Visiting the Temple of Horus at Edfu, Egypt
Hello and welcome to Traveling with Luigi!
In this episode my wife and I will visit the temple of Horus at Edfu. Join us in this fascinating trip to discover one of the best preserved Greco-Roman sites in Egypt.
Learn about the mammisi, a small chapel in front of the temple associated with the birth of Harsomtus, the son of Horus and Hathor (the cow goddess); then join us as we explore the main courtyard, the hypostyle hall, the sanctuary and some of the rooms. Walk the spiraling circular path for the stairway simulating the ascend of a falcon (Horus), used in the new year rituals! Take a look at probably one of the most ancient recipes for perfume engraved in walls! yes! they used perfumes to purify the temple and the statues, and much more.
It was a fantastic visit, that we are not soon to forget, we encourage you to visit in person, you will not regret it. Thank you for watching this episode and Happy travels!

WHAT EGYPT is REALLY LIKE - INSIDE the TEMPLE of EDFU #travelvlog
We are in Edfu Egypt, a city about two hours north of Aswan along the Nile River. In this city, we get a sense of what Egypt is really like outside of Cairo and Luxor. We take a horse carriage ride through the city street markets. We visit the Edfu Temple, built between 237 and 57 BC. Edfu Temple is one of the best-preserved ancient sights in Egypt.
During our visit, the temple is nearly empty, leaving us as the sole group to explore its many mysterious corridors, dead ends, hypostyle halls, and passageways. It feels as if it is lost in time....
The temple is dedicated to Horus, the Sky God represented in falcon form, son of Isis and Osiris. He avenged Seth in a battle and became the protector of his land. His one eye Eye of Horus has come to represent protection and is a famous symbol of ancient Egypt.
We explore the legends of this temple. With its roof intact, it is also one of the most atmospheric of ancient buildings.
We also go shopping in the local Egyptian market for a traditional galabeya and learn how to bargain the Egyptian way.
