10 Best place to visit in Jipijapa Ecuador

The Most UNIQUE Ceviche in Jipijapa Manabi | Ecuador

Visiting the most famous restaurant for Jipijapa Manabi Ceviche with mani or peanut paste.
Ecuadorian ceviche is delicious but in Jipijapa Ecuador on the coast they make it a bit different with peanut paste - which is often described as peanut butter but is really more of a paste.
So I went to El Refugio restaurant in Jipijapa to try it and while it may seem strange to have ceviche with peanut it is just a nice foundation for flavour. I definitely recommending stopping in to try it at Cevicheria El Refugio.

HUECAS! Best Food in MANTA Ecuador on a Budget ???????????? | MANABI

Food in Manta, the fishing capital of Ecuador, doesn't have to be expensive. Here are 5 traditional restaurants in Manta selling delicious cheap eats.

I wanted to share this video because when I asked about huecas in Manta, most foreigners didn't have suggestions for me. I'm so lucky in Cuenca that there's a strong culture of huecas, traditional hole in the wall restaurants that serve authentic food at great prices.

But it's not just about being cheap, at these places you'll see manual labourers next to people in expensive suits. It's all about the food and of course the aji.

But I discovered Manta has this culture as well, and thankfully Andres asked Ecuadorians for their suggestions we had amazing food in Manta

SAN JACINTO Manabi, So charming I forgot about San Clemente | Ecuador

San Clemente may be popular with expats but neighbouring San Jacinto in Manabi has an infectious local energy.

The great thing is you don't have to choose, San Jacinto, San Alejo and San Clemente are small villages along the same stretch of beautiful beach in Ecuador.

Kimberly, the owner of The Cottages by the Sea ( invited us to come stay with her if we were ever traveling through the region and I'm so glad we did!

The cottages are an oasis! And perfectly situated in San Alejo so you can walk a few blocks to the right and arrive in San Clemente or a few blocks to the left in San Jacinto.

I intended to spend time in all three but I really enjoyed San Jacinto the most so I always wanted to walk left. While San Jacinto isn't as pretty, it has fantastic local food and you can watch the fishermen come in.

If you want to take a mangrove tour at La Boca they are run by official guides. Pascual was great. He only speaks Spanish but even if you don't understand it's a beautiful view and both he and the boat driver point out birds and iguanas +593 98 898 8583

The Good, Bad and Ugly of Playas de Villamil ECUADOR

Playas is actually short for Villamil Playas because Playas just means beach. So, if you look at beaches in Ecuador, it's going to be very difficult to find on a map.

It's Guayaquil’s Independence Day this weekend. And so the coast should be packed. But hopefully not too packed.

We negotiated $4 for an umbrella and two chairs on the Playas de Villamil beach.

Lots of really great things to eat here. We’ve got lots of vendors. You never have to move. You’ve got bollo. We’ve got corviche. People have cocktails. They've got beer. They've got ice cream. You don't have to go anywhere. My only complaints is this beach is so dirty.

It's so full of garbage. It ‘s really sad, it's really, really sad. Because it's actually quite nice. If they just had someone to clean up the beach.
They've done such a nice job with this boardwalks, it’s beautiful. And all of the little restaurants along it...look fantastic. They just forgot about cleaning up the beach.

We were actually feeling like having some snacks.

And we realized that none of the restaurants around here had like corviche or bollo or like the snacks that you would just have if you were just a little bit hungry.

But if you want to get it, it's through the vendors on the beach. So there's this kind of like, snacks are on the beach and then main plates are in the restaurant.

And that's because all of those snacks, which like the bollo and the corviche and all of these other things, that takes time to make. So they make it in advance and then just sell it until it's done.

A few streets off the beach in Playas there are empanadas shops with both shrimp and seafood empanasas. I'm not sure why they are called ampanadas Chilenas as they don't look like empanadas in Chile but I'm not going to argue about it.

You can't leave Playas without having breakfast here. And that's because this area right here is known for it's oysters. You can get some small, you can get them gigantic.

We ordered breakfast at Ceviche Mary Luz y Don Enrique, the owners actually came by to welcome us here. And his daughter Becksy bought us a plate of these clams on the house to try. So clams, broiled with cheese, some chifle, which are patacone chips or plantain chips and a little bit of lime.

Our breakfast is $3 for bolon de verde, a coffee and some egg. Coffee here just comes as hot water and we're going to put some of this instant in it. We are not in the Andes anymore with great coffee. But it doesn’t matter because look at this, this is a fried green plantain.

It's called bolon de verde. It's the size of a baseball. And I got a fried egg. Oh the eggs here in Ecuador. This breakfast is amazing.

These were amazing. And then this is the bolon de verde. So it's green plantain. It's got cheese in the middle, served with an egg and some coffee for three dollars. Such a bargain.

Is Bahia de Caraquez the new, improved Salinas? | ECUADOR

Bahia de Caraquez is a beautiful town on a peninsula that is becoming more popular with foreigners for good reason.

Just north of Manta it's actually an estuary that has a river beach on one side and an ocean on the other. All the photos I'd seen make it look like a city similar to Salinas so I was surprised to see it was more like a lovely town.

We stayed 3 nights in Coco Bongo, which we loved, and I'd recommend. Bahia really grew on us. There isn't a lot of things to do in town but it's a great beach town if you just want to relax.

Wandering Around Portoviejo | Backpacking | Ecuador | South America

Today I take you on a journey through Portoviejo Ecuador. We start in the central park allowing us to have a peek inside two churches. We later pass through a large, green natural park inside the city before venturing through one of the poorest neighborhoods in the city, to a viewpoint overlooking the city. Come on along.

Cheese in Ecuador - QUESO FRESCO & Where to Find Good Cheddar

Cheese in Ecuador is usually queso fresco, or fresh cheese. It's not aged, it's soft and moist, it doesn't really melt, but it's great if used properly. Ecuadorians eat it raw for breakfast, they use it in soups or locros. They sprinkle it on things like bananas and corn on the cob. They even put it in their hot chocolate.

In this video, I'm showing you cheese dishes in Ecuador. I'll take you to an old school cafe for an Ecuadorian specialty dessert - dulce de higos con queso (sweet figs with cheese), we'll head to the market to buy some fresh cheese, and I'll even show you my choice for the best cheddar option in Ecuador.*

Ecuadorians love cheese. If you travel to Ecuador you'll surely get to try some of their local fresh cheese, and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
