карабашского городского округа. Население составляет 11 178 человек (2017). Градообразующее предприятие — ЗАО «Карабашмедь».
В XIX веке в долине были открыты залежи медной руды, а в 1837 г. был построен первый медеплавильный завод.
В 1910-м г. в долине возле горы Карабаш был запущен новый медеплавильный завод английским акционерным обществом, возглавляемым концессионером Лесли Урквартом. Этот завод работает до сих пор. Через пять лет после открытия, завод производил третью часть всей российской меди.
К концу 1930-х гг. население Карабаша составляло 50 тыс. человек. 20 июня 1933 года поселку Карабаш присваивается статус города.
В 1950—1970-е годы интенсифицируется рост города. В это же время происходит снижение количества населения до 20 тыс. человек вследствие закрытия шахт. Это время характеризуется также обострением экологических проблем, связанных с грязным медным производством и фактически отсутствием удовлетворяющих сооружений по очистке выбросов и отходов производства.
В 1970-80-х годах завод несколько раз безуспешно пытались закрыть или перепрофилировать.
До конца 1980-х годов даже при очевидной глубокой кризисной ситуации в экологии города (экология ухудшается настолько, что в городе вымирает растительность) и всех связанных с ней сферах жизни города, власть не решается закрыть завод. В конце 1989 года это всё-таки случается и старое металлургическое производство останавливается. Пятая часть населения города остаётся без работы. Социальная обстановка города претерпевает в это время глубокий кризис. Население города уменьшается до 15 тыс. человек. В 1998 году в городе возобновляется медеплавильное производство из-за обострения социально-экономической ситуации.
За все 90 лет работы всех заводов в Карабаше до остановки последнего из них в 1989 году принцип выработки металлов и оборудование существенно не менялись, очистные сооружения практически не совершенствовались.
При производстве меди из медной руды образуется большое количество вредных веществ, в основном газов, таких, например, как производные свинца, серы, мышьяка и, собственно, меди. Все эти газы выбрасывались за период работы заводов практически беспрепятственно и выбросы от них не очищались. Вследствие этого общий вес выбросов за полный период работы заводов составил более 14-ти миллионов тонн. К слову, на некоторых предприятиях (например, на Медногорском комбинате) сера извлекается из руды и перерабатывается в серную кислоту, но в Карабаше этого никогда не делалось.
В 2005 году на предприятии ЗАО «Карабашмедь» заработала установка мокрого катализа компании «Хальдор Топсе» А/О по очистке серосодержащих выбросов и производству серной кислоты.
Во многих СМИ утверждается, что ЮНЕСКО назвала Карабаш самым загрязнённым городом в мире. В упоминающих этот документ ЮНЕСКО СМИ не приводится ни его название, ни даже год создания.

Since Lithuania gained it's independence in 1991 it has removed as much of its Soviet past as it possibly could unlike in other post-Soviet republics where there are constant reminders of the USSR around every corner. However in the north of the country lies the town of Visaginas where I was told I could find the last remaining Soviet mosaic ( kind of ). Join me as I head north to see how life is in Visaginas which was built to house the workers from the nearby atomic power station and maybe meet some babushkas on the way.

Avoid this Soviet Exclave!
If you look at a detailed map of Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia you will see some strange shapes appearing in the very south of the country. These are the Soviet formed exclaves belonging to both Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. They were formed in the 1950s to answer the question of what to do with small regions which were ethnically diverse from the Kyrgyz Republic the people had found themselves living in due to Stalin's map making.
These exclaves had always intrigued me and I wondered what life was like in them. However there is zero information online about visiting them. However I am always up for a wasted journey so I hired a car in northern Kyrgyzstan and drove 1000kms to one of these exclaves to see if foreigners were allowed to enter or not.

Evening Walk After Rain | Wet Lenina Street, Khabarovsk, Russia, 4k
I like to walk around the evening city after the rain. Traffic lights, shop windows and headlights of cars are reflected in the wet asphalt. The air is fresh and the streets are washed clean.
There are not many people as a big downpour has just ended.
The playground is unusually empty.
A light rain is still drizzling and I am walking under an umbrella.

Slavic Girl Takes Me Somewhere You've Never Heard Of...
Earlier this year myself and Alina tried entering an Uzbek exclave surrounded entirely by Kyrgyzstan. If you saw the video you will know that we were not allowed in. But we don't give up that easy...And so when we discovered that there was a new flight route started up from Uzbekistan to the unknown exclave of Sokh we decided we would have to investigate and try to get in somehow to see what lay there beyond the mountains. Oh and it just happened to mean flying on an old Soviet bi-plane. How could anyone resists such an adventure?!
Buckle up for a Soviet adventure in the mysterious land called Sokh.

Roslavl is an ancient town in Smolsensk Province, Russia.
The town was founded in 1137 by the Smolensk prince Rostislav Mstislavitch, hence the name.
Roslavl was chartered under Lithuanian rule in 1408. Under Polish rule Roslavl was part of the Smolensk Voivodeship. In the 1667 truce of Andrusovo the town was ceded from Poland to the Russian Empire……

На нашей планете не мало опасностей и мест где не стоило бы даже проходить мимо. Большинство таких мест создало само человечество своим поведением и наплевательским отношением к природе и окружающему миру, как правило места эти уже гиблые, почва там заражена тяжелыми и опасными для человека металлами, вода содержит всю таблицу Менделеева, а в лесах растет рыжий мох, впитавший в себя все яды вредного производства.
Одно из таких мест есть не далеко от Екатеринбурга всего в 200 км. г. Карабаш. Воздух в этом городе настолько тяжелый что буквально хватает 10 минут и у вас уже становиться тяжелое дыхание, а через 30 минут прибывания на территории начинает болеть голова а в орту появляется привкус какой то химии. Люди проезжают этот город с закрытыми окнами и на большой скорости.
Вот и я посетил этот город, что бы показать и рассказать о нем. Смотрите на этот город только на экране вашего монитора, приятного просмотра!

CHEAP ARCTIC Train World's Northernmost (Budget Travel Russia) Murmansk World's Largest Arctic City
Cheap Arctic train rides are at least an incentive to visit Russia's High Arctic and Murmansk world's largest Arctic city.
Not many choices toward leaving Russia's Far North when traveling on limited economic means. The overnight second-class train to Petrozavodsk meets Matt's budget and sense of adventure.
On one of the world's northernmost trains, the scenic route chugs through the tundra above the Arctic Circle. Let it be said though, after a while, the view does not change for hundreds of kilometers.
If the ride becomes dull, second-class trains in Russia are comfortable, not expensive and easy in which to sleep. But it cannot be emphasized enough passengers must entertain themselves. Oh, how Matt tries to pass the time when moving onto the next large city, Petrozavodsk.
Note: On June 1, 2020, the railway bridge linking Murmansk to the rest of Russia collapsed because of an ice flow. Train service had been suspended.
