Walking Around Kinmen's Jincheng (Kinmen, Taiwan)
Jincheng Township / 金城鎮 is an urban township on the southwestern corner of the island of Kinmen (Quemoy) and is the county seat of Kinmen County.
The town contains Jicheng Old Street for food and Mofan Street / 模範街 which means Model Street - its name comes from the uniform hybrid architecture of Chinese and Western styles. The construction of the street started in 1924 when the President of Kinmen Junior Chamber Fu His-chi held a fundraising drive among overseas Chinese. The street was completed in 1925. The 75 meter long street features buildings with brick exteriors and arched door fronts modeled after the Japanese, Fujian and Western architecture. There are 16 buildings at each side connected by a common arcade.
The Kinmen Military Headquarters of Qing Dynasty / 清金門鎮總兵署 is also a museum in Jincheng Township. The building was originally built as a study place for a scholar during the Ming Dynasty under the name Cong Qing Xuan. It was then transformed into the Kinmen Military Headquarters of Qing Dynasty during the rule of the Kangxi Emperor when Commander of Kinmen relocated his office from Jinmencheng to Jincheng due to a situation change and loss of population in Jinmencheng.
After the establishment of the Republic of China in 1912, the office building had been used for several different purposes, from Kinmen County Government, Defense Headquarter, Fujian Provincial Government and Kinmen Political Committee during the Taiwan Strait Crisis. In 1995, the Kinmen County Police Department and Tentative County Assembly were relocated to other place.
The building is a four-section house with three courtyards in between. The front courtyard spans over a wide area with a Leafy Banyan trees. At the back lies the centuries-old ceiba tree.

Originally known as Houpu, Jincheng is Kinmen's political and economic center, and the most prosperous area in modern-day Kinmen. Other than historical sites, many prominent establishments and stores are located here. Walking is in fact the best way to tour Jincheng. Kinmen Military Headquarters of Qing Dynasty, the Chastity Arch for Qiu Liang-Gong's Mother, and Wujian Academy are historical sites worthy of a slow-paced visit. Model Street not only features old architectures but also new creative stores. Houpu 16 Arts Zone is where young artists are given a platform to express their talent. And of course, you must not miss out on the traditional snacks like oyster fritter, baked egg roll, Cantonese congee, and savory rice cake. Come find out why Houpu is voted top ten tourist town in Taiwan!

This is probably the cheapest hotel in Jincheng, the biggest city on Taiwan's Kinmen Island. Hotels are not cheap here. I got this room for 750 Taiwan Dollars, or around $25.

Kinmen,Taiwan???????? The Island of Taiwan Closest to China (4K HDR)
Kinmen (金門), also known as Quemoy, is a group of islands under the administration of the Republic of China (Taiwan), situated just 10 km (6.2 mi) east of Xiamen, Fujian, in the People's Republic of China (PRC), across Xiamen Bay. The county includes the main island of Kinmen and several smaller islets, as well as the more distant Wuqiu Township. Kinmen's strategic location has made it a focal point in Cross-Strait relations, experiencing numerous military confrontations, particularly during the Second Taiwan Strait Crisis in 1958.
Historically, Kinmen has been inhabited for thousands of years, with significant settlement and development during the Ming dynasty. It served as a base for Koxinga in his campaign against the Dutch in Taiwan. The island has changed hands several times, most notably being occupied by Japan during the Second Sino-Japanese War before returning to ROC control after World War II. Despite military tensions, travel restrictions between Kinmen and Taiwan were lifted in 1994, and a direct ferry route to Xiamen was established in 2001, symbolizing a step towards closer Cross-Strait relations.
The name Kinmen (金門) translates to Golden Gate, reflecting its historical significance and strategic importance. The island is known for its military history, including the Battle of Guningtou, and has become a symbol of the complex relationship between Taiwan and the PRC. Despite its contentious past, Kinmen has developed into a vibrant community, with a focus on tourism and economic development, benefiting from its unique position as a gateway between Taiwan and mainland China.

{Trip} Taiwan Travel -- KINMEN Trip Day 1 / 金門之旅
Quick look at what we did in Kinmen on our recent trip. We started in Taipei, took the plane from Songshan Airport and arrived in Kinmen an hour later. We rented two motor scooters, rode to Kincheng to have lunch and further on to Nanshan to check in at our guesthouse. From there we visited Shuangli Lake, the Kuningtou War Museum, and the Loudspeaker Wall at Beishan. Then we rode to Lake Ci and finally watched the sunset at Jiangong Islet. Was a great first day!

「 見學旅工計Taiwan Travel Worker」為RTM泛旅遊發起之文化蹲點行動，透過台灣青年＋國際青年，一同參與在地社區的生活體驗。
不同於踩線團及打工換宿，見學旅工計畫希望參與者成為為在地創造價值的人，而不只是因在地而改變自身想法；透過深入台灣在地，更能以體會台灣在地情懷及文化多元性，並藉由參與者學習投入、自我專長、社群推廣，替自身與社區共創新的價值及風貌 。
“Travel Worker” is a brand new program created by RTM (Redefine Tourism Mixer), a Non-Profit Organization that’s dedicated to bringing young talents and new ideas to the corner of Taiwan.

Taiwan Episode 10 - Seeing China from Taiwan
This episode is the last one of the arch we started with episode 8 (episode 8 9 & 10 should have been only one episode but I realized while editing it was totally impossible).
We are more talkative in this one and after some more wandering in the city we are exploring an old military base in Jiangongyu islet with an improbable yet incredible view over China cityscape in the horizon, looking even more magical with the sunset.
This was the day of our arrival in Kinmen and we already realized this experience was going to be beyond our expectations.
