What To Do In Rotterdam, The Netherlands
This video is a city guide and city tour of Rotterdam. You'll see my top 5 highlights of one of the most modern cities in Europe.
Above all, Rotterdam is a city with vision. It was very nearly completely destroyed during World War II and chose to see the devastating loss as an opportunity to innovate and build anew. The city was a blank slate for architects and artists. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes of war, this Dutch city has become a city of the future. Rotterdam is a centre for design, art, architecture, and sustainability. Locals joke that you should take a photo of the skyline today because it won't be the same tomorrow.
The Floating Forest is a great symbol of all that Rotterdam cultivates and inspires. It's an art installation of twenty live trees floating in the harbour. Rotterdam has the largest harbour in Europe and you can't talk about the city without reference to the water. The trees are recycled from the city's 'tree bank.' With all the new construction, trees are sometimes cut down in the march of progress. Now, instead of being chopped, they are moved to a tree bank for further use and enjoyment. The trees float in recycled sea buoys that are filled with fresh water to sustain the trees. The artist, Jorge Bakker, hopes the public art will get people talking about the relationship between the city dweller and nature. In this time of climate change and urbanization, this is relevant not only to Rotterdam but the entire world.
The Erasmus Bridge - Erasmusbrug, in Dutch - is the graceful link between northern and southern Rotterdam. Locals adore this steel-cabled suspension bridge and lovingly refer to it as 'the swan.'
Nearby the bridge, and across from the Fenix Food Factory, is Hotel New York. This is the former head office of the Holland America Line - the first shipping and passenger ship connecting the Netherlands and the United States. It was also the first connection between the two continents.
The newest architectural gem of Rotterdam is the Market Hall (Markthal). It's the first covered market in the Netherlands and is a masterful example of innovative multi-use space. Inside you'll find food vendors, shops, restaurants, parking for 1200 cars and over 200 residential apartments. The exterior is plain grey stone so as to draw attention to the interior which is dominated by the massive painting on the ceiling. Covering 11,000 square metres, it's the largest painting in the world and is known as the Sistine Chapel of Rotterdam.
Just across from the Markthal are the world-famous, iconic cube houses. Conceived and designed in the 1970s to solve the dilemma of housing above a pedestrian bridge, these atypical homes show, again, how Rotterdam answers limitation with innovation. The cube houses are meant to represent an abstract forest and are tilted at an angle that gives excellent views of the surrounding area. Ironically, however, because of the slanted walls and ceilings, only a quarter of the interior space is actually usable.

Deutschlands schöner Süden – da ragt natürlich die Zugspitze mit ihrer grandiosen Aussichtsplattform hervor. Tamina Kallert und Andrea Grießmann haben häufig Süddeutschland besucht. Es ging an den Chiemsee, durch den Schwarzwald oder nach Berchtesgaden. Mal waren sie mit dem Bähnle unterwegs, mal mit der Seilbahn, mit dem Schiff oder dem Fahrrad und häufig auch auf Schusters Rappen. Die Schlei – Naturparadies am Ostseefjord | WDR Reisen
Sie sieht aus wie ein Fluss. Tatsächlich ist die Schlei der längste Meeresarm der Ostsee: Er bietet an den Ufern und auf dem Wasser auf 42 Kilometer eine idyllische Ferienregion. Jo Hiller schippert mit dem Hausboot von Kappeln bis an die Spitze der Schlei nach Schleswig und macht sich dann auf dem Ostseeküstenradweg auf den Weg über Eckernförde zurück an die Ostsee. Er passiert kleine Fischerdörfer mit reetgedeckten Häusern wie das denkmalgeschützte Sieseby und Touristenzentren wie das Ostseebad Damp. Unterwegs trifft er Menschen, die an, mit und von der Schlei leben: Mit einem Berufsfischer spürt er der Fischfangtradition der Wikinger nach. Er besucht eine Fischräucherei und den Weltumsegler Wilfried Erdmann, der sich an der Schlei niedergelassen hat. Außerdem geht Jo Hiller auf die Suche nach dem Fernsehdorf Deekelsen, in dem jahrelang Der Landarzt seine Praxis hatte. Schauplätze dieses erfundenen Dorfes kann man heute noch besuchen: ein Café auf Gut Lindauhof sowie den Holländerhof Wagersrott mit seinem Rosengarten.
Die Schlei ist ein Meeresarm der Ostsee nördlich von Kiel in Schleswig-Holstein. Er ist rund 42 Kilometer lang und trennt die beiden Halbinseln Angeln und Schwansen voneinander. Bereits die Wikinger kannten den Seeweg der Förde und haben ihre Spuren hinterlassen. Das Wasser der Schlei ist sogenanntes Brackwasser, eine Mischung aus Süß- und Salzwasser. Die nur rund drei Meter tiefe Fahrrinne kann von großen Frachtern nicht befahren werden, was die vielen Segler und Wassersportler freut. Der Schaufelraddampfer Schlei-Prinzess und zwei weitere Ausflugsschiffe fahren auf der großen Tour von der Schleimünde bis Schleswig und wieder retour. In vielen Häfen kann man sich Hausboote mit und ohne Kapitän mieten, für den Urlaub oder nur für einen Tag. Manche der Hausboote liegen fest, mit anderen kann man mit maximal 15 km/h zwischen Schleswig und Kappeln touren. Wer selbst am Steuer stehen will, benötigt den Sportbootführerschein für Meeresgewässer. Die Schlei bietet also jede Menge Möglichkeiten diese einzigartige Region im Norden Deutschlands zu erkunden und zu erleben!

