About Dongguan

Fondly nicknamed “the world’s factory,” Dongguan was once a manufacturing boomtown consisting of a patchwork of townships. To diversify its traditional, labor-based economy with modern information and service economy sectors, the city of Dongguan is envisioning a new unifying urban center.

Dongguan, an industrial city in China’s Pearl River Delta, encompasses a densely populated urban center and surrounding prefecture. Green spaces include the central Qifeng Park, Keyuan Garden featuring local architecture, and the mountainous Yinxian Resort with a Buddhist temple and statues. In the port town of Humen, with its striking suspension bridge, the Opium War Museum explores the 19th-century Opium Wars.

Dongguan, located in the mid-south of Guangdong Province and in the east of the Pearl River Delta, is 50 kilometers (about 31 miles) south of Guangzhou, and 90 kilometers (about 56 miles) north of Shenzhen.

It is 47 nautical miles from Hong Kong as well as 48 nautical miles from Macau. Due to the superior location and reform and opening up, Dongguan is known as the workshop of the world with more than 151,000 industrial enterprises and the number of Fortune Global 500 is up to 31 including Samsung, Wal-Mart. Nikon.

However, since 2010, Dongguan has been transforming from a labor-intensive city into a high-tech electronic innovator under the impact of the international financial crisis. Dongguan is also the third largest foreign trade city in China and an important transportation hub in Guangdong Province.

In 2019, it became a member city of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. As one of the birthplaces of Lingnan Culture, Dongguan has folk customs such as the Dragon Boat Race, Cantonese Opera, Hakka folk songs and Lion Dance.

Yibin is located in the southeast portion of Sichuan at the southern end of the Sichuan Basin, bordering Zhaotong (Yunnan) to the south, Luzhou to the east, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture and Leshan to the west, and Zigong to the north, and has a total area is 13,283 square kilometres (5,129 sq mi). The city ranges in latitude from 27° 50'−29° 16' N, and in longitude from 103° 36'−105° 20' E, stretching 153 km (95 mi) east-west and 150 km (93 mi) north-south.
There are several hot springs near Yibin, plus many other tourist attractions. Such attractions include the Bamboo Sea in Changning County and the Xingwen Stone Forest. Cuiping mountain in the centre of the city provides wonderful views of Yibin. Yibin is also the confluence of the Min and Jinsha Rivers, which together form the Yangtze River.
The most significant scenic resource is Mountain Park(dashangongyuan,大山公园), which stretches for hundreds of kilometers.

Deep into the mysterious West Hunan Province of central China, Aizhai Suspension Bridge is an outstanding modern structure and the most important project on the Jishou to Chadong expressway (part of Changsha to Chongqing expressway passage) to improve the traffic and optimize the transport system between Hunan and Chongqing. After its completion in 2012, Aizhai Bridge becomes the highest tunnel to tunnel bridge in the world and the fourth suspension bridge in China, with a height of 355 meters (1,165 feet) above the Dehang Canyon.

Guangdong road trip - From Shaoguan to Yingde

Our trip continued and after Shaoguan we went to Yingde, small village not to far. The first night in Yingde was terrible as our little thing didn't feel well. Surprisingly in the morning he was feeling fine and the day went well.
We moved to another unknown village the same day and we spent the night in a tent, in a very nice camping called Pu Camp. The morning after we moved to another hotel not too far where Valya started feeling bad. The day passed with Danny and Andrea roaming around the hotel and Valya resting in the room. As the situation didn't get any better even the day after, our mood was spoilt and we decided to return home one day earlier than our initial plan.

In conclusion, apart from the numerous struggles, we enjoyed the trip and we didn't expect to visit such nice places in our province, Guangdong.
We liked the experience of the road trip in China and many more like this one will follow. Stay tuned.
