Ixtapa is a Pacific Coast beach resort in the Mexican state of Guerrero. Curving El Palmar Beach is lined with high-rise hotels, bars and restaurants. The granite rocks of Los Morros de Potosí are a popular dive site, while the Delfiniti dolphinarium offers the chance to swim with dolphins. We found it to be a lot more accessible than the other Mexico Resort Towns as everything is pretty much in one spot along La Costera, the Hotel Zone. Isla Ixtapa Zihuatanejo (THE BEST DAY TRIP!)
If you’re in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo Mexico and looking for things to do in Ixtapa or things to do in Zihuatanejo you could take a day trip to Isla Ixtapa!
Isla Ixtapa is an island located off of Playa Linda on the western side of Ixtapa. Isla Ixtapa is only about a 5 minute, 80 peso boat ride from the pier. Once you are on Isla Ixtapa you have your choice between 3 beaches, Playa Varadero, Playa Coral and Playa Cuachalalate. Playa Coral is the best for snorkeling, and the other two are great for relaxing on the beach. There are many restaurants such as Lili Cipriani where we spent our day!

We also take a boat around the bay and explore the central area of town. The two hotels we stayed at while in Zihuatanejo were Hotel Irma and The Hotel Mexicana. Zihuatanejo was established as a fishing village popularized by The Shawshank Redemption but now a days it's considered one of Mexicos finest beach towns. Food Guide in Ixtapa & Zihuatanejo
Fresh. Local. Authentic. This sums up the food in these too seaside towns. Obviously, a focus is on fresh seafood--so many different fish varieties are available--all with a Mexican twist. I found the food to be much lighter than in other areas of Mexico--we are on the beach after all! And of course, the fresh local fruits were delicious. Don't forget the drinks! Margaritas are especially good at the Capella Resort bar, as well as mezcal over at Angustina.
Breakfast at Sabores y Colores and vegan treats at Mito were both great ways to start the day. Lunch at the beach was delightful at the open air La Perla and my favorite dinner was on the sand at La Marea, the beachfront dining at the Viceroy Zihuatanejo
Ixtapa & Zihuatanejo: Two Mexican Beach Paradises
Mexico has so much coastline, it is no wonder it is world famous for its beaches. But I didn't realize how charming some of these beach towns could be until I traveled there this past March. I took my mom, whom had never been to Mexico, and she and I explored the sleepy streets of the fishing village of Zihuatanejo (or Zihua). We shopped for shoes in little markets, ate lunch at a vegan cafe, strolled along the dock for a majestic view of the harbor and dined at mezcal focused restaurant along the beach walk. We even ate a torchlit dinner on the sand at Viceroy Zihuatanejo and took a sunset cruise to admire the Pacific waters and stunning coastline.
But we stayed in Ixtapa, at the breathtaking Capella Resort Ixtapa, where we could admire the ocean from our private infinity pool, the terrace bar, their open air restaurants or even from our luxurious bed. We also took a boat to Isla Ixtapa for snorkeling and beachtime. There's so much more to say about these amazing Mexican paradises but watch the video and then just GO.