Road Trip From Germany to the Netherlands | Drive to Kapelle
We're driving from Wesseling, Germany to the Netherlands to visit family in Kapelle.

DBGC stond na 3 minuten al met 1-0 achter en moest in de achtervolging. Jeroen maakte 1-1 en Bas schoot voor rust de 1-2 keihard binnen.
Na rust maakte Bas snel de 1-3 en na een fout in de verdediging schoof Jeroen de 1-4 binnen.
DBGC moest hierna nog een half uur stand houden. De verdediging van DBGC kraakte en Roy hield een paar onmogelijke ballen uit het doel. Uiteindelijk trok DBGC de 1-4 over de streep.

Nijmegen: Top 5 plekken voor een geweldig dagje uit!
In deze Top 5 nemen we je mee langs de hoogtepunten van de oudste stad van ons land: Nijmegen! Heb jij altijd al een bezoekje willen brengen aan deze prachtige stad aan de Waal, dan mag je deze highlights niet missen!
We beginnen onze top 5 in het Valkhofpark, dat gelijk vanaf de Waalbrug al te zien is. In dit heuvelachtige park kun je oude ruïnes bewonderen en heb je een mooi panorama over de Waal. Vanaf het park lopen we naar onze nummer vierde, de oudste winkelstraat van Nederland, namelijk de Lange Hezelstraat. Nadat we een kijkje hebben genomen in de vele boetiekjes, stappen we zo in het groene hart van de stad: het Kronenburgerpark. Hier nemen we een kijkje bij de waterval en de bijzondere toren en en met de hit van Frank Boeijen in onze oren, stappen we richting het centrum voor de nummer twee van onze lijst. De Stevenskerk is dé eye-catcher van Nijmegen en een echte must-see! Er zijn regelmatig evenementen en onder begeleiding kun je ook nog eens de toren beklimmen om de stad van boven te bekijken. Na een geslaagde trip, sluiten we de dag af op de Grote Markt, het bruisende centrum van de stad. Hier kun je prachtige, historische gebouwen bewonderen zoals de eeuwenoude Waag en lekker neerploffen op een van de vele terrasjes.

Wir sind eine Woche in Zeeland, Kamperland und besuchen den Autostrand Westkapelle sowie den preisgekrönten Badestrand De Banjaard direkt am Oosterschelde Sperrwerk.

Im September 2021 besuchten wir mit unserem Wohnmobil Paul die niederländische Nordseeküste. Erstmalig übernachteten wir auf Minicamping Plätzen und waren sehr angenehm überrascht von der Lage und der Ausstattung. Im ersten Teil unserer Serie besuchten wir die Provinz Zeeland mit den Ortschaften Cadzand, Westkapelle, Scharendijk, Vlissingen, Brügge, Renesse, Buurg Hamstede, Brauersdamm, Veere, Breskens und vielen anderen. Zum Entspannen war es die richtige Zeit und es waren die richigen Orte. Wir waren mit dem Fahrrad unterwegs, was aber nicht unbedingt ein Muss ist. Besonders beeindruckt waren wir, dass wir mit unserem Wohnmobil, wenigstens tagsüber, direkt am Meer stehen konnten, aber seht selbst...... The beautiful province of Zeeland in The Netherlands in 1919 in color! Part-1 [Enhanced & colorized]
The province of Zeeland consists of a number of large islands in the South-West of The Netherlands. Part-1 of this film shows the simple and hard rural life of its inhabitants more than a century ago in 1919. At the time nearly all of them wore the traditional dress.
Characteristic are the two small golden reflectors that are worn at the side of the women's caps.
Some viewers have jokingly brandmarked them as satellite solar panels.
A tradition was to coupe horse's tails and beautify them with ribbons to be shown-off at local horse shows. Zeeland was and is primarily an agricultural area of The Netherlands. In the film women can be seen picking various fruit including goose berries.
Zeeland has had a long fight with the sea. Dikes and dunes often were not high or strong enough causing Zeeland to be flooded often during many centuries until in the 1960's the Dutch government executed the Delta plan. This involved closing-off the waters between the islands from the sea by means of large dams and huge sea locks.
In recent years it has become apparent that this is prohibiting fish like salmon to swim up the Dutch and German rivers to sperm. Therefore some of the sealockes are now opened slightly to let them pass through.
