The most interesting thing about Kamphaeng Phet, Thailand.

To be honest, I was quite fond of the town of Kamphaeng Phet (even if I didn't learn how to pronounce the name properly until after I left).

And lots of features of the town qualify as very interesting, particularly everything connected with the ancient Sukhothai and Ayutthaya Kingdoms.

But there was one thing that stood out above the rest. And in this video, I set out to explore it.

Khet Aranyik- Forest District of Kamphaeng Phet's Historical Park (Thailand)

Journal Entry from this Day:

It took me a while to figure out how the historical park in Kamphaeng Phet was organized or even where the entrances were and what was inside the different sections.

But after some intensive reading and looking at maps, I finally had it straight in my head, and I decided to start with a visit to the Forest District, which they call Khet Aranyik in Thai.

This section is located just a bit on the edges of Kamphaeng Phet, as opposed to the Inner District (Khet Nai), which is located right downtown. But it was a simple matter to get there on my scooter.

I'm not sure what my expectations were for Khet Aranyik, but whatever they were, they were far exceeded. I had a great day exploring the temple ruins. I hope this video captures some of the amazing things that I saw.

Historical Park - Kamphaeng Phet - Thailand

The Ping River courses through the Kamphaeng Phet Park, a UNESCO-recognized World Heritage Site which is comprised of a diverse array of ancient monuments. A common aesthetic runs through the various ruins, which include temples, pagodas and fallen towns, resulting in a beautiful blend of contemporary Sukhothai and Ayutthaya styles. Also noteworthy is the variety of materials used at each site: the eastern bank is home to larger architecture built with laterite in contrast to the smaller, brick-made monuments in the west bank's Nakhon Chum town. The ruins of city walls and ancient fortifications reveal the town's rectangular shape, some 300-700 meters wide and 2,200 meters long. The principal Chedi (or stupa) of Wat Phra Kaeo stands proud in its center, adorned with lions. Nearby, other majestic Chedis stand guard. More historic sights are located at the Aranyik Area, 2 kilometers northwest of Kamphaeng Phet town, an important place for forest-dwelling monks to meditate and reflect. The park is approximately 5 kilometers away from Kamphaeng Phet town at Km. 360, on the left of Kamphaeng Phet - Phran Kratai route. The park is open from 9.00 a.m.-5.00 p.m.

Thainess, Kamphaeng Phet, Thailand

On the east bank of the Ping River, Kamphaeng Phet was a satellite town of Sukhothai, an outpost buffer against the Burmese intrusion. Major attractions includes Kamphang Phet historical park which features several temples and a museum. The western areas are made up of high mountains lush with fertile forests where a number of national parks have been established.

KAMPHAENG PHET, North Thailand (Nakhon Chum Market Area) THAILAND 4K WALK TOUR !

On this Thailand 4k walk tour I visit Nakhon Chum Market, Kamphaeng Phet. I walked there in November last year just after the rains, so flood damage is quite noticeable at the start of the walk. An interesting area of Kamphaeng Phet in North Thailand with markets and beautiful old traditional Thai houses. I hope you enjoy.

First Look at Historical Kamphaeng Phet: Wat Ka Lo Thai (Sukhothai Kingdom - Thailand)

I was on my way to the National Museum in the city of Kamphaeng Phet, when I happened to ride past an interesting set of ruins.

I'd planned to visit the museum first and then go to see the ruins afterwards, but since I just happened to stumble across this place, it seemed like a sign that I should stop and take a closer look.

I was very glad that I did, particularly because there was a helpful information sign in English. This sign gave me just enough information to begin to appreciate what I was looking at. It was a good way to start my explorations of this historical city.

Khet Nai - Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park, Inner District (Thailand)

The Inner District of Kamphaeng Phet's Historical Park is called Khet Nai. It is smaller than the Forest District but contains large and historically significant temple ruins.

The National Museum is just outside of the official park boundaries, as are the old city walls and fortifications. A visit to those could be combined with exploring the temple ruins if you have the energy.

In this video, I visit Wat Phrathat and Wat Phra Kaeo, the two main attractions in the Historical Park.

MESSAGE FROM PLANET DOUG:
Thanks for checking out this video. I'm making videos about my life experiences, thoughts, and occasional travels. Whether I’m on the move or staying in one place for a bit, I tend to have a somewhat low-budget lifestyle, staying in simple guest houses and spending my time exploring on foot or sometimes on a scooter or bicycle.

Wat Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park Thailand Video Review.10

Wat Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park Thailand Video Review.

Cycle Touring Kamphaeng Phet, Thailand - Ep# 158

My monkey but calls for a days rest at Kamphaeng Phet in northern Thailand. I explore the ruins and then continue the ride towards Myanmar.
I'm travelling around the planet without ever using motorized transport. I started this journey in Toronto, Canada in July of 2015 and intend to circumnavigate back to where I started. Enjoy the Routes of Change Adventure Travel Vlog Series and binge watch all 100+ Episodes from the beginning here :

In this weekly adventure travel series (New video every Sunday) I will share my day to day experiences of what it’s like to travel around the earth under my own power (and plenty of help from people and the wind). Loads of epic adventure videos I’m happy to share with you.

Your support is much appreciated.

SPOILER ALERT:!!

I started the journey in a canoe and have since trimaraned, hand cycled, pogosticked, tricycled, skiied, rafted, kayaked, SUPed, rowed, bicycled, sailed, walked, and danced half way around the planet.

Getting Smarter at the Kamphaeng Phet National Museum (Kamphaeng Phet, Thailand)

I always enjoy a museum visit, and the Kamphaeng Phet National Museum was no exception. I had a very pleasant experience, and I came away much more knowledgeable about Kamphaeng Phet and the Sukhothai Kingdom than when I went in. And that was all I needed.

Voyage en Thaïlande : Kamphaeng Phet

Moins connu, le parc historique de Kamphaeng Phet est classé à l'UNESCO. la ville est aussi très agréable. Un de mes coups de coeur !
