A Srilankan Food Fest was held for 3 days at Karur KRV Meridian hotel. Costing 499 INR per head, the Srilankan food fest was a spread of many food items from the Srilankan menu…
Though few food items were not Srilankan, Justice was done to much Srilankan food that had its original flavours….
The welcome drink was a tender coconut and a kamban kool ( Pearl millet gruel)
Though the kamban kool is not a part of the Srilankan food it tasted good.
The buffet started off with a herbal soup which was a simple soup with lots of coriander, mint and curry leaves… it tasted ok
Then to start there were sambol scotched boiled eggs, fish patties, squid fry and banana flower fry. The fish patties and the squid fry tasted excellent. The banana flower fry tasted like a normal pakkoda.
Then there was puttu which was ragi puttu.. the ragi puttu is usually not seen in Srilankan.. people there prefer puttu made of maida or red rice. This puttu with a channa curry is more of a Kerala dish.
Then there was brown rice which is also not a Srilankan menu.., people consume red rice in Srilanka.. there is a variety of rice called the red naadu which is mostly used along with samba variety and keeri samba variety. They also had this yellow flavoured rice which tasted good...
There were a few vegetable gravy dishes like drumstick gravy, mixed vegetables gravy, and mango curry.
The coconut stew chicken curry and lamb curry were very excellent .. the chicken meat was so tender and tasted awesome.
The prawn curry was also good.
They had coin parotta which you don’t see in Srilanka.., They could have kept the Srilankan coconut roti which is the most consumed dish in Srilanka…
At the live counter, they had appam with coconut sambol, seeni sambol, nethili sambol.. the appam was more of Indian style, because the Srilankan appam is crisper .. the seeni sambol was exactly like the Srilankan seeni sambol…they also had kothu parotta in the live counter and it also tasted good.
For dessert, there was wattalappam and pancake. The wattalappam was extremely good and had the original Srilankan flavours. The pancake was stuffed with coconut and jaggery stuffing and topped with honey which was also superb…

The town formed a part of the traditional Chera and Chola empires and has a number of exquisitely sculpted temples. Karuvurar born in medieval Karur, is one among the nine devotees who sung the divine Music Thiruvichaippa, which is the ninth Thirumurai. He is the single largest composer among the nine authors of Thiruvichaippa. He lived during the reign of the Chola king Raja Raja Chola I. In addition to the Pasupatheeswarar Siva temple, there is a Vishnu temple at Thiruvithuvakkodu suburb of Karur, sung by famous Kulasekaraazhvaar (7th-8th century). The same temple is presumably mentioned in epic Silappadikaram as Adaha maadam Ranganathar whose blessings Cheran Senguttuvan sought before his north Indian expedition.

Kalyana Pasupateeswarar temple | Karur district temples | Temples Sight Seeing
Pasupateeswarar temple, Karur is located in karur and is one of the seven Sivastalams in Kongu Nadu. This city was called karuvoor during the time of Sambandar's visit to this temple. From the inscriptions so far deciphered, it is clear that the temple existed during the reign of the king Rajendra Chola(Eag1e clan) (1012-54 A.D.) since he gifted away land to this temple. For the Kongu Cholas and Kongu Pandyas, the temple was a favourite and, it the drew undivided attention of the Vijayanagar rulers too..
Karur Pasupateeswarar temple
Legend says that Kamadhenu, the mythological cow, meditated upon Siva to receive his blessings and the name Aanilai. Brahma is said to have worshipped the presiding deity here. Thus the Sthala Theertham is called the Brahma Theertham.
The temple at Karuvoor is built on a 2.65 acres (10,700 m2) site. The front Gopuram is 120 feet (37 m) in height. The presiding deity in the main shrine (Moolvar) is a swayambu lingam. He is called Pasupateeswarar or Aanilaiappar. There are two images of Ambal here, Sundaravalli and Alankaravalli. The shrine of female deity Sundaravalli is facing south. Images of mythological characters are found on the tower. There are 2 corridors inside the temple. The 100 pillar mandapam is a prominent portion of the temple.

