Travel during a pandemic: the city of Zheleznovodsk
Six months ago, about 10 thousand cases were registered in Russia every day. At that time, not only were flights canceled, but it was also forbidden to drive a car without a pass. I stayed at home apart from short trips to nearby shops. If someone told me in those times that I will be traveling around the country at the end of the year, when every day, more than 25 thousand cases will be registered in Russia, I probably would not have believed it.
In December, I decided to attend the conference held in the city of Zheleznovodsk during the pandemic.
Zheleznovodsk is a small resort town in the North Caucasus, which has always been very popular with Soviet citizens.
The town's name means iron-water-place, as the mineral waters springing from the earth in Zheleznovodsk were considered to have high iron content.
Zheleznovodsk, along with Pyatigorsk, Kislovodsk, Yessentuki, and Mineralnye Vody, is a part of the Caucasus Mineral Waters, a famous Russian spa resort. The town economy rotates around sanatoria, where dozens of thousands of people from all over Russia and former Soviet republics come year-round to rest and prevent and treat stomach, kidney, and liver diseases.
Judging by the abandoned houses on the outskirts of the city, the population of Zheleznovodsk in the past was much higher. Nevertheless, the central part of the town is well-groomed. I was surprised at the considerable number of tourists in the city for December.
I visited the city's mineral water springs, walked along the terrenkur and the town's streets.

Having spent over a week in a village in the countryside of Belarus, I embarked on my solo travel from Minsk, the capital city, up to the Northeast corner of Belarus. On today’s journey, I took a small van all the way back to Minsk, bought a ticket using the Russian language and caught a high-speed train towards the countryside.
Operated by Belarusian Railways, trains in Belarus are reliable, comfortable and affordable. The train network allows passengers to travel to various countries in Europe, including Russia and Ukraine. Learning how to decode train symbols by referring to online sources will save you time and money.

По разнообразию природы Тыва, пожалуй, не знает себе равных. Здесь, на небольшой территории, можно увидеть практически все типы земных ландшафтов. Пустыни и степи, таежные леса и тундры – во всех этих зонах можно побывать проехав всего сто километров. Такие уникальные природные условия связаны с местоположением и рельефом Тывы. Республика находится в самом центре Азии. Со всех сторон ее защищают горы, только с юга она открыта степям и пустыням Монголии. Две горных системы, вытянутых в широтном направлении, пересекают Тыву – на севере Западный Саян, на юге – Танну-ола. Между ними находится тувинская котловина, родина большинства кочевников Тывы.

Каждая имеет свое геологическое строение, особенности рельефа, а значит, и особые природные условия, определяющие его своеобразие.
Западно-Сибирская равнина расположена в северной части Азии, к востоку от Уральских гор. Протяженность с севера на юг 2500 км, с запада на восток до 2000 км. Площадь около 3 млн кв. км.
Западная Сибирь — это тысячи километров равнинной, покрытой лесом земли, пересеченной могучими плавными реками. Сложенная осадочными породами палеозоя, равнина является основным источником нефти и газа в России.
Экономический успех человека часто пагубно влияет на дикую природу. А некоторые виды находятся на грани исчезновения.
В конце лета группа орнитологов привезла в низовья реки Оби несколько крупных красивых птиц. Это белый журавль - стерх. Сейчас во всей Западной Сибири в дикой природе осталось всего около двадцати этих птиц. Ученые работают над восстановлением этой популяции.
