China, the gateway to East Asia, is a fascinating country. It is an ancient civilization that gave the world Peking Man, gunpowder and noodles. Visitors making their first trip to China usually stick to the larger cities. More experienced visitors to the Middle Kingdom will strike out in other directions, where traveling may be a bit more frustrating because of the language barrier, but most definitely doable for independent travelers. Visiting a MUSLIM TOWN in Southern Yunnan - Great Halal Food and nice people | EP21, S2

In this episode, I visited a muslim town near Jianshui in Yunnan Province.
Shadian is only 1 hour away from Jianshui, and it inhabits 100 percent Hui minorities.
Shadian mosque is said to be the biggest mosque in south-eastern China, and it is quite impressive. Coming back from Shadian, I visited the halal night market in Jianshui.

China is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating countries in the world and for any tourist a real gem. Tourism has grown a lot here and continues to grow year after year. In fact, it has replaced Spain as the third most visited tourist destination (the list is headed by France and in second place is the United States). And the truth is that it has what it takes because it is a country with many wonders, natural landscapes and true historical-cultural treasures.

One of them is undoubtedly the Great Wall . It is impossible for you to visit China and not take a tour of one of the sections closest to the capital. Even if you dare, you can go further and discover sections that are not very touristy. The feeling of being there, standing, and with the landscape around you, is overwhelming. There are four sections of the Great Wall that are the most popular and visited by tourists, so let's see today a brief guide to each of them

Quanzhou Kaiyuan Temple 2 췐저우(천주) 개원사 2 泉州开元寺 2

#泉州 #开元寺 #개원사

Kaiyuan Temple (simplified Chinese: 开元寺; traditional Chinese: 開元寺; pinyin: Kāiyuán Sì; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Khai-gôan-sī) is a Buddhist temple located in West Street, Quanzhou, China, and is considered as the largest Buddhist temple in Fujian province with an area of 78,000 square metres (840,000 sq ft).[1][2] Kaiyuan Temple was one of the few surviving Hindu temples in Mainland China.

Kaiyuan Temple, Quanzhou, China Kai元temple, Q u按周

On a rainy day we visited the Kaiyuan Temple 開元寺; Kaiyuan Si; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Khai-gôan-sī), also known as the Ziyun Hall 紫雲堂; Zǐyún táng; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Chí-hûn-tông), is a Buddhist temple on West Street, Quanzhou, China, the largest in Fujian province.

Although it is known as a Hindu-Buddhist temple, on account of added Tamil-Hindu influences, the main statue in the most important hall is that of Vairocana Buddha, the main Buddha according to Huayen-buddhism. What is now called the Mahavira Hall (Mahavira - the Great and Strong) is in fact the Vairocana Hall.

It was originally built in 685 or 686 during the Tang Dynasty. Behind its main hall Mahavira Hall”, there are some columns with fragments from a Shiva temple built in 1283 by the Tamil community in Quanzhou dedicated to Hindu God Shiva.

The carvings are dispersed across five primary sites in Quanzhou and the neighboring areas. They were made in the South Indian style, and share close similarities with 13th-century temples constructed in the Chola Nadu region in Tamil Nadu. Nearly all of the carvings were carved with greenish-gray granite, which was widely available in the nearby hills and used in the region's local architecture.

In 1983, the Kaiyuan Temple was designated as a national temple.

[4K China] Walking In Quanzhou, Historical And Cultural City In Southern China

???? [Intro]
Quanzhou, alternatively known as Chinchew, is a prefecture-level port city on the north bank of the Jin River, beside the Taiwan Strait in southern Fujian, China. It is Fujian's largest metropolitan region, with an area of 11,245 square kilometers (4,342 sq mi) and a population of 8,782,285 as of the 2020 census. Its built-up area is home to 6,669,711 inhabitants, encompassing the Licheng, Fengze, and Luojiang urban districts; Jinjiang, Nan'an, and Shishi cities; Hui'an County; and the Quanzhou District for Taiwanese Investment. Quanzhou was China's 12th-largest extended metropolitan area in 2010.

Quanzhou was China's major port for foreign traders, who knew it as Zaiton,[a] during the 11th through 14th centuries. It was visited by both Marco Polo and Ibn Battuta; both travelers praised it as one of the most prosperous and glorious cities in the world. It was the naval base from which the Mongol attacks on Japan and Java were primarily launched and a cosmopolitan center with Buddhist and Hindu temples, Islamic mosques, and Christian churches, including a Catholic cathedral and Franciscan friaries. A failed revolt prompted a massacre of the city's foreign communities in 1357. Economic dislocations—including piracy and an imperial overreaction to it during the Ming and Qing—reduced its prosperity, with Japanese trade shifting to Ningbo and Zhapu and other foreign trade restricted to Guangzhou. Quanzhou became an opium-smuggling center in the 19th century but the siltation of its harbor hindered trade by larger ships.

Because of its importance for medieval maritime commerce, unique mix of religious buildings, and extensive archeological remains, the old town of Quanzhou was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2021.
