Le Pont Weygand in Sassandra, Ivory Coast
On the axis leading to the village of Gaoulou, this arch bridge was built around 1940. Its name,
comes from that of General Weygand, a colonial administrator.
In the colonial era, the economy of southwestern Ivory Coast was prosperous and the productions
agricultural and natural resources were important. To export them in conditions
irreproachable, it was necessary to improve the roads which in many cases were at the last
degree of wear. They no longer met the requirements of rapid, safe and
expensive because of increased traffic.
Built around 1940, the curvilinear bridge of General Weygand is the first concrete bridge
from West Africa. It is placed on the rocks that dot the stream and spans the
Sassandra river on the island of Gaoulou. Located 15 km from Sassandra towards
Lakota this bridge is an expression of the will of the colonizer to endow Cote d'Ivoire with
modern means of transport.

Hiii! I took a trip to Abidjan west Africa and it was a very interesting trip! Lots of stops but when I arrived it was amazing. I had the greatest time and met so many people for the first time in a long time. Hope this vlog was interesting to watch I will be posting more videos of my trip there, unfortunately it is not as organized as I would like although I will still post my experience as best as I can.
