A hill station and former resort for the British Raj elite, it's surrounded by rolling hills dotted with tea plantations established in the late 19th century. Eravikulam National Park, a habitat for the endangered mountain goat Nilgiri tahr, is home to the Lakkam Waterfalls, hiking trails and 2,695m-tall Anamudi Peak.

Idukki is one of the most beautiful place in South India, This video is covering some beautiful places in idukki you must visit other than the usual Munnar, Thekkady and Vagamon. We went to Chathurangapara then to Amapara and nearby Flight view point in Ramakkalmedu. We stayed in a homestay at Ramakkalmedu and trekked to Ramakkalmedu peak. Then we visited Kuravan Kurathy statue at Ramakkalmedu before we start to the Anchuruli tunnel. After visiting Anchuruli tunnel we visited Calvary mount view point near idukki dam then on the way back we got ticket to do Idukki dam boating.

IDUKKI DAM KERALA | Best Tourist Places in Kerala | LimeTrails
Limetrails was recently in Kerala. While navigating from Thekkady to Munnar, I spotted a large water body en-route. On closer look it was a place called Idukki, not one of the regular tourist places in kerala. Since this reservoir appeared way bigger than the Periyar lake, we decided to take a de-tour and explore this not so touristy area in Kerala. We reached a small town called Cheruthoni on the banks of the Cheruthoni river and decided to take a night halt as entry to the Idukki reservoir was closed for the day. The next morning after a massive breakfast at a local restaurant, we headed towards Idukki reservoir. And boy were we in for a surprise! Watch the video to discover this magnificent yet relatively lesser known region of Kerala. We share stunning visuals of this spectacular reservoir and the glorious landscapes of Idukki.
So all travelers planning a trip to Kerala should definitely watch this video right till the end and include a day visit to Idukki in your Kerala Tour.

Idukki district is a densely forested, mountainous region in the south Indian state of Kerala. In the north, Anamudi mountain towers over Eravikulam National Park, where the rare, blue Neelakurinji flower blooms every 12 years. Nearby, Munnar is a hill station known for its sprawling tea plantations and Tea Museum. Farther south is the vast, curved Idukki Dam and Periyar National Park, a tiger and elephant reserve.

Vattavada is a village in Idukki district in the state of Kerala, India. The mean maximum daily temperature is at its lowest during the monsoon months with the highest temperature being 19 C. Vattavada is known as the market of Kerala, because they are in front of vegetable producing. Most of the native flora and fauna of Vattavada have disappeared due to severe habitat fragmentation resultant from the creation of the plantations. However, some species continue to survive and thrive in several protected areas nearby, including the new Kurinjimala Sanctuary to the east, the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, Manjampatti Valley and the Amaravati reserve forest of Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary to the north east, the Eravikulam National Park and Anamudi Shola National Park to the north, the Pampadum Shola National Park to the south and the proposed Palani Hills National Park to the east.

Idukki is one of the 14 districts of Kerala state, India,[1] created on 26 January 1972. At that time, the district headquarters was at Kottayam. In June 1976 it was moved to Painavu. Idukki lies in the Western Ghats of Kerala. Idukki is the second-largest district in the area but has the lowest population density. Idukki has a vast forest reserve area; more than half of the district is covered by forests. The urban areas are densely populated whereas villages are sparsely populated. Idukki is also known as the spice garden of Kerala.

Idukki district is a densely forested, mountainous region in the south Indian state of Kerala. In the north, Anamudi mountain towers over Eravikulam National Park, where the rare, blue Neelakurinji flower blooms every 12 years. Nearby, Munnar is a hill station known for its sprawling tea plantations and Tea Museum. Farther south is the vast, curved Idukki Dam and Periyar National Park, a tiger and elephant reserve.

Top 10 Places | Thekkady | south india tourism
Thekkady is located about 257 km (160 mi) from Trivandrum, 114 km from Madurai City and Madurai Airport, 145 km from Cochin International Airport and 114 km from Kottayam railway station. Thekkady is located near to Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. The sanctuary is famous for its dense evergreen, semi-evergreen, moist deciduous forests and savanna grass lands. It is home to herds of elephants, sambar, tigers, gaur, lion-tailed macaques and Nilgiri langurs.
The Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is spread across 777 km2 (300 sq mi), of which 360 km2 (140 sq mi) is thick evergreen forest. The wildlife sanctuary was declared a tiger reserve in 1978. The splendid artificial lake formed by the Mullaperiyar Dam across the Periyar River adds to the charm of the park. The greatest attractions of Periyar are the herds of wild elephants, deer and bison that come down to drink in the lake. The sanctuary can be accessed through a trekking, boating or jeep safari.

Thekkady is considered a haven for natural spices such as black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, nutmace, ginger, and clove.
