This Man’s Village Butter Idli & Chutney Put PANDAVAPURA On The Map! SHIVAPPA IDLI Home, Darsaguppe

#benneidli #idlichutney #karnataka

shivappa benne idli, darsaguppe, near srirangapatna, village food, pandavapura, pandavapura idli, popular idli stop off mysore, mysuru, highway, village tradition, butter idli, chutney, putani chutney, mandya district, bangalore mysore highway, melukote, shivappa idli hotel, shivappa idli, hotel shivappa idli

Pandavapura, located on the state highway between Srirangapatna and Melukote in Mandya district of Karnataka, would perhaps not have registered as a breakfast stop on the traveller’s map, but for an idli shop that goes back over three decades. Actually, it isn’t even a shop, but a window in 60-something-year-old Shivappa’s home from where he dispenses freshly steamed idlis (only) with home churned butter for a few hours each morning. Travellers on the route, and even those who journey from afar just to eat here, line up outside the window, even before it is flung open at 7am.

Shivappa’s enterprise bears no signboard and he employs no one, preferring to do everything himself, from preparing the chutney and the butter to the soaking and grinding of the grain, the fermentation and steaming of the idlis, helped only by his wife. When you are here, you need to abide by his “seemingly authoritarian” rules - register your order, collect a token in exchange for your payment, and wait patiently for Shivappa to steam the idlis fresh and call your token number! This may seem like a bit of a drill, until you take a bite of the spicy chutney soaked idlis, and then it all seems to make sense. Like we discovered when we drove 130 kilometres from Bengaluru for breakfast recently. Hope you enjoy this episode; take care, stay safe and happy eating.

Idli Chutney Butter
Rs. 30/ 40/ 60 (usd 0.1) for 4/ 6/ 8 idlis respectively.
9/10
Rs. 10 for extra butter

Happy Eating!

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu Sir visited the World-famous Hampi Monuments & Tungabhadra Dam.

Hampi: A historical pilgrimage that fills you with a sense of pride

Our great nation’s glorious heritage, replete with architectural marvels, magnificent historical ruins, ancient religious places, forts and palaces always leave me spellbound. Like all states in India, Karnataka breathes History. Today, when I, along with my family members, visited the magnificent monuments in Hampi, Karnataka—a UNESCO World Heritage site, we were enthralled by the grandeur and glory of the Vijayanagara empire.

In the year 1336, two brothers Harihara Raya I and Bukka Raya I founded an independent kingdom in the territory between river Krishna and Tungabhadra, known as the celebrated Vijayanagara Empire. The Empire flourished for over two centuries and reached its golden age under the reign of the powerful king, Krishnadeva Raya. During this period, trade across the globe expanded and fields like, music, dance, literature, painting, sculpture and architecture saw a new high and left behind an indelible imprint in the sands of time. It was during this period that Telugu literature flourished reaching glorious heights. Vijayanagar became the most renowned metropolises of medieval India.

It should be remembered that Krishnadevaraya was a great litterateur-king, who composed the epic Telugu poem, Ámukta Malyada, which describes the anguish of estrangement experienced by Andal, the incarnate of Goddess Lakshmi, the consort of Lord Vishnu. The eight celebrated scholars and poets in the court of the emperor, Krishnadevaraya were collectively known as ‘Áshtadiggajas’ or eight literary titans. These great literary stalwarts, Alasani Peddanna, Nandi Thimmanna, Madayyagari Mallanna, Dhurjati, Ayyalaraju Ramambhadrudu, Pingali Suranna, Ramarajabhushanudu and Tenali Ramakrishna, together took Telugu literature and poetry to extraordinary heights of refinement and excellence. Stories of great kings like Sri Krishnadevaraya should be included in our history books prominently so as to inspire the younger generation.

Today many centuries later, the remains of forts, palaces, temples and marketplaces bear testimony to the glory of the Vijayanagar Empire. The King's Palace, Shrine of Garuda(Stone Chariot) Virupaksha Temple, Ganesha Images, Lakshminarasimha, Badavilinga, Vijaya Vithala Temple, Elephant Stables, Pushkarni, Lotus Mahal, Hazara Rama Temple, Mahanavami Dibba, Queen's Bath are some of the iconic examples of Hampi's wonders which reflect its splendour and magnificence and tell us eloquently that it was once a seat of majestic cultural greatness. Each monument has a certain kind of uniqueness which leaves us mesmerized.

In the evening, I watched an enthralling cultural performance by local artists. Equally mesmerizing was the light and sound show creatively narrating the stories relating to Hampi region from Puranas and Ramayana.

Our great nation, a cradle of ancient culture, boasts of many such historical sites which remind us of our rich and vibrant past. Our youth need to be made aware of this glorious history and rich cultural heritage. I would like to urge all educational institutions to organize students’ tours to places of historical prominence to enable them to be better acquainted with our rich and glorious heritage.

????Jai Hind!????????????

Siruguppa | Kenchanagudda | Hills | River Tungabhadra | Daily Observation | BALLARI District.

Siruguppa | Kenchanagudda | Hills | River Tungabhadra | Daily Observation | BALLARI District.

Kenchanagudda is a village in the southern state of Karnataka, India. The village is located in the Siruguppa taluk of Ballari district.River Tungabhadra flows through this village, branching into seven streams. There are also seven kattes (platforms constructed of stones around a wide tree where a group of people sit for a chit-chat). The place is surrounded by more than a dozen hills.
On the bank of the river there is the vrindavana (holy grave of Hindu saints, especially of those belonging to a matha or parampara(lineage)) of Sri Vasudhendra teertha who is the great grandson of Sri Raghavendra Swami. The Raghavendra mutt of Mantralayam administers the vrindavana. This place attracts Brahmin tourists from all over Karnataka. Every year, on the sixth, seventh and eighth days ( namely shashthi, saptami and ashtami) of the ashvayuja mãsa of the Hindu calendar, the aãradhane (anniversary of the day on which the saint entered the vrindavana alive) of Sri Vasudhendra teertha swamy is held in kenchanagudda.
The river here is known for its scenery. A song of the Kannada film Maanasa Sarovara titled Chanda Chanda was shot here.Remains of the era of Vijayanagara Empire are found around the village.
There is a hydro-electric power plant across one of the seven branches of the river. Kenchanagudda is located 5 km west of Siruguppa. There are two routes to kenchanagudda. When coming from Ballari along NH-150A, take a left besides a petrol bunk, just before entering Siruguppa. The road, headed towards Kampli reaches the kenchanagudda village after 4 km. From the village, a small road tangential off the right of the main road leads to the vrindavana.
