Road tunnel through Adelaide Hills What are the alternatives ?
This video suggests a road tunnel from Verdun to Darlington would remove the congestion and dangers of the existing South East Freeway. It would join up with the North - South Tunnels that are currently in the final planning stage.
We examine some of the earlier proposals for rail and road transport through the Adelaide Hills. The Short North Route from Verdun to Hope Valley and the Short South Route from Verdun to Darlington are studied.
Finally we look at the Laerdal Tunnel in Norway. This road tunnel is the same length as the distance for a direct tunnel from Verdun to Darlington. It is noted that the road in the tunnel is not horizontal, rather it has has a gradient of 2.1% to the middle of the tunnel then a 2.7% descent to the exit.

Discovering Wine Country Welcome to Season 1
When you pour a glass of wine and stick your nose in the glass, you don't just smell grapes. The aromas and flavors in that glass give you its story. The story of that variety of grape, be it white or red, thick or thin skinned, tart or sweet.
What you smell and taste in the glass tells you about the climate, are we in a warm climate pulling up sugars and rich, ripe fruit notes, or are we in a cool climate, where the aromatics are bright with florals and stone fruits, the alcohol is a little lower and the flavors are more nuanced and delicate.
The regions soils and other vegetation can affect the grapes, allowing them more or less water and nutrients. The wind might be strong which can thicken the skins to protect the berries, giving an increased depth of flavor and color to the wine.
The weather of a vintage can affect the wine. Rain when the vines are blooming, can decrease the harvest. Rain at harvest might force a vigneron to harvest early, making the grapes not as ripe and more tart, or if they harvest after the rain it can sometimes dilute the flavors.
Yeasts for fermentation can change the aromas and flavors, these might be chosen specifically by the winemaker, or they might be from the indigenous yeasts in the area, which can be almost like a fingerprint of a place.
Then there are the people who influence the the wine. Perhaps it is a regional style or just a winemakers preference. Choosing when to harvest, how to crush the grapes (with stems or without) and so many other choices in the winery can influence what you taste in the glass.
We will dive down some rabbit holes, focusing on different grape varieties, how wines age, agriculture methods like biodynamics and regenerative agriculture. We will explore the conversation on corks vs. screwcaps to discover why some why makers are choosing these closures and what benefits they might have.
These are the stories.
We've all heard the stories of what grows together, goes together. We will explore the local ingredients and restaurants, and take in the local scenery, feeling the air, smelling the place, it all meshes together.

The famous K-Med is at it again, this time taking us back to Adelaide for a ride on a Comeng railcar to the original Tonsley station.
An old Red Hen railcar set is chased out of Adelaide station before we turn south and on towards Tonsley.
Originally opening in 1966 to serve the, now closed, Chrysler plant at Clovelly Park, it has managed to survive a few rumours of closure over the years, and has now been extended to the Flinders Medical Centre.
The Tonsley station seen here is now obliterated, with a new one situated near the former Clovelly Park station site. Clovelly Park station itself has also been eradicated.
An Adelaide scene that is no more.
Even a few local weirdos thrown in for some variety.

Dashcam drive to Salisbury
We landed at Heathrow Airport in London England, rented a Vauxhall Insignia CDTi sedan to drive to the Grasmere House Hotel in Salisbury.
Vauxhall Insignia CDTi sedan was roomy enough to fit 4 people and all our luggage; seemed to get good mileage from its 2L diesel engine.
At bit of an odd feeling with the steering wheel on the other right-hand side of the car, and driving on the right-hand side of the road. After a few days of it you get use to it.
Afghan Girls Soccer - Sydney United
My name is Shokofa Hassani and I am the captain of the Sydney United Afghan Girls Soccer team. There are 19 girls who are currently in the team. The majority of us come from refugee backgrounds. Normally, not many girls in the Afghan Hazara community are engaged in sporting activities. Soccer is a great way of not only keeping the girls active but also changing the attitude of the community towards women and girls playing sports. We hope to encourage more girls in the community to develop their skills, gain confidence, and make new friends.
