MUST SEE SIGHTs of CHINA for your FIRST VISIT! (Top 10)

These are my TOP 10 MUST SEE SIGHTS and HIDDEN GEMS that we saw during our 5 weeks in China. From busy cities to cute hipster towns. Natural wonders to man made gems. China really has everything need to make it your next favourite travel destination: this is your China travel inspiration!

In this video, we look at the best places to visit and some of the most useful China travel advice for your first visit: including train travel, how to access the internet through a VPN and how to deal with culture shock.

EVERY PLACE FEATURED IN THE VIDEO (in alphabetical order).

BEST VPN FOR CHINA: To access any western social media platforms in China, you're going to need a VPN. Ivacy offers a great VPN for a very affordable price (ad):

APPS TO DOWNLOAD
I should really have mentioned this in the video. Before your trip, make sure you download WeChat (it's free) for scanning things in shops and restaurants for translation. Didi is also a good one, it's the Chinese Uber!

BEIJING
The capital of China is a big, busy city but it's little hutongs are a lot of fun to explore. The Summer Palace and the Forbidden City are both really worth seeing as well.

CHAKA SALT LAKE -
A lesser visited gem, located about 4 hours away from the city of Xining in Qinghai province. Famous for it's mirror-like reflections of the sky.

CULTURE SHOCK
I received a lot of comments saying that people had some reservations and fears about visiting China. To be honest, I felt the same way before I went.

DALI -
An ancient city in Yunnan province that has a little bit of everything that I love! There's nature on the shores of Erhai Lake and up in the heights of Canshan Mountain. The stunning Three Pagodas temple and the bustling culture of the ancient city.

GREAT WALL OF CHINA -
Requires no introduction. But I really recommend exploring the wilder and more remote areas of the wall, rather than the touristy sections. In this film I looked at 3 different areas and compared the strengths and weaknesses of each.

HONG KONG -
A giant, sprawling city. Which also has some amazing natural spots like Lantau Island and Kowloon Park, That's what I focussed on in my travel film.

KUNMING -
Kunming has a reputation for being a transport hub, but it's actually a really fun city to spend a few days. The Dragon Gate and Green Lake Park are particularly great and are the main focus of my travel guide linked above.

LIJIANG OLD TOWN -
A beautiful ancient town with stunning maze like streets. It rained most of the time we were there, so I went searching for the little hidden gems of the streets.

RAINBOW MOUNTAINS -
This was the best day that I had in China. Away from the Danxia Landform Geopark is a peaceful national park that is so worth exploring. It feels more like Australia or the US than China.

SHANGHAI -
The last stop that we had in China. You can get some amazing views from the World Financial Centre Viewpoint.

TRAIN TRAVEL IN CHINA
The main way we got around China. We booked everything through China Highlights, which made thinks very easy (not sponsored, just good):

VPN (virtual private network)
You need a VPN to access almost every western social media accounts in China. For an affordable, but good VPN use Ivacy (ad):

XIAN -
I spent 24 hours exploring Xian and it definitely wasn't enough time. The Terracotta Warriors are amazing, but my film focusses on the other gems of the city.

XINGPING -
Home to the best view in China: Laozhai Mountain.

YANGSHUO -
Beautiful karst mountains, rivers and hiking. My video guide features everything we did there and it's a pretty extensive list! Including instructions on how to get to the best viewpoint in the area.

In this Chinese Street Food tour video, I'm going to take you on a food street journey to many delicious, mouthwatering street food places around Beijing, AKA Peking, in Northern China. If you're thinking about traveling to China for the street food, make sure to come visit Beijing. You can enjoy unique Chinese street foods hidden in Beijing's Hutong Alleyways and try some classic Chinese cuisine favorites like Peking duck AKA Beijing duck, Jian bing ( 煎饼) AKA Chinese crepes, and a ton of other hidden specialties.
In the past 3 years, I've shot and eaten street food around China, including locations like Chengdu, Lanzhou, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Beijing, Wuhan, Leshan, Shanghai, and Xinjiang's Silk Road. So far, the street food in each of these locations has been the best street food around the world!

Chinese cuisine is so fantastic, it would really take a lifetime to eat all of it. I consider myself super lucky and fortunate to be able to live in Chengdu, Sichuan, China, eating Sichuan food and sampling food across the whole country whenever I get the chance. I've decided to stay living in China for another year or two or even more, shooting delicious street food in china for you and across asia as well!

Here are the addresses and locations and restaurant names for the Chinese street food I had in this Beijing travel video. Most locations were deep in Beijing's Hutong alleyways!

1) Famous beijing breakfast Jianbing - AKA Chinese Crepe
北京市东城区大兴胡同内。
2) Delicious Sesame butter porridge made from millet AKA Miancha:
北京市东城区南大兴胡同7号
3) Very stinky Douzhi fermented green bean porridge (even stinkier than stinky tofu!)
北京市东城区天坛北门对面老磁器口豆汁店
4) Organ soup and specialty Beijing zhajiang noodles AKA Zhajiangmian!
北京市东城区东四北大街141号老北京百年卤煮店
5) Beijing Duck / Peking duck!
.北京市东城区北新桥头条55号花家怡园

Hutong is a type of folk culture in Beijing, China. Especially the brick carvings and wood carvings in Hutongs are telling the cleverness and craftsmanship of craftsman. If you can spend some time in those alleys and explore the life there, you would find out the essence of Beijing folk culture.

Previously, there was no machine to carve on the bricks. And it was difficult and time-consuming for people to carve it. The clay for this type of carving needs to be placed for years. After firing and polishing, craftsman will carve the patterns on the brick.
It is so admirable that frame made previously won’t deform after hundreds of years.

Top 10 Travel Destinations in Beijing - China

Beijing is the capital of the most populous country in the world, the People's Republic of China. With a population of 21.5 million people, it is the nation's second-largest city after Shanghai. It was also the seat of the Ming and Qing dynasty emperors until the formation of a republic in 1911.

Beijing literally means Northern Capital, a role it has played many times in China's long history. Beijing's history dates back several thousand years but it first became notable in Chinese history after it was made the capital of the State of Yan under the name Yanjing. Yan was one of the major kingdoms of the Warring States Period, some 2,000 years ago. After the fall of Yan, during the later Han and Tang dynasties, the Beijing-area was a major prefecture of northern China.

Move over, Haussmann and l'Enfant. Beijing's urban planner beat you by a couple of centuries. His name is Kublai Khan. Here, you'll find a wealth of history, both ancient (the Hall of Preserving Harmony, Summer Palace, Forbidden City) and more recent (Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, Tiananmen Square). For the best market experience, choose the Dirt Market over the touristy Silk Market.

We were wrong about Beijing... We expected a super interesting but massive, smoggy and overly crowded capital. What we did NOT expect (or even ever hear about before we left!) are its charming hutong; mazes of timeless, narrow lanes that will make you feel like you've found the real, quirky Chinese heart of the city. There's no better way of exploring Beijing before we hunt down the best Peking duck in town. Ready for a Beijing hutong tour?

However, the establishments not featured on these 2 videos doesn’t mean they have no quality, please understand I picked them at random with no prior arrangements with any of the stall owners. If by any chance these 2 videos attract good viewership, I shall return to do the 3rd installation. Meanwhile just enjoy watching these 2 episodes first. Remember to go out and support the local street food, be it in Hutong or otherwise. Thanks, and see you in the next video.
