Gokak Falls l Electricity generated first time here in India l Karnataka
#Gokak is a taluka headquarters in the Belgaum district of Karnataka state, India. It is located around 70 km from Belgaum at the confluence of two rivers, the Ghataprabha and the Markandeya. The population of the city is according to 2011 census is approximately 150,773. Gokak city has second highest GDP in the district of Belgaum after Belgaum city
Gokak is surrounded on one side by a range of hills, and on the other side by a vast plain of black soil. The river Ghataprabha flows from the north side of the city and cascades down through a cleft of 167 ft, to form Gokak Falls before flowing through the city. Since the colonial era, the a hydroelectric station under the waterfall has been used to power Gokak Mills, one of the largest manufacturers and exporters of yarn in India

1. Godchinamalaki Falls
Situated at a distance of around 20 kilometres, Godchinamalaki falls is a popular tourist destination. It is renowned for its stepwise arrangement that is spanned approx. 100 metres in length, with a step at every 30 metres!
2. Gokak Falls
Renowned as the Karnataka’s Niagara; Gokak falls is located around 6 kilometres from Gokak. The waterfall has a height of around 170 feets. It is also famous for its ‘hanging wooden bridge’, which spans across 210 metres in length and it was built in the year 1907.
3. Yogi Kolla
One of the scenic beauty spots, the Yogi Kolla is a small village located in the foot of Western Ghats. There is a renowned Temple here located in a cave type opening. One has to climb around 800 to 900 steps in order to reach it.
4. Ghataprabha Bird Sanctuary
Spread over an area of 29.78 square kilometres; Ghataprabha bird sanctuary is situated around 20 kilometres away from Gokak. This sanctuary is renowned for migratory birds like European white stork and Demoiselle crane.
5. Mahalingeshwara Temple
Built around 1153 AD, this temple is one of the oldest temples here. It is situated around 7 kilometres away from Gokak. It is built in the later Chalukyan type of architecture.
7. Hidkal Dam
Hidkal dam is located around 25 kilometres from Gokak. It is a water reservoir and a renowned tourist spot as well. Every year, a large number of migratory birds usually flock the water reservoir and it is therefore a well renowned bird watching spot.

This video is 1st video in series of a trip to Karnataka State of India. In this trip we have planned to visit Gokak, Hampi, Badami, Pattadakal. All this is an effort to bring to you unseen offbeat places which is our mission of our Journey Deals channel.
We will leave from my home town, Pune city in Maharashtra state of India. First day we will stay in Gokak. But before check in the hotel, we will go to visit 2 waterfalls after lunch in Gokak. We have not booked any hotel for this trip. We will book hotel stay on the spot as and when we reach on the destinations.
1. Godchinamalaki Falls:

Gokak Falls is 6 km away from Gokak town and gets its name from the Goki trees found in abundance in these areas. It resembles the Niagara Falls due to its features like the fall, shape etc. Here, River Ghataprabha takes a leap of 52 metres over the sand-stone cliff amidst a picturesque gorge of the rugged valley, making a beautiful sight. This place has the credit of generating electricity for the first time in the country in about 1887. A prime attraction of the Gokak Falls is the hanging 200-m-long bridge that lies 14 m above the bedrock. Tourists can also visit monuments on both sides of the rocky gorge which include temples of Goddess Durga, Lord Shanmukha and Lord Mahalingeshwara built in the traditional Chalukyan style of architecture.

#Prabhu swami temple was built-in 18 century
It’s located near catchment area of #hidkal dam. And enjoy the photos presented by me which I took around 6:30pm.
Every year on Ugadi, there will be celebration here with some folk dance , songs etc
People from villages which are nearby #Hidkal dam gather to celebrate Ugadi here in this temple.
This temple will be visible only in summer and winters, in rainy season it will be submerged in backwater of Hidkal Dam. So best time to visit is January to July.
This temple is located around 40km from #Belagavi, and 55km from #Gokak.
Many houses were there along with this temple before
Raja Lakhamagouda dam (hidkal dam)constructions begins, once the dam project started , as many as 4 villages were shifted to some other nearby places by Govt, however this temple was untouched.
