Puebla Travel Guide - Wandering Magnificent Mexico
Puebla is a city in Mexico. It is in the Puebla Valley, surrounded by volcanoes and snow-capped mountains, slightly over 110 kilometers (68 miles) south-east of Mexico City. The city proper in 2005 had a population of 1.5 million people, while the metropolitan area had a population of 2.1 million.
The city of Puebla is the fourth largest city in Mexico with 2.1 million inhabitants and the Capital of the State of Puebla. It was founded on April 16, 1531 as La Puebla de los Ángeles. It was the first city in central Mexico founded by the Spanish conquistadors that was not built upon the ruins of a conquered Amerindian settlement. Its strategic location, between the port of Veracruz and Mexico City, made it the second most important city during the colonial period. During the seventeenth century, Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz lived in the city until her confrontation with the Bishop of Puebla.
The city’s main claim to fame, however, is Cinco de Mayo, a festival commemorating the May 5, 1862 defeat of a French expeditionary army by Mexican general Ignacio Zaragoza. It was after this battle that the name of the city was changed to Heróica Puebla de Zaragoza. The forts where the battle took place are a major tourist attraction.
Traveling within Puebla can sometimes be stressful as the local public transportation system is entirely privatized, leading to hundreds of bus routes, none of which are mapped out. If you know where you are going, you can ask around as to which route will take your destination, but often transfers are necessary for long-distances, which can be confusing, especially if you are not familiar with the language. The general fare rate is $6 MXN. (Safety note about buses: they are generally safe, but they tend to carry pickpockets, especially when crowded. Always have a hand over any bags/backpacks that you have.) The buses generally run from about 7AM to 10PM.
Natural attractions in the state include the Bosque Mesófilos de la Sierra Madre Oriental in the north of the state, Piedras Encimadas Valley, Izta-Popo Zoquiapan National Park, La Malinche National Park, and the Pico de Orizaba National Park. The best known wilderness area is the Izta-Popo National park, which the state shares with neighboring State of Mexico.
The state promotes twelve tourist routes, seven in the city of Puebla and five in the rest of the state. These routes cover the most representative buildings of the history of the state up to modern attractions such as the Africam Safari zoo. The first tourist route in the city of Puebla passes by the Cathedral, the Palafoxiana Library, the Capilla del Rosario, Calle de Santa Clara, Palacio Municipal, Casa de los Muñecos and the Museo Amparo. The second route passes by the Casa del Alfeñique, the Mercado de Artesanias, the Barrio del Artista, the Teatro Principal and the San Francisco Church. The third route contains the Railroad Museum, the Museo y Pinacoteca Ex-Convento de Santa Monica, the Ex-Convento de Santa Rosa, the Museo de la No-Intervencion Fuerte de Guadalupe and the Mercado de Antiguedades. The fourth route contains the San Francisco Acatepec Church, the Santa Maria Tonatzintla Church, the Capilla Real, the Cholula archeological site, the Los Remedios Church and Huejotzingo. The fifth route includes Cuauhtinchan, Tecali and the Africam Safari Zoo.

????????In this video we're heading to Cholula, YES it's the BIGGEST pyramid in the world (in terms of overall size, not height), located close to Puebla in Central Mexico, which itself is just 2 hours on the bus from Mexico City.
If you're looking for places to visit in Mexico or even as a (slightly long) day trip from CDMX, Cholula provides a great opportunity to not only visit this awesome sight but also learn more about Mexican history, Puebla itself, Popcatepetl and Iztaccihuatl volcanoes and more.
On the top of the pyramid (which isn't fully excavated, it looks like a large hill) is a church built by the Spanish in the 1600s. Inside you can marvel at the beautiful interior, chandelier and listen to traditional Mexican music, as well as have an amazing view!
You can also visit the museum and archaeological zone....it's a must do while you're in Mexico!

