Juba is the capital and largest city of South Sudan. The city is situated on the White Nile and also serves as the capital of the Central Equatoria State. It is the most recently declared national capital and had a population of 500,000 in 2017.
It became the world's newest national capital on 9 July 2011, when South Sudan formally declared its independence from the Republic of the Sudan.
Juba has been described as undergoing an economic boom, especially in the past five years and since independence. The prospect of an economic boom has brought thousands of merchants to Juba, mostly from northern Sudan and from East Africa.
Despite recent economic difficulties brought about by the 15 December 2013 civil war, Juba has continued to grow and construction is still booming. This is probably due to the high demand for affordable housing and hotel accommodations.

Juba is the fastest-growing capital city in Africa, with a population that has boomed from barely more than 100,000 people in 2005 to more than one million today.

In 2011, Sudan broke into 2 separate countries. Sudan in the north and South Sudan in the South... They are completely different in every way possible.
I have spent the last 48 hours in Juba, the capital city of South Sudan, and it has been one of the most interesting and eye opening trips of my entire life.
Thankfully, was able to get in touch with some awesome locals through social media and they've been showing me around and making sure I'm safe. I say this because South Sudan is not the safest country around Africa -- it's been in a constant state of war since its existence 8 years ago. But things now seem to be much more stable than the past, and the future is bright for this oil rich country in Central/East Africa.

Sudan, officially the Republic of Sudan, is a country in Northeast Africa. It is bordered by Egypt to the north, the Red Sea to the northeast, Eritrea to the east, Ethiopia to the southeast, South Sudan to the south, the Central African Republic to the southwest, Chad to the west, and Libya to the northwest.
It houses 37 million people and occupies a total area of 1,861,484 square kilometers, making it the third-largest country in Africa. Sudan's predominant religion is Islam, and its official languages are Arabic and English. The capital is Khartoum, located at the confluence of the Blue and White Nile. The history of Sudan goes back to the Pharaonic period, witnessing the kingdom of Kerma, the subsequent rule of the Egyptian New Kingdom and the rise of the kingdom of Kush, which would in turn control Egypt itself for nearly a century.
