Gdynia is a port city in northern Poland. Gdynia, together with nearby Gdańsk and Sopot are often referred as Tricity (pl: Trójmiasto). Gdynia is one of the youngest and most modern cities in Poland. In the early 1900s Gdynia was a little village, but after WW1 and the establishing of the Free City of Gdańsk, the Polish Government decided to build a deep-sea port. Construction began in 1921.
The city rose fast in the 1920s and 1930s, so the architecture and planning reflect European trends of the day - Modernism. The city continues to grow to this day. Today, Gdynia is a modern city with a population of a quarter-million and is the second major Polish port on the Baltic Sea after Gdańsk.
Gdynia is a relatively modern city and one will not find many historical buildings. The oldest building in Gdynia is 13th century St. Michael Archangel's Church in Oksywie. There is also a 17th century neo-Gothic manor house located in the Folwarczna Street in Orłowo. However, what most tourists look for Gdynia deals with its recent past.
In the harbour there are two museum ships anchored, the ORP 0Błyskawica destroyer and the Dar Pomorza Tall Ship frigate. Gdynia is also famous for its numerous examples of early 20th century architecture, especially monumentalism and early functionalism. Recently reconstructed Świętojańska street and Kościuszki square are also worth mentioning. The surrounding hills and the coastline attract many nature lovers.
Leisure pier and cliff-like coastline in Kępa Redłowska as well as the surrounding Reservation Park are also popular. 1.5 kilometres long promenade leads from the marina in the city centre to the beach in Redłowo. Most of Gdynia can be seen from Kamienna Góra (54 metres asl) or a newly built observation point near Chwaszczyno. You can also take hydrofoil or ship trip to Gdańsk Westerplatte, Hel or just see port.
Gdynia is the only city in Poland and one of the few in Europe to pride itself on such long and accessible seashore. You will easily catch great views of the sea, and also find long promenades, beautiful waterfronts, marinas, yacht clubs and great sand beaches.
Plaża Miejska (city beach) is located in the center, next to Gdynia Marina and Bulwar Nadmorski (Seaside Promenade). Plaża w Orłowie is located in Orłowo District, next to beautiful Orłowo cliffs. Reach by SKM Gdynia Orłowo or trolleybus lines 21 and 26. Osada Rybacka (Fishermen Village) is a quite wild beach located in Oksywie district - besides suntanning, you can see beautiful, old fishermen equipment and a funicular for fish transport.
For Sightseeing in Gdynia:
Kamienna Góra with nice panoramic view, also possible to see Hel peninsula.
Cliff and wooden pier in Orłowo. Reach by SKM Gdynia Orłowo or trolleybus lines 21 and 26.
Trójmiejski park krajobrazowy (Tricity Sightseeing Park) - a forest-park surrounding all Tricity, with many sightseeing spots.
Bulwar Nadmorski (Seaside Promenade).
For Nature in Gdynia:
Dąbrowa. A beautiful swamp and lakes area in Dąbrowa district. It has a protected area status.
Maria's Spring. A beautiful spring area with swamps in Wielki Kack district. The spring has its beginning near small chapel.
Kępa Redłowska Natural Reserve. A forest reserve on shore located in Redłów district.

Gdynia is a city in northern Poland. Located on Gdańsk Bay on the southern coast of the Baltic Sea, it is a major seaport and the second-largest city in Pomeranian Voivodeship after Gdańsk. Gdynia has a population of 246,348, which makes it the twelfth-largest city in Poland. It is part of a conurbation with the spa town of Sopot, the city of Gdańsk, and suburban communities, which together form a metropolitan area called the Tricity (Trójmiasto), with a population of over 1,000,000 people.

Gdynia is a port city on the Baltic coast of Poland. It’s known for its modernist buildings, including the Museum of the City of Gdynia, which has exhibits about local history. Kościuszki Square, with a distinctive fountain as its center, leads to the waterfront. The WWII destroyer ORP Błyskawica and 1909 tall ship Dar Pomorza, now museums, are moored on the Southern Pier. Sharks and piranhas inhabit Gdynia Aquarium. ― Google

Gdynia is one of the youngest Polish cities on the Baltic coast of the country. As part of the of the tricity area with Gdansk and Sopot fewer tourists visit Gdynia yet the city plays an important role as one of Poland’s major seaports.
We start our afternoon tour at Gdynia's main train station (Gdynia Główna). We pass the Monument to Displaced Gdynians (Pomnik Gdynian Wysiedlonych) and turn from Starowiejska street to 3 Maja. We pass a church (Kościół pw. Najświętszego Serca Pana Jezusa) and eventually head to the Park im. Marii i Lecha Kaczyńskich uphill.
Heading up there to the view point with the cross (Krzyż Kamienna Góra) takes some breath. Few people are around as it's a pubic holidy today. The cross at the viewpoint can be seen also from other districts. We check the view and walk down again on our way to sea with one of the sandy beaches of Gdynia.
There at the sea the seagulls enjoy some meal on this windy day. The tour continues around the marina with small boats to big ships. On our way back from the waterfront to the city centre we pass the Kościuszki Square, with a distinctive fountain as its center.

W 1920 roku Polska, po latach zaborów i braku własnej państwowości, wróciła nad Bałtyk. Niewielki skrawek wybrzeża był jednak zupełnie niezagospodarowany. Mimo to, wizjonerstwo grupy ówczesnych polityków oraz ekspertów branży morskiej, pozwoliło na zbudowanie własnego portu, otwierającego Polskę na świat. Tadeusz Wenda, który nie tylko wskazał miejsce jego realizacji, ale także zaprojektował i nadzorował budowę, stworzył dzieło, które pozwoliło na rozwój gospodarczy kraju oraz rozwinięcie żeglugi i handlu zamorskiego. Port był dumą i chlubą nie tylko rządzących, ale całego społeczeństwa II Rzeczypospolitej. Specyficzne okoliczności i warunki, jakie zaistniały w odrodzonym po I wojnie światowej państwie, spowodowały konieczność skupienia się Polaków na inwestycjach morskich. Budowa portu dawała szanse pracy i samorealizacji ogromnej grupie przedstawicieli inteligencji technicznej, specjalistów różnych dziedzin, ale także zwykłych robotników. Miasto, które tu wyrosło stało się symbolem nowoczesności, przedsiębiorczości i chlubą II Rzeczypospolitej.
Będąc nad morzem możecie nie wiedzieć o wielu ciekawostkach związanych z okolicą. Nie inaczej jest w przypadku Gdyni!
Bez wątpienia jedną z nich jest to, że na jeden z najlepszych punktów widokowych w Gdyni można już szybko i łatwo wjechać... kolejką. Podróż trwa zaledwie 2 minuty. Koniecznie sprawdźcie więc co oferuje kolejka prowadząca na Kamienną Górę!

This is because I am the publisher of Central and Eastern European Packaging -- - the international platform for the packaging industry in this region focusing on the latest innovations, trends, design, branding, legislation and environmental issues with in-depth profiles of major industry achievers.
Most people may think packaging pretty boring but it possibly effects your life more than you really imagine!
Central and Eastern European Packaging examines the packaging industry throughout this region, but in particular in the largest regional economies which are Russia, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Austria. That is not to say that the other countries are forgotten, they are not, but obviously there is less going on. However the fact that there are so many travel related films here is not from holidays but from business trips attending trade fairs around the region. Every packaging trade fair is a new excuse to make another film!

Join me and Asia to Gdynia, the final stop and last city of our Tri-City adventure in Poland. We explore Gdynia's historic harbor and check out a WW2 frigate turned museum.