Ex Convento de San Miguel en Huejotzingo Puebla | Museo de la Evangelización
En 1524 se inició la edificación del ex convento de San Miguel Arcángel, es una construcción del siglo XVI, en cuyo interior se conserva uno de los pocos retablos que quedan de ese siglo. En sus pasillos se encuentran los murales y pinturas que reflejan la historia del lugar, de la evangelización, de la postura de la iglesia y los elementos de cristianización.
Se encuentra en Huejotzingo Puebla, a 29 kilómetros de la ciudad de Puebla.
El atrio es de grandes dimensiones, al centro de este se encuentra la cruz atrial y en sus cuatro esquinas se encuentran las capillas posas que eran usadas para dar catecismo a los indígenas ya que antes no les era permitido entrar a las iglesias; a la izquierda de la iglesia se encuentra lo que antes era la capilla abierta, que tenía la misma función que las capillas posas.
El claustro se encuentra a la derecha de la iglesia, actualmente el claustro es el Museo de la Evangelización inaugurado en junio de 1985 y representa el proceso de evangelización de la zona centro del país.
Este recinto, inaugurado en junio de 1985, ofrece al visitante un acercamiento al proceso de evangelización del centro del país, así como un panorama de los bienes que pertenecieron a este convento franciscano, construido entre 1544 y 1570 por fray Juan de Alameda.
El propio templo bien vale una visita debido a su afortunada mezcla de plateresco y mudéjar. El primer estilo se expresa en el contraste de amplios espacios lisos con reducidas áreas ornamentadas, como es el caso de la fachada lateral, cuya puerta rodea una prolija decoración que evoca hojas y cardos.
El estilo mudéjar se manifiesta sobre todo en la forma conopial del arco de la puerta mayor (como la quilla invertida de un barco vista al corte: arco combado primero y al final apuntado). En el interior destaca el retablo central, uno de los pocos del siglo XVI que se conservan en México, obra del artista flamenco Simón Pereyns.
También resalta el pétreo decorado de la puerta de la sacristía, que forma una malla cuajada de flores. Igualmente notorios son dos emblemas franciscanos: el escudo de las cinco llagas del Señor y el cordón rematado por flecos. Una vez en el atrio de la iglesia conviene detenerse a ver las capillas posa (en las esquinas del gran espacio, donde se iban deteniendo las procesiones), construidas hacia 1550.
La exposición permanente del museo se compone de pilas bautismales, retablos, pinturas, textiles y objetos utilizados en las ceremonias religiosas. De entre las piezas más emblemáticas destaca una célebre pintura al fresco con las figuras de los primeros 12 franciscanos que llegaron a la Nueva España en 1524, encabezados por fray Martín de Valencia.
En cuanto a la región, Huejotzingo es una palabra compuesta por los vocablos nahuas ahuéxotl, ahuejote o sabino, el árbol; tzin, diminutivo, y co, lugar, que en conjunto significan “en el ahuejotito” o “lugar de los pequeños sabinos”. El nombre de esta población está emparentado con el de Huexotla (“donde los ahuejotes”), ya que Huexotzinco es su equivalente diminutivo.
El centro ceremonial y religioso de los huexotzincas se encontraba a las faldas de los volcanes, entre las barrancas, las cuales usaron como fortaleza natural para protegerse de los constantes ataques de sus vecinos.

Ex convento de Huejotzingo en Puebla y recorrido por el pueblo | El Andariego
Después de visitar la ex hacienda de chautla, parto hacia Huejotzingo para conocer uno de los exconventos más antiguos e importantes de America, considerado como patrimonio de la humanidad por la UNESCO.
Tambien conozco un poco sobre la sidra y algunas iglesias de este pueblo.

Elaboración de la Sidra en Huejotzingo Puebla
En este recorrido nos internamos a la Sierra Nevada de Puebla, a las faldas del Iztaccíhuatl para conocer los cultivos del árbol de manzana california o perón rojo con el que se elabora la Sidra famosa del Pueblo de Huejotzingo en Puebla.
El señor Gabriel nos abre las puertas de su local Sidra San Francisco para poder ver el proceso de elaboración de la Sidra, orgullo de Huejotzingo.