It is one of the shrines of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams. Sundarar and Sambandar composed Thevaram Pathigam in this temple.
Pradosha or Pradosham (IAST: Pradoṣa) is a bimonthly occasion on the thirteenth day of every fortnight in the Hindu calendar. It is closely connected with the worship of Hindu god Shiva. The auspicious 3 hour period, 1.5 hours before and after the sunset is one of the optimum time for worship of Lord Shiva.

A friend suggested this place to me. He said the Biryani is good and they have many branches. So i thought to give it a try. At first when i went to one of their branches , it was so crowded at the parcel counter. People were waiting to get parcels. There was chicken biryani, mutton biryani, pepper chicken, chicken palipalayam, and deep fried dishes like chicken leg piece, lollipop, quail etc., The biryani here is good for the price. Affordable biryani and the quantity was more too.Cost of chicken biryani is 70/ rs. They serve Biryani for lunch, as well as dinner. So if you are a biryani fan and you want good biryani at economical rates then this is the place for you.

Kolli Hills or Kolli Malai is a small mountain range located in Central Tamil Nadu and spread over the namakal district and Trichy district of India. The mountains rise to 1300 m in height and cover an area of approximately 280km. It is situated at a distance of 43 km from namakal and 120 km from Trichy. They are part of the eastern ghats, which is a mountain range that runs mostly parallel to the east coast of Southern India. The mountain is a site of pilgrimage, because of the arapaliswar temple, but the area is also popular with Motor cycle enthusiasts because of the high altitude motor-able terrain with 72 hair pin Bends.
The region was ruled by valvil ori around 200 CE, who is praised as one of the seven great philanthropists of ancient Tamil Nadu. His valor and marksmanship are sung by several poets, and his exploits are a popular part of folklore. Ori is said to have killed a lion, bear, deer and a boar with a single arrow. The hills are said to be guarded by kollipavai also called as Ettukai Amman the local deity. According to legend, the sages chose Kolli hills when they were looking for a peaceful place to do their penance. However, the demons invaded the hills to disrupt the penance when the sages began their rituals. The sages prayed to kollipavai, who according to the myth, chased away the demons with her enchanting smile. The kollipavai hills is still worshipped by the people here and her smile is revered.
The Kollimalai Hills are known for medicinal herbs and plants that grow in abundance on the hill slopes. The Arapaleswarar Temple, the Horticulture Farm, the Herbal Farm, Agaya Gangaiwaterfalls, Boat house, Peryaswamy Temple, Ettukai Amman Temple, Pineapple farms, View Point and the Telescope House are the places to visit for the interested tourist. Attukalkilangu soup and raw was selling in this hills .This is very taste and good Medician for knee pain. The Valvil Ori festival is organised here every year during the month of August.

This eatery or night hotel is situated near kannan departmental stores on the coimbatore main road in karur.There is a small road adjacent to kannan departmental stores , if you walk into it you can find Ramasamy Tiffin Stall to the right. This night hotels starts at 5.30 in the evening and runs upto 10.30 pm. All the non veg dishes tastes good here. my favourite was the kal dosai. The country chicken fry was very soft. If you are around this area make sure you try this place.

Grill nights is a franchise that has been started in Karur by two youngsters. Situated in the lighthouse round corner area next to the LVB ATM, Grill Night serves dishes like the Paani Puri shawarma, different varieties of shawarma, barbecue chicken dishes, Chinese dishes ., etc
The Paani Puri shawarma is the shawarma meat that is stuffed into the Puri and filled with Mayonnaise .... a different dish that is a must-try.
The plate shawarma that I tried also was fabulous.., the chicken meat was finely minced to a paste and it tasted awesome, this too is a definite to-try dish.
The Bbq chicken wings had a mild spiciness to it and were very juicy.., dipping the chicken wings in Mayonnaise and tasting it was heaven.
The noodles too which was Mexican noodles were good.., they had a different taste, which I liked.
The only downside was the biryani which did not convince me and I don’t recommend it.
Grill Nights is a place of shawarmas and barbecues and I strongly recommend you to try them and find out for yourself.
