The Php 4 Billion Cagayan De Oro Coastal Road // The Northern Mindanao Coastal Highway
Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar opened the Cagayan de Oro Coastal Road, a project which has started in 1997 on November 10.
“The Construction of the 12.77 KM Cagayan de Oro Coastal Road will serve as a bypass road starting from Brgy. Gusa in the eastern side all the way to the western side in Brgy. Igpit, Opol in Misamis Oriental, thus connecting six (6) barangays in the city and two (2) barangays in Opol,” Villar noted.
“The project will reduce travel time from Laguindingan Airport to city proper to 20 minutes,” he added.
The CDO Coastal Road has been suspended prior due to unresolved RROW issues. The Lapasan section has been negotiated and demolished on August 25.
“The 4B project is expected to ease access in the Eastern Side of Macajalar Bay in CDO, Gingoog in Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, and CARAGA,” Villar said.
“The project is expected to reduce travel cost by 30 percent within the region,” he added.
While the Gusa-Agora Section of the Coastal Road will be opened this November, the construction of the Agora-PPA-Corrales section is still on going.
This 2017, two projects are still ongoing in the eastern side in Lapasan and another in Puntod section. (DPWH)

Good day guys,
This is my first hike for the year 2022, last February 13. As you can see we hiked Mt. Pinagbanderahan also known as Mt. Mirador located in the Atimonan side of the Quezon National Forest Park in the province of Quezon.
Its difficulties was categorized 1/10 and the trekking was almost 2hrs, they also required you guys to have a tour guide with a fee of 300 pesos per group.
This video have lots of fun facts about the culture and history of the mountain.

OPOL DEVELOPMENT UPDATE WALKING TOUR | OPOL MISAMIS ORIENTAL, PHILIPPINES
The Municipality of Opol was once an uninhabited wilderness during the pre-Spanish time, until one group of Boholanons led by a datu, migrated to the place. They settled in the area now known as Barangay Bonbon, where they planted different types of crops for their livelihood. One of the widely cultivated and most abundant crops was the white squash or “opo”. The inhabitants from the nearby village came to the area to buy the famous “opo”, until the place became popularly known as “opo”. Due to the slip of the tongue, most of the inhabitants began referring to the place as “opol”. Thus, from then on, the place has been called “Opol”
The Municipality of Opol has existing tourist establishments, namely: the Crocodile and Ostrich Farm in Malanang, the only Apple Beach Resort and Hotel, Roan Beach Resort, Marvilla Beach Resort, Ajis Water Sports and 8 more beach resorts situated along the shore of Taboc, Opol facing the Macajalar Bay. A variety of water sports activities ranging from Banana Boat Rides, Jetski Rides, and skimboarding along the long stretch of the Opol beach can also be seen.
There are also three existing Seafood Restaurants in Opol situated along the seashore of Poblacion. Dining in the said restaurants can be a pleasant avenue for watching the panoramic view of the Macajalar Bay and viewing the famous island of Camiguin and viewing up the green forest of Malasag, Cagayan de Oro City.
The potential tourist spots for development are the caves in Barangay Awang and Bagocboc. Another potential destination is the Abaga waterfalls in Malanang, it has an area of two hectares and fit for swimming, mountain biking and adventure. The Indigenous People in the six hinterland barangays can also be a potential for cultural tourism. Moreover, the Lumads wedding ceremonies are being practiced by our brother Lumads in the municipality. The cultural dances and Lumads’ musical instruments are still preserved in the six IP communities in Opol. The Lumads’ traditional ceremonies before planting and harvesting seasons still exist.

An annual town fiesta festivity celebrated every September in collaboration and partnership with the various stakeholders and our local community .

An annual celebration promoting long-stretch of beach area as a budding tourism industry.
Economic Structure
Opol, which was dominantly an agricultural-based community twenty (20) years ago, is currently emerging as one of the non-agriculture-based or urbanizing areas in the Province of Misamis Oriental.
One of the contributing factors to this shift from purely agricultural to non-agricultural is its proximity to the highly urbanized center of Cagayan de Oro City where low-lying agricultural lands were converted into urban uses, including those agricultural lands located at the fringes of the zoned urban areas to provide opportunities for investors to locate their industries within the municipality, where land, infrastructure utilities, goods and services are readily available and accessible at a cheaper cost.
The presence of commerce and trade activities in the municipality had increase in a significant number which had contributed to a steady growth of the economic development of the municipality. Presently, there are 747 establishments that provide wholesaling and retailing services. There are four public markets in the municipality of Opol, one in Taboc (main market), one in Luyong Bonbon, one in Igpit and one in Barra. Small and medium sized enterprises are sprouting along the areas in coastal barangays including in the mid-land areas.
Commercial
The area used for commercial purposes totaled to 13.08 hectares or equivalent to 0.0669 % of the total land area of Opol. The centers of commerce are the barangays of Barra, Igpit ,and Poblacion with also a few in Taboc, Bonbon, and Luyong Bonbon. The commercial activities continue to grow especially in Barra and Igpit due to the opening of a new national highway which directly links the barangay to the westbound terminal and fish and vegetables landing area of barangay Bulua of Cagayan de Oro City. Other commercial establishments comprise of fuel stations, beaches, automotive shops, refreshment and the like are also sprouting in the areas along the national highway and along the seashore.
